Hey, guys, Adam here, the roof strategist, and I'm going to teach you how to deal with people that answer the door like this. We all know what that's like, right? When you're canvassing and you have someone who's doing that really guarded thing. And this is especially relevant during this coronavirus deal, which, by the way, even if this is over and you're watching this way later, it is totally relevant then as it is right now. Now, when people answer the door like that, so many canvassers and roofing salesmen freak out and they say, hey, how do I deal with this? Because it's like, am I getting rejected? You almost set yourself up for rejection. And the unconscious behavior that we have as canvassers and salespeople and roofing salespeople is to almost prepare ourselves unconsciously. Like, our body is controlled by these unconscious impulses in our mind to start walking away and readying ourselves for that rejection to make it easier to kind of guard ourselves. Because the truth is, getting kicked in the teeth and getting rejected over and over again freaking sucks. But it's the nature of the beast. And if you haven't done so yet, watch my video on staying motivated while canvassing, because I give you a really cool story that you can think about, and it's super empowering. I've gotten a bunch of feedback on how you can use this, how guys are using this in the field and gals actually are using this in the field to avoid feeling rejected and staying confident, knowing that it's not about you. So I'm going to go on a small tangent to inspire you. When this happens, guys, people don't care who it is. Like, you could be showing up with a pot of gold wrapped in a velour purple like, sack with a bow on it and their name and a singing telegram dancing, and they're still not going to be happy. You just can't please everybody. It's the way it is. So don't take it personal. It's not about you. It doesn't matter who's there. Okay? And the more I know it's easier said than done, but when you think about this, like, people are reacting in their daily life based on what's going on inside them or what's inside the house that we can't see and we don't know about. So don't take it personal. So here's what you can do when someone is answering the door. Let's do it from this side. I got more room. Right? Hello? Who's There. Don't be shy. This is an opportunity for you to be playful. You need to challenge yourself because there's two things that are going to happen. One, you get rejected. Guess what? Nine times out of ten, we do. Or two, you try to use new tools to make this fun and be playful. So when someone. Next time someone's giving you the sneak, door, whoops, peek around, be playful back, okay? Put your. Let me grab it. Your clipboard, which I got too wild with my hands, but put your clipboard up. You say, I don't bite. Be funny. Catch them off guard. Make them laugh. Do something funny. Take a step back. Be like, oh, hey, I don't bite. Right? Do something like that. Or, you know, I'm not here to barge in. Don't worry. I just stopped at your neighbor's house. Like, get them to let their guard down. Because what are they telling you? My guard is up, right? I'm answering the door like this. So help them get their guard down. Guys, what I teach on this channel is about making human connection. It's about having fun. It's about educating people. Going door to door is either awesomely rewarding or truly miserable. There's no in between, right? It's like, yeah, I got a grand slam. The homeowner invited me in. We had a beer. They invited me to dinner. They walk me to the neighbor's house. Or like, the guy racked a shotgun on the front porch and told me to get the F off before he calls the police and shoots a hole in my pants. Like, there's no in between. So remember, bring your humor to the table, all right? Next time someone gives you the half door open, check, hold your clipboard up. I don't bite. Or, hey, I'm not here to barge in. I'm just up here because I was working with Kelly from up the street. Like, be playful. When someone does that, they'll often. You'll catch them. So off guard, okay? And most importantly, this is a great opportunity. When I first came into door to door sales, I was trying super hard to see how long I could keep someone chatting. Because the more I did that, even if I didn't make the sale, it boosted my confidence to learn how to handle uncomfortable situations, overcome objections, and just keep the dialogue going. To think quick on my feet, which has been one of the most valuable tricks. Not tricks. The valuable natural talent that I've developed is to be quick on my feet to respond like, boom, boom, boom, when someone's throwing something at me that I wasn't expecting. So in the past I get caught in my heels. I'd be like, and then I have to like think like, how do I respond to that one. But the more you practice this, which is a super subtle art form, being quick on your feet, use those times of like, well, I ain't going to sell to you. So let's use this as a training experience. You'll become such a stronger salesperson. Now for other tricks and tips on how to do this, I recommend two things. One, watch my video on acing your pitch at the door. You can click by the way, on my channel the videos tab. You're going to see all the different videos. Scroll through them. You can use the search video. I've done a bunch on scripts at the door, starting conversations using open ended questions. And if you want to take it to the next level, I have all of this scripted out for you inside my marketing battle pack. I forget how many. It's like 19 or 20 door to door scripts. There's cold call scripts. So after you do your fun playful thing like, no, I don't bite. I'm just here to help out. I was just dropping something off after I left Kelly's house. Like after you use all that, use those scripts to start that conversation using open ended questions. And when you do it this way and have fun, the next part of the sales process is so much easier. So there it is. Here's a quick motivational video for you. Watch it again. Be playful. Have fun with your sales. If you like this video, click Thumbs up tells me to make more like it.
