Tired All the Time? Is It Burnout or Something Deeper?

Sribodh Dad explains burnout as a nervous system stuck in survival mode, flooding your body with cortisol and adrenaline until your brain shuts down. He shares how a walk in Taiwan forced his system to reset, then introduces the 3R method: a 7-minute daily practice that interrupts stress patterns and rebuilds capacity.

If you've ever typed into Google, "Why am I so tired all the time?" or "Am I burnt out or just lazy?" this episode's for you. Because what if I told you that you're not burnt out because you're weak, you're burnt out because your nervous system has been in survival mode for longer than your conscious mind has been. You didn't run out of motivation, you ran out of strategy. Burnout isn't a mindset issue. It's a physiology issue. When we say burnout, most people think, "I'm overwhelmed. I'm not focused. I'm procrastinating." But burnout isn't when you stop caring. Burnout is when your body stops believing you're safe enough to keep going. So imagine your body like a laptop with 47 tabs open, fans blasting, battery is in red, your chest pressure, shoulders pulled up, Breathing shallow. Ping, ping, another notification, another demand. Just get through today. Push harder. Don't fall behind. But here's the truth: in burnout, you're not procrastinating, you're protecting. Your system starts choosing self-perseverance in the first 5 seconds of stress before your mind even gets to vote. So why can't I think clearly anymore? Well, when stress hits, a deadline, an email, tension at home, your nervous system goes into fight, flight, or freeze. And here's what most high-performing people don't know. Your frontal cortex shuts down. The part responsible for strategy, language, decision-making literally goes offline. You're not losing discipline, you're losing access to discipline. It's not that you can't get started, it's that your body decided in those first 5 seconds You can't perform right now. We have to survive. That's the biology of— Let me explain in survival terms. We've evolved to release adrenaline running from a tiger or chasing food. Today, we get adrenaline from email, from arguments, from constantly scanning for emotional danger. Then we sit still and we scroll Uber Eats or driving from the house to the office. Elevator up, meetings, elevator down to the parking lot and back in the car. No discharge. So those same fight or flight chemicals, cortisol and adrenaline, stay trapped in your system. We're not burnt out because we worked hard. We're burnt out because our body got stuck running a survival program with nowhere to run. So for years, I pushed through anything. Tech launches, payroll, lawsuits, long hospital nights with my father. Believing the next breakthrough would create safety. One afternoon in Taiwan, just days before a massive life transition, I stepped out to clear my head, went for a walk. No music, no phone, just walking. And my body started slowing down. My vision went black. Tears poured uncontrollably. I couldn't wipe them away. They were like faucet on open. I couldn't see where I was. I walked by feeling the tiles on the wall toward the hospital. That wasn't exhaustion. It was my nervous system forcing a reset my mind refused to take. So what changes when you reset? Well, when you regulate first, burnout stops making decisions. Clarity returns. Capacity rebuilds itself. I'm not asking you to push harder or motivate more. I'm asking you to physiologically reset the system that's choosing for you. That's the 3R method. Reset to interrupt the patterns, regulate to calm the system, and rebuild to move forward with clarity. Reset is that 5 to 7 second window. That 7-minute reset turns that window into a daily power-on sequence. A cycle breaker doesn't wait for a collapse. He learns to reset before a breakdown to build capacity, not from pressure but from peace. And that's how we start getting stronger. So tomorrow we talk about why the same survival pattern often chooses your relationships, why you feel the chemistry with people who hurt you, and why peace feels uncomfortable, and how your body decides attraction in 5 seconds. That's in the next episode. So if something in you felt seen today, don't do anything right now. Just know this: on December 6th, I'm hosting a live 60-minute experience called The 7 Minute Reset. It's where I take you through the exact practice that pulled me out of collapse. There's an early access link near this video, but don't rush to click it. Let your system absorb this first. Come back tomorrow. We'll go deeper then. Sribodh Dad.
