In this Virgin Radio Montreal interview, host Adam Greenberg runs a playful "Operation Turview" game with Canadian pop singer Tyler Shaw, using a toy surgery board and tweezers to add pressure to each question. The conversation covers several facets of Shaw’s artistry: his pre‑show vocal warm‑up routine, his songwriting workflow (starting with a beat or melody, using Logic Pro X, and building songs on acoustic guitar or piano), coping strategies for heartbreak and the mental challenges of the music industry (relying on music, a supportive team, and perseverance), and a glimpse into his creative process through a late‑night voice memo titled "New Recording 31." The interview also serves to promote Shaw’s new single "Cautious," with a call‑to‑action for listeners to stream or purchase the track. The tone is light‑hearted, conversational, and promotional, offering practical insights for aspiring musicians while entertaining the audience.

What's up everybody? Adam Greenberg here from Virgin Radio Montreal with Tyler Shaw. Hello. Because your new song is called "Cautious," I figured we will do an operationterview. How do you feel about that?
I feel really good about this.
We have this little guy over here. I think you all remember it quite well. Actually, when I opened it up, I realized it made a less obnoxious noise than what we remember.
I remember it being like—
Yeah, like— Yeah, so listen. Oh, you know, it's basically like a phone in your pocket. But anyway, what we're gonna do is you are going to take these tweezers, and as you pick it out, I'm gonna ask you a question. So it's gonna be under pressure. Okay, and you will have to be quite cautious.
Okay, I'm gonna be cautious about this, right?
Yeah. Oh yeah, it's, it's very stressful in here.
I think I'm gonna go for the Apple.
Do you do vocal warm-ups before a show?
Yeah.
So you got to do your vocal warm-ups.
What? All right, cool. That's a good one.
You kind of sound like the operation board. He got it! You're a pro.
What are your tools?
What is your process from start to finish? What are you using? Because there are so many young people out there that could be songwriting, could be producing their own stuff, could be learning instruments. You know, certain tricks of the Tyler Shaw trade.
Totally. So I guess when I first started doing music, I try to get the beat going first and— or the melody, kind of depends on what I wake up with.
Oh, we finally got him!
Dang it.
Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night?
All the time.
Yeah?
All the time. My phone is filled with, uh—
Oh, he got it.
Yeah. Logic X Pro is what I program with, and all songs are started on acoustic guitar for me. Acoustic guitar or keys.
Do you have any recommendations on how to get over a broken heart?
Yeah, music I find helps cure the soul. How am I supposed to get this?
It's tough. It's really in there.
Could you—
Just come in real close. Look at this.
Oh my gosh, it's really in there. Oh, okay.
Oh, oh, oh, a little buzz!
Let's do the rubber band.
The game of being a musician and an artist is all about perseverance and bouncing back and hearing every no that comes your way. What are some tactics that you use mentally even to like get through those moments? Rubber band, very easy.
For someone to get into this industry, you don't realize how much work has to go into it. Mentality-wise, you just, you learn from your mistakes. You make sure you don't repeat those mistakes. You surround yourself with positive people. You know, I have a great team behind me. You know, my fiancée is very supportive. So if you have a strong support system, a strong foundation, then I think you'll get through what you need to get through.
We have one more piece.
Yeah, diving in.
I think you're gonna like this.
Saving this guy's life. Oh!
Oh!
It's not right.
It doesn't matter, 'cause there are no repercussions for making it buzz. He's got the pencil and he has unlocked. What we want you to do—
What?
I wanna hear the last voice memo you recorded.
Recorded on your phone.
You know, because most of your songs I'm sure start from there. Let's see.
It's entitled "New Recording 31." 31. It's probably late at night.
Seems like he was in bed.
He was in bed.
It sounded like you actually fell asleep in the middle of that voice memo.
That'd be funny. Yeah, it's really good.
So there you have it. That is the Operation Turview with Tyler Shaw. New single out now, Cautious. Cautious, yes. Go get it everywhere that you could buy or listen to music.
Stream, yeah, everything.
