Before buying network equipment, measure your actual needs first. Organizations often skip this step and end up with mismatched solutions. Scope your environment and understand your capacity requirements, then evaluate products that fit.

You know what I don't understand is why in network security, people behave so unnaturally when it comes to improving or changing. For example, and I had given Michael this example last time we talked, let's say you need a table for your dining room, okay? What's the first thing you do? You look at your dining room and you say, "We need a table. How big's our dining room? What table would fit here?" And you actually scope it out, you see what you have, Then you go look at tables and you start putting one in, and when you go measure the table, you'll know whether a 6-foot table is going to fit in your room or not. You already know this, but yet with networks, they go and they buy stuff before they've even scoped, before they've measured the room, so to speak, or figured out what kind of table they think they need, and they just, they go buy a table and then try to fit it in the room.
