Dr. Aaron Hartman explains that women's heart attack symptoms differ from men's 95% of the time, with only 30% experiencing chest pain. Women under 55 have twice the mortality rate of men the same age, partly because cardiac research has enrolled up to 80% male participants.

Women's heart attack symptoms differ from men's 95% of the time. The classic chest-crushing, elephant-on-your-chest symptom that's described in men with heart disease appears only in 30% of women. And women under 55 are twice as likely to die of heart attack compared to men in the same age range. Why is this? Because in the research, we looked at mainly men. Up to 80% of all research participants in the cardiac research literature are men. Ignore women. Why? Because their bodies are complicated. The physiology is complicated. It's literally like learning a whole different kind of medicine because they're just built different. So, what's the point? Know your body, trust your gut senses, and find a practitioner that can work with you. Also, individualize and personalize your healthcare. This is just one of the built-in things in our system. Our system is great at population-based medicine. We're great at taking care of 330 million people. And we're not so great at taking care of individuals. And so finding someone that can work with you and treat you as an individual is a key part to your healthcare. So if you'd like to learn more about how to find someone, how to work with a doctor in functional medicine where you're at, we have all these great resources on our website. If you have a story where you actually, your health was overlooked because of your gender, I'd love to hear below because this is how we can educate everybody and share this information. Take care. We'll talk to you soon.
