Happy 4th of July! Selling Tips for Canvassing on a Holiday

Adam Bensman ("the roof strategist") posts a short YouTube video offering door-to-door sales advice for canvassing on holidays (example: July 4th). He advises sellers not to fear working on holidays if personal plans permit, emphasizing work–life balance, targeting people who are outside and in a good mood, and using a simple SLAP pitch formula: Say hi/break the ice, Let them know why you’re there, Ask an open question, Present to their answer. Practical recommendations include being on foot, finding people outside, doing on-the-spot inspections or scheduling appointments, and using festive contexts as icebreakers. The tone is upbeat, practical, and conversational.

Happy fourth of July, everybody. Adam here, the roof strategist. And first and foremost, I want to wish you a happy 4th of July and thank all the men and women who served our country and made huge sacrifices to provide us the freedom that we have here in this great country. And I want to answer an email I got from Michael. Michael, thanks for inspiring. This video literally came in at 11:05 today and Michael asked, he says, hey, Adam, I wanted to ask if you ever knock doors in the fourth of July or on the Sunday. So today's video is going to give you some tips on selling on holidays. There's a couple things I want to hit on. One, don't be afraid to sell on a holiday. And remember, lifestyle balance is important. If you have a camping trip or family trip planned, spend it with family. It's okay to take the time off, but maybe you're staying at home or maybe you're only going to be celebrating in the evenings or on the weekend. And if that's the case, then using the morning and afternoon of a holiday like the 4th of July is a great time to be selling. Why? Because when you're going door to door, people are outside, they're, they're off of work and they're in a really good mood and chances are many of them might be having a little drink or two, so they're a little loosened up and happy to have a conversation. And I'll tell you, door knocking sucks a whole lot less when you join the festivities, when you're energized and you can walk up and kind of be the life of the party. It's a great icebreaker. And yeah, of course you're going to get rejected sometimes, but the people that welcome you with open arms, they might even throw a beer in your hand or a burger in your mouth for all you know. And it makes selling really fun. So a couple more tips. When you're cruising through, when you're canvassing, get out and be on your feet, all right? It's so much more approachable and focus on finding people that are outside having fun. And remember to use that slap canvassing formula. The pitch that I teach S okay, say hi, break the ice. L let them know why you're there and make it familiar. A, ask an open ended question and P present to their answer super simple format. The reason I teach that format, and by the way, I've done another video on that which you can check out. I get a lot of feedback of people saying, Adam, these word for word scripts don't work. The script that I would or the pitch that I was taught just doesn't feel natural. And that's why I like to teach these little formulas. So if you use that and you're walking up to someone, you can say, hey, you know, say hi and break the ice. Hey, Adam here. The reason I'm here is because what you're grilling smells delicious and I was wondering if you had another one. Right, so you can have fun with it and let them know why you're there. No, I'm not here to steal food. I was just leaving Peggy's house and I know it's a holiday, but we just got her roof approved and I wanted to stop by and ask you how everything was going with your house and just have a conversation and be casual when you start it that way. That's again the a asking that open ended question. How has the process been? Where are you in the insurance process? And then whatever they tell you, you can p present to that answer, oh, the insurance hasn't been out, we don't know about damage, the checks already been issued. Whatever it is, you can now present specifically to that answer. And while they're out there, you can say, listen, I'm not even going to take any of your time and if you're busy, I can always set an appointment to come back. So don't be afraid to to do the inspection on the spot or if they're busy, set an appointment to come back. Or if they're busy and you're right there, do the inspection, take your photo and video and set the follow up to show up and share all of your findings with them. So just want to close with this. Happy 4th of July. Spend the time with family, enjoy it. Remember that work life balance is important and at the same time it is a lucrative opportunity for you to be out selling and have fun with it. Catch people outside and join the party. And again, you have a great icebreaker. So happy 4th of July everybody. Celebrate, have some fun, be safe and I'll see you in the next one.
