How to go from 0k to 5k to 10k per month in your Online Fitness Business.

This is a YouTube video titled "How to go from 0k to 5k to 10k per month in your Online Fitness Business." It features a detailed monologue by Adam Hayley, recorded in February 2025, where he explains step-by-step strategies for building an online fitness coaching business. Adam covers topics such as platform selection, advertising, team building, product focus, and common mistakes to avoid at different revenue milestones. The content is instructional and aimed at fitness coaches looking to grow their online business.
I'm going to show you exactly how to build an online fitness coaching business from scratch to its first 5k per month. And then I'm going to show you what you need to do to take it to 10k per month. I'm going to show you what you should focus on, what you should avoid, what platforms to be on, whether you should run ads, everything. I'm Adam Haley and I've worked with over a thousand personal trainers to ditch the gym floor, go fully online and hit in excess of 5k per month. So having worked with tons of coaches at this point since 2018, I've seen the inside of all of these businesses from zero to kind of their first 2k, 3k, 4k, 5k, 10k, 20k, 30k, 40k. We've got guys in the program doing in excess of 100,000pound months and I'm going to show you everything that you need to do as well as what you shouldn't be doing. Let's jump right into this. So we're going to focus on the left hand side and the left hand column to begin with the 5k per month. So let's start with platform or platforms, plural. So where should you be posting? Where should you be trying to source your clients from? As an online fitness coach? Instagram is without doubt the number one platform. It's a visual platform, which lends really well of course to the before and after and transformative nature of physique coaching. The algorithm, if your content is good, will have your current followers see it multiple times, which is great for building trust. And Instagram has the best DM functionality out of any social media platform. So if you want to get to 5k per month fast, then Instagram is the number one platform that you need to be on and it is the only platform that you need to be on. Next up would be ads. Do you need to spend money on Facebook or YouTube or whatever advertising platform in order to hit your first 5k? Absolutely not. I think it's a really bad idea. When starting from zero, you need a proven offer, you need a product that is validated that people want to sign up and pay for organically and that people actually get results with and stay part of. If you start spending money on ads from day one, you can, you are literally setting fire to your money. Whereas once the business has momentum, then throwing ads on top is like putting fuel on the fire. So to get to that first 5k, do you need ads? No. Next on the list would be team. So how many people do you need on your team? What role should they be in? And really easily it's literally you, it's one person. So right now you need one channel, which is Instagram. You don't need to run any ads and you just need yourself to who's going to put the content out, close a couple of calls and then work with the clients. And the reason that you don't need a team at this stage is because to hit your first 5k per month, you would literally need 20 to 25 online clients maximum, which would be around 2 to 4 hours per week of check ins and delivery, which I'm sure you can manage. The sales calls at the beginning are really important that you take them so that in future if you ever do want to outsource sales, you've been there and done it, you know the process that works. So to get to that first 5k, you need to roll up your sleeves, get it done. You do not need a team. The focus at this stage is on product. So I mean we could call it product or we could call it really results. So how do we produce a program that actually delivers what it says on the tin? I'm sure right now if you were to look around the gym that you go and train at that most of the clients of the personal trainers there look the same every single month. They don't change. It's the same in the online coaching space is most online coaches are not great online coaches. Their clients look the same three, four, five months down the line, which is why they leave. Your first priority is to become a world class coach. Get amazing results that will amplify everything you do from a marketing perspective and you'll create clients that never want to leave. And the final subject that I want to quickly run through is the mistakes that that I commonly see at this level and specifically what I want you to avoid. And for the most part it's distraction. It's trying to think that you need to be on every single social media platform. You're trying to be on TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, email, you're trying to run some paid adverts. You're just trying to do everything. You need to focus. So when we break focus down, you want to view it like this. Follow one course until success. That means that if Instagram is a little bit slow to take off, double down on it. Don't spread yourself thin by adding in other platforms. So a really fast recap, number one is you just need Instagram. You do not need any other social media platforms to get to your first 5k per month as an online fitness coach. Number two is you do not and you should not run paid ads. Number three is you don't need a team, you need to do the work at this level. Number four, the big focus is should be on results. It should be on building a great product that people don't want to leave and they want to tell everybody about. And number five is staying distraction free. Follow one course until success. Next up, let's discuss the differences between a 10k per month business. Okay, so when it comes to platforms, at this point we do want to go plural. So we want to go Instagram plus YouTube. Now I like Instagram because it's the fastest platform to get up and running with the landing clients, mainly because of the DM features and the short form nature of it. It's very easy to build an audience on there. So Instagra, in my opinion is the number one platform to get you to that first sort of 5 to 10k. Then what we want to do is we want to start building a long form backbone. And that's where this platform that you're watching me on comes in, YouTube. It's a slower growth, it's harder work because it's long form content. So it requires more thought, more effort, but you're building a really strong asset. And one of the best things about YouTube is how the algorithm works. So on Instagram, TikTok, these sorts of things, once you post something really within like a week or two, it's kind of done maximum often like 24, 48 hours, it's unlikely that piece of content ever really helps you in any way. Again, whereas YouTube, you could be watching this video two years after I've shot it. I watch videos that are like six months old, a year old, five years old, because the problem they're solving is still relevant. And it gets shown to me from YouTube if it performs well. So although YouTube is tougher, it's a slower burn. I would really implore you at the 10k mark to start building a long form presence. And if you really want to go all out and you have the bandwidth for it, then the next thing that I would add in at this stage would be email. And the reason for this is because your Instagram followers are not actually your Instagram followers. You could lose your account, get hacked, have it disabled. Same with YouTube. Your channel is unlikely, but your YouTube channel could get taken down, could get hacked and so on. Whereas with email, these people on the email list, these leads are yours. You can do backups whenever you like to a CSV file that is yours to keep forever. You can move it from different email service providers and platforms. Whereas you can't move your Instagram followers to YouTube, you can't move your YouTube followers to LinkedIn and so on. So building an email list at some point is a really strong insurance policy for the long term. Next up would be ads. And at this level I would recommend doing some form of paid media. So I would look to spend around 5 to 10% of your total revenue. And the goal of this is simply to get more eyes on your stuff. So the easiest thing to do here would be to boost your Instagram content. You would take your best performing organic content. You would use the suggested audience feature within the targeting. You would select profile visits and this will show your content to more people that don't currently follow you, giving you the opportunity for them to hit that follow button. So when it comes to team, it's going to be you plus an assistant, plus maybe a coach. When you start getting to this level, you can either scale through price, charge more money, work with less clients, that way you don't need another coach, or you keep your pricing the same, you keep your sales process the same, and when you hit capacity, you start passing clients over to a second coach. The assistant here is really the game changer that I think is the essential. So your assistant is going to help you with appointment scheduling, content production, video editing, content scheduling, your DM process, your calendar, everything. And that is going to help free up bandwidth to allow you to continue to grow the business. So when it comes to what to focus on at this stage, you should already now have a really great product that is getting results. So the piece that's missing now is more eyes. And basically how do we just get you more exposure, how do we get you more visibility, how do we get more people knowing who you are? This is where of course the long form content starts to come in. This is where we can push on referrals, this is where we can bring on micro influence influencers. This is where we can run the paid ads. We're basically doing all of these things so that we start to make you omnipresent and for people to see you time and time and time again to build that level of trust. And the mistakes that we want to avoid at this level is not dropping the ball on the basics that got you here. So the issue that I see with a lot of coaches when they start getting to those 10k months is all of the basics that they just did day in day out to get them to that first 5k. They now think that they're above, they're trying to chase shiny objects. They spend more time now on marketing and not focusing on building that great product and servicing their clients at the highest level. So the mistake that you really want to avoid here is not forgetting the basics and still focusing on delivering a world class service and getting your clients jaw dropping results. And there you have it. So this really is the roadmap that will take you to that first sort of 5k per month, 10k per month within your fitness coaching business. So again recap, left hand side 5k1 platform Instagram, no paid ads, just you as the team focus on getting phenomenal results and building a great product and stay distraction free, follow one course until success. On the right hand side 10k we want to add YouTube. So long form content in alongside the short form Instagram content. Maybe we also add email so you build your own list of customers so that you build your own list of leads. We now start reinvesting back into the business so around 5 to 10% of total revenue should be reinvested back into meta ads to increase your profile. While team wise we want you plus an amazing assistant and maybe a coach. The focus at this level wants to be all around exposure, visibility, getting more eyes on you and the mistake that you want to avoid is not forgetting the basics. So there you have it. I hope this has been useful. Now one of the biggest skill sets that you need to master on your way to building to that first 5k 10k is sales. Luckily for you I put up a training here that shows you exactly what I did to make over 10 million in sales over the past few years. Go check it out.
