Information Classification lets you tag unstructured files like PDFs and images as critical or non-critical, so DLP tools can spot sensitive data that doesn't match obvious patterns like credit card numbers. This protects your crown-jewel documents from leaving the organization.

InfoClass is very important because it's such a foundational piece to so many other programs. For example, like DLP, Data Loss Prevention. Without InfoClass, you're limited to only like credit card numbers, pattern numbers you can, you can follow. InfoClass gives tools and other ability to tag data that may be unstructured or unable to know what it is. And so it can say this is critical, this is not critical. So an example would be with InfoClass implemented, you can now see if this document may be a PDF or an image. It might be proprietary, it might be something important. And so by having that labeled, the DLP tools now know that this, while not a pattern number, is a critical crown jewel, can't go out the door. So it allows tools then to better filter what data goes through its engine or through its, through its gates.
