106: Why Your Brain and Hormones Cannot Heal - The Missing Step in Fat and Cell Membrane Repair with Dr. Aaron Hartman
26 Dec 2025 · 4 min
Transcript excerpt from a podcast episode in which Dr. Aaron Hartman explains "lipid membrane medicine": using healthy fats, phospholipids, and binders to repair cell membranes, neurons, and hormone function compromised by seed/industrial oils. He recommends removing seed oils, increasing clean sources of saturated fats and omega-3/6 (butter, ghee, extra-virgin olive oil, avocado oil, fatty fish, organ meats, egg yolks), using phosphatidylcholine and butyrate-type compounds, adding binders/fiber to excrete altered lipids, and performing fatty-acid testing to individualize care. The episode also includes a short promo for his book Uncurable.

These things are stuck in your cell walls and membranes. It's hard to get this stuff out of your body. How do you actually get the bad oral out? How do you do an oral change? Can you do an oral change in your body? Short answer is yes. Can you use healthy fats to heal your brain, to heal your body, and to uplevel your health? That's what I want to talk about next. We've already talked about all the bad things with fats. Now I want to talk about lipid membrane medicine. It's some of the deepest medicine I've learned in the last five to ten years. Repairing cell wall membranes, repairing neurons, repairing hormones which are coming from cholesterol molecules. Repairing estrogen, which comes from a cholesterol molecule. Fixing cortisol, which comes from a cholesterol molecule. Fixing neurons, which come from mitochondria that have kids with autism, phospholipids. How can I actually use fat as a drug, as a medicine to heal these brains? And that's what I'll talk about over the next few minutes to give you some tools and some ideas to actually start using this to help healing yourself, your kids, your families. If you have inflammation or whatever going on. The first thing is to remove all the bad stuff. I'm not going to blame this point because we all know we should remove the seed oils. Canola oil, sunflower, sunflower oils, a little tricky, but in general remove it unless you 100% know it's clean sourced and it's not expeller pressed. Replacing with healthy fats. Olive oil, extra virgin olive oil has to be extra virgin. Avocado oil needs to be from Mexico. Butter, ghee come from grass fed grass finished sources. Coconut oil is actually pretty easy to get clean because there's not really a natural predator for coconuts and they're not sprayed a whole lot. Getting healthy fats, removing all the bad fats. The next thing is once you've made your home a clean place, when you go out to eat, just start avoiding places that use seed oils. Look at ingredients, start moving those from your diet. Great, but the problem is these things are stuck in your cell walls and membranes. It's hard to get this stuff out of your body. How do you actually get the bad oral out? How do you do an oral change? Can you do an oral change in your body? The short answer is yes. The first thing you want to do is start pouring in lots of healthy fats. These are healthy omega 3s, omega 6s, healthy saturated fats. Typically we'll Actually measure these levels in patients to see and many patients actually have deficiencies in saturated fats. But start putting these into your system. Butter ghee. There's one source for the omega 3s and 6s that we use, body balance oil. It's a 4 to 1 ratio of omega 6s to omega 3s. It's clean source, cold processed and we'll use that actually to help start putting one to two tablespoons of healthy fats into patients. The other thing is adding in phospholipids. Healthy phospholipids. The primary source for these in nature is organ meats and egg yolks and caviar, which you know is always fun to try to figure out how to get that. But phosphatidylcholine PC is a great source for these. I'm usually doing a tablespoon a day of this and one of the first things people notice when they start using it is their stool change and get kind of dark and it's literally washing out. Phospholipids actually act like soap on your cell wall membrane. So one of the things you'll notice is actually changing your stool for a couple weeks because you're literally just washing out the gunk and stuff. It's actually pretty profound. So putting in healthy fats, how do you up level that you know you can start making in smoothies? I start putting seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds are a great source for omega 3s into the smoothies. Eating more nuts, you know, half a cup of nuts, nut tend to be a little heavier, particularly walnuts and omega 6s. Your seeds tend to be higher in your omega 3s but just putting more of those into your diet. If you eat smoothies, you know, trying to get, you know, quarter, half a cup of those consumed a day is a starter point. And the other thing is adding in extra virgin olive oil, extra virgin olive oil. Though not an essential fatty acid, it does increase bile formation. The polyphenols are the healthy anti inflammatory molecules that do help with inflammation and it does help move your bile along and help extruded out. So you can use that to help bowel flowing. The next thing is how do you burn off the bad fats? That's by adding in things like butyrate, tudka, torso deoxycholic acid. These are things we that actually been studied in patients with neurological issues with actually an FDA approved drug to treat als. That's butyrate and that's phospholipid and Butyrate combined together. And so adding these in can be helpful. To start, you should put the healthy fats in. You start burning them off. That's the first part. Then adding in binders.
Have you ever lost trust in your own body or in the doctors who were supposed to help you heal? It happens to millions of people who are stuck in the cycle of prescriptions, tests, and more questions than answers. That's why Dr. Aaron Hartman wrote his new book Uncurable. As a physician and a parent, he's lived through the pain of being told there's nothing more we can do. But instead of accepting that, he built a new path, one that combines traditional and functional medicine to uncover what's really driving illness. Uncurable is more than a book. It's a roadmap to help you find the root causes your doctor might have missed, reactivate your body's natural healing systems, and finally, believe in what's possible again. If you've lost hope or trust in the system, this book will help you take back control. One of the things your body's really good at doing is recycling stuff. So if you add binders in nature's binders, fiber. But on top of that, you can use activoart, charcoal, clay, other binders that will bind bile, bile acid sequester into the most powerful ones. Those are your medications like cholestyramine or Wellcol. They tend to be very, very constipating. So a lot of people don't tolerate them. But your goal is to pour healthy fats in, burn off the bad fats, buying the stuff in your gut so you poop it out. So if you're not, you know, one of the best ways to do this is actually with fiber shooting 40, 60 grams a day. If you're not getting it, add more fiber in. If you're still not getting it and still having issues, adding some binders in board, that's the basic kind of concept to help washing out these bad fats. But the, the reality is you still need to consume large amounts of healthy fats. Don't be afraid of butter and ghee. Don't be afraid of organ meat. Don't be afraid of fatty fish like salmon. Putting these in your diet routinely, these things be huge with kids. I like to do testing. I think that's important because if you know someone is actually low in omega 3, omega 6, they're low in C15 or saturated fats. They're high in trans fats. You actually will pick it up sometimes on fatty acid testing. Their omega 6 levels are really, really high. Then that will change the food you introduce to help with this whole concept of lipid membrane medicine. But it's really not a complicated concept and doing that alone I've seen people have profound change in their health, particularly when you're adding in phospholipids like phosphatidylchol. Those are the main ways to lipid medicine can help flush things out, but again, removing the exposure, putting in the healthy fats, buying the stuff to poop it out, and then burning off the bad fats. Hopefully this information was helpful. If you have additional questions about seed oils with their detrimental effect on your health, and how you can actually use food and healthy fats as a medicine to help heal your body, ask us wherever you're watching this and we'll try to answer those in our feeds or on the podcast when time allows. Take care and we'll talk to you soon.
