97: Are EMFs Draining Your Energy? – The Fastest Ways to Reduce Hidden Exposure with Dr. Aaron Hartman
5 Dec 2025 · 3 min
Dr. Aaron Hartman covers everyday EMF sources and practical fixes: turn off routers at night, keep phones in airplane mode, reduce bedroom electronics, and try grounding mats. He notes incandescent bulbs emit less EMF than LEDs, and identifies smart meters and workplace lighting as hidden exposure points.

If you read the manual, it comes with most cell phones, it actually tells you not to keep it on your body due to the how much electromagnetic fields they emanate. So that's just something to keep in mind as well.
Let's say you're someone who either wants to prevent EMF exposure to prevent biologic systems becoming dysregulated, your nervous system being activated, or you're someone who knows you have a lot of sensitivities, chemical sensitivities, food sensitivities, you've noticed you have an EMF sensitivity, you want to mitigate exposure, so you mitigate your symptoms. So that's what we're going to talk about on this mini 10 minute podcast. In regards to EMF, the first thing you need to think about is reducing the overall load or exposure at home. And this is where you spend most of your time in bed. You spend most of your time in your home. For most people, if you're sleeping in bed seven, eight hours at night, and you're at home in the morning, you wake up for an hour, two hours at night, all of a sudden, you know, 12 hours, half your day is at home. And so just decreasing the exposure at home can be a huge influence on you. If you live in an apartment, one of the things you want to know about is are there routers, WI fi and people's apartments around you? Where is the apartment situated? Is it close to a cell tower? And depending on where you're at in the city, you might have some of these places you'll look in that. The hotels or the apartments themselves have tons of 5G and different things on top of the roof. So just being aware of your external environment can be helpful if you don't. If you live in a home, you're not somewhere like that. The easiest things to do, you know, is start looking on your router. We have WI fi in home. Is your router on when you're sleeping at night? Just cutting that off at night can mitigate exposure during sleep. Making sure your cell phone in airplane mode and away from your head, you know, do you have any, anything being plugged into outlets around your head, around your bed that you can unplug or turn off? Sometimes it's easier to have some people have like these circuits, circuitries, they'll put their whole room, bedroom on a, on a light switch and then you turn off all the electricity in the room. So that's something that's relatively easy for an electrician to do, just to run all the electrical in your room through that and turn off your router. That can mitigate a great amount of EMF exposure and then Bluetooth avoiding. You know, one of the things I see people using more and more these Bluetooth earbuds. It's almost like, you know, when you stick something in your ear, there's a hole actually where your ear canal goes through your skull into where your cochlea is. And putting a device into that canal, that's a Bluetooth that's emitting emf. It's inducing, it's putting stuff inside your head. So personally I use headset that comes out of my head. Yes, it's Bluetooth, but it's away from my ear.
Have you ever lost trust in your own body or in the doctors who were supposed to help you heal? It happens to millions of people who are stuck in the cycle of prescriptions, tests, and more questions than answers. That's why Dr. Aaron Hartman wrote his new book Uncurable. As a physician and a parent, he's lived through the pain of being told there's nothing more we can do. But instead of accepting that, he built a new path. One that combines traditional and functional medicine to uncover what's really driving illness. Uncurable is more than a book. It's a roadmap to help you find the root causes your doctor might have missed, Reactivate your body's natural healing systems, and finally believe in what's possible again. If you've lost hope or trust in the system, this book will help you take back control. Another thing to think about is the distance from your cell phone. I personally don't keep my cell phone on my body. If you read the manual, it comes with most cell phones. It actually tells you not to keep it on your body due to the how much electromagnetic fields they emanate. So that's just something to keep in mind as well. But these are some basic things you can do to mitigate exposure at home. Building materials at home, you know, using mag oxide paints or titanium or zinc oxide based paints when you repaint your home. If you're building a home using mag oxide walls, you know, if you have a choice between a brick home versus a, a vinyl home, having a brick and wax, you mitigate exposure to your house for EMF grounding techniques. You know, it's really interesting how just, you know, the concept of grounding, sleeping on a grounding mat will mitigate Some emf. And if you're really concerned about, you could always put one of these. They have these little nets you can put around your bed that actually pick up EMF and block it. But the point thing is just to cut off exposures. When you're sleeping, you want your bed, your sleeping place to be a sanctuary. To be a sanctuary. A place where you come when you feel safe. You don't want any TVs in there. And the Faraday cage is. Is. Is a way you can protect yourself. Not everybody needs that. But these are things to think about as far as where you work. You know, how can you adjust EMF exposure at work? You know, fluorescent lighting. You know, fluorescent lights actually have transformers in them which emanate. Not emanate, but give off EMF. LED lights do as well. We're switching to LEDs all over the place. They actually have miniature transformers in them that actually change the AC to DC for some LEDs that can emanate EMF. So the question is, you know, actually, incandescent bulbs have less EMF than LEDs. Smart meters, routers. Smart meters can be an exposure person. In our house, we drove a smart meter, but we have it at the far end of the house away from sleeping. So it's. It's like having a cell phone on 24. 7. So, you know, people sometimes make a big deal about smart meters. It's a big deal. It's not a big deal if your cell phone's on 24. 7. I don't care if it's all the other way to the side of the house. Right. If it's in my bedroom, behind my bedroom, then that's a different story altogether. And last, just shielding laptops that work. Grounding mats, ferrite beads, power cords. There are ways to minimize exposure need at work. The last thing I is evaluating devices that can help mitigate the emf. How do you figure out what's useful? There's two ways to mitigate emf. Passive and active. Passive things are actually the things that emanate a frequency that will meet the frequency of the EMF and minimize it. Those are kind of controversial. So if you have these devices you plug in, those are one way. It's best to use shielding, which is some metal or some object or something that actually shields you from the emf. These can be physical barriers. They can be objects. They can be, you know, brick. Concrete's a great one. If you have a block house. A lot of homes are made out of concrete. That's a earthen materials are great for blocking emf. Unfortunately a lot of homes here in Richmond are sick built homes and they're, you know, vinyl siding and wood and that's kind of. And drought and Sheetrock. That's about it. What else to think about? Passive shield, active shielding. There are some products that are out there, but the best thing to do is do some kind of physical blocker. The question becomes, you know, do you go to all the trouble to do this? The smart things are to eliminate, keep yourself in a way from you cut off the router in your home, not have all these, the lights on your home, when you know, wiring to your bedroom, having that go through a, a switch you can turn off. These are many different ways you minimize EMF exposure at home. But ultimately the question is, are you someone who's sensitive? And if you are, you really need to address it and you want to minimize the high intensity and middle range intensity. The reality is it's kind of hard to eliminate everything. And even in our cars today we get exposed to a lot of EMF in our cars just because of the computer systems and electronics in cars. So hopefully this information was helpful. If you have additional questions about emf, please put them below. I'd be happy to answer those for you. This three part series was more in relationship to some questions individuals had in the clinic as well as some questions online. So hopefully it was helpful. Otherwise, take care and we'll talk to you soon.
