You're in roofing sales, so it's only a matter of time before you hit a wall. You run up against a roadblock. And that roadblock can be anything from personal challenges to rejection, to having issues with customers, to having issues with your pitch, to having issues with adjusters, to self doubt to feeling the cards are stacked against you. Like Caleb shared in the interview, a 20 year old who earned his first six figures in the industry after having 10 deals denied. Well, what this leads to is frustration, self doubt. And we all have this thought, should I be doing this? Am I in the right job? Is it all worth it? Well, guess what? In this video, I'll be teaching you three different ways that are going to help you feel empowered on your very next move. So whatever wall you're up against, you're going to have three ways to overcome them. Personal, professional, customer, does not matter. Now before we get into it, if you're new here, welcome. My name is Adam Bensman, the roof strategist. And everything I do here in these videos and on my podcast, my products, my services are designed to help you develop a personal sales strategy to smash your income goal, which is a combination of three things. The be, that's you. The doing the sales activities and saying all the right things. Be do say those are the three elements to succeeding in roofing sales. And everything I do is designed to help you fulfill on that mission. And this video helps on the be, the personal development side. Who you are today is going to be a different version of you in a week from now, in two weeks from now, in a year from now, as you earn more and get better in your craft. But on that journey, we struggle and we face obstacles and everything I'm going to be teaching in this video is going to help empower you on your very next move. So if you are new here, hit the subscribe button and the bell and let's jump right in to today's video. Alright, this book inspired this video. It's called Green lights by Matthew McConaughey. Now, I've never been a huge Matthew McConaughey fan, but I heard him talk about this book on a podcast. I downloaded an audible sample and I chewed through it. It was entertaining, it was empowering, it was uplifting. It talked about passion and pursuit in navigating life in an effort to get more green lights. Listen to When It's Yellow or Red. It was a phenomenal read. So if you liked this video, that's what inspired. Excuse me. This book is what inspired this video. Check it out on audible while you're driving around to convert your vehicle into a mobile classroom. Let's jump into those three tips. So next time you're up against the wall, we're going to break down how you can use One of these three choices that Matthew McConaughey shared in his book Green Lights to help you break through and continue moving forward. Because sometimes what we need is a clear path forward, a clear resolution. And there was another book, the Subtle Art of Not Giving an F. And he talked about all the frustration that we experience as humans is about not finding solutions. We are solution oriented humans. We are up against it. We, we are stressed, we're freaking out. But the minute we have a plan, a plan, we feel better. That's why, by the way, I provide plans to help you sell. Because when we have a plan, we feel confident and secure. But what about the personal stuff, the stuff you face inside? We need a plan forward. And these three things that we'll be sharing in this video are going to help you with your plan to break through whatever wall you are up against. So the first one again from Matthew McConaughey, pivot. Let's tell you a story. Get an email from a guy. He says, adam, my company pitch isn't working for me. It's like 30 seconds long. It's too long, winded. I don't feel confident. Now here's what happened. I told him, I said, listen, you got to abide by the company and the culture. You're with the company that you're representing. And at the same time, in the field, real world applications, what matters if you're able to drive results with integrity, serve your customers well, represent your company well, you can pivot. So I advised him, I said, you know, try the slap formula at the door and see what happens. You know what he did? He emailed me, he says, Adam, I went 0 for 100 doors. I switched to your approach. I went 3 out of 4 like that. So what's the key message if you're up against it? Let's say your script isn't working, your door to door pitch isn't working. What are your options? Option one is to pivot. Pivot meaning try something new. When you drive up against the wall, look for the way around the wall. So if it's a customer and they are approaching you with their frustrated, I didn't get this. I don't want to pay my deductible. I want to back out of this. They're pushing back. They're upset about the Screen getting ripped from a falling shingle. What do you do? You can pivot. Try something new. Half of the things that I'm teaching you in these videos and in my programs are because I pivoted when I was up against a wall and had a mistake, a failure or something. And I said, well, that didn't work. Let's try something new. Think of it like bashing your head into the wall over and over. You know, I got an email today from a gentleman, his name's Pete, and he's having a hard time in an area cleaning up, as he said, off the back end of an old storm. Well, what can we do? We can either keep getting into the neighborhood, we can pivot into a new script at the door, we can pivot into a new neighborhood or a better neighborhood. So when you're up against it, feel empowered, walk around the wall, look in ways, in areas and in paths that you haven't looked before and you can break through. That, my friends, is how we pivot. Option two, Proceed. I like this. It's super simple. Now what do we mean by proceed? You're up against a wall, alright? Now, some walls are so big that you could push with all of your might. That wall ain't going anywhere. But what if it's just a minor barrier and you really put some momentum into it, you lean your shoulder, boom, and you're breaking through and now you're moving through the wall. What does proceed mean? That's consistency. Like Caleb, who was just on the channel recently at 20 years old, gets into the industry. His first 10 sales are declined, rejected. What does he do? He maintains consistency. He proceeded to do everything that he was doing that worked. Knowing that it would continue to eventually break through, he proceeded through the wall. He put more momentum into that consistency. Or Mitch, who I had on the channel, Mitch had a slower start in roofing sales. Well, actually, no, he didn't. He said he signed like 13 deals in his first month. But you know what he told me about why he kept up that consistency. And you can check out that video too. I interviewed him. He said, adam, my secret to success is consistency. Which happens to be what Caleb said, which is also similar to what Will said on the channel. All these guys are earning six figures or multi six figures in roofing sales because when they are up against something and they know, oh, I just need to keep that momentum going, even if it's tough, we need to proceed. So if you've had claims denied like Caleb running into issues with your crew or with a Company or whatever it is, you can push through and proceed. Push that wall back. Don't let it stop you. If you're up against it and you just do this, it ain't going to work. Now, that does lead us to one other choice that we have, and that's the third one, and that is to concede. Now concede. Call it quits. Raise the white flag. Put your hands up and know. Nope. Ain't going to work. Not for me. Well, guess what? When is this a good option for you? Here's first one, the wrong customer. Don't be afraid to fire a customer. I had a customer, huge house. I was so stoked to land this deal. You know what I did? Mint the house, go through the contingency, get it signed. Calls me up three hours later. He read all the fine print. He chewed me out. I am taught. This is the funny part. I'm going to rehearse it. He calls me up and he goes, adam, I. You came over here. You lied to me. This was all misleading. I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. Cancel the agreement. It is within the three days. I am done. I am done. I am done. And he kept going. And I was like. So I just sat there and I let him finish. And his name was Neil. And I'll never forget it. I said, neil, I respect your wishes, and I wish you the best of luck. I just want to clarify some things for the honor and integrity of how I served you, that your interpretation of these was not as accurate as you felt they were. Here's why. And I explained it. And then I said, I just want to wish you the best of luck. Guess what happened. Neil called me back not a few hours later. Adam, I reread everything. You were right. I'm very sorry. Can you come back? We'd like to work with you. You know what I said? I said, neil, it sounds like we're not a good fit. I want to wish you the best of luck. That was one of the most memorable and important lessons in my roofing sales career. Why? Because I walked away from probably a $3,500 commission job, Monster home. But I knew that that guy Neal was going to be a nightmare. He was disrespectful to me. There was way better ways to handle it. He yelled at me, he was rude, and his true color shown. Now, I could have said yes and taken that 3500 bucks, but I knew at the very. That very moment, nothing good was going to come from our time together. So what I do. I conceded. I let him go. You're not my customer. We're not meant to work together. It is not worth 3500 bucks to get stomped on and treated disrespectfully. Best of luck, and I'm on my way. Another time to concede. You're at the wrong company. You're not being treated well. You're not getting paid. Is the industry. Are you in the wrong position? Is this the thing that's going through your head? Should I be doing this right now? This comes to our mind. And remember, there's three kind of tiers, three kind of pieces of the puzzle to succeeding. There's you and your. Who you are, your mindset, right? There's the sales activities that you're doing, and then the company that's backing you. And if you're with the wrong company who doesn't support you, you're not getting paid. I had a horror story just this week of a guy who's $100,000 of commissions that are still owed to him. $100,000. That's a piece you need to concede. Figure out a way to get that resolved and move into someone else who's going to back you. And you know what? I hate to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway. Roofing sales might not be for you, and that's okay. This industry is tough. You will get beat up, you will get pounded on, you will get rejected. And you know what? It's rewarding as hell. Did I say fun? Uh, it can be fun. It is a roller coaster. If you're not up for that, roller coaster, ride at that next time where it's ready to get off, get yourself off of there. Not for you. That's a. Okay. But if you're, you know, still watching, chances are you're thinking, hell, no. That ain't me. I'm here to make it. I'm about to break through. This is going to happen. Good for you. Learn when those obstacles come up to not waste your energy. So the next time that you're facing a wall, an obstacle, a personal struggle, a pitch that's not working, a customer that's driving you nuts, a company that doesn't support you, a customer that's running you through the ringer, whatever the case may be, adjusters denying claims that shouldn't be, you have three choices. Feel empowered. Pivot. Try something new. Find a way around it. Find a new angle. Proceed Push through, continue, be consistent and persistent. Or if you're up against that wall and it is so hard and you know in your heart of hearts, I got to just back it off, then concede. And having that answer in your mind is going to help you break through. Because guess what? Roofing sales and smashing your income goals is all about breaking through to the next level. And you will encounter new problems every step of the way. The problems that you had to Earn your first 50,000 in commissions is a very different problem than your next hundred thousand. Because at first it's how do I get sales? How do I talk the right way? How do get to the kitchen table, close deals? Then the next problem you create, how do I keep up with this? I'm drumming up so much business. How do I manage my day to my next problem? Okay, and what's that? Taking it to the next level. I've reached a ceiling. How do I go from 100,000 to 150, 150 to 200, 200 to 250, 250 to 300. These problems you're going to face, these walls you're going to face, are inevitable. Brace the challenge. And I hope that these three paths forward empower your next move. And remember, every time you feel that resistance, every time you feel that struggle, every time that you are up against something, you can pivot, you can proceed, or you can concede.
