Spend your career working with people you actually like. The speaker has worked with the same creative director for 15 years across different roles, and that continuity deepens how well you understand each other and makes work better.
I think it's again, surrounding myself by people, especially on the work side, surrounding myself with people that I want to be around and making that an enjoyable part of the day. I think, especially for people who are earlier in their career, there's many times that you spend more time with your colleagues than anyone else. And you don't, in some cases, always enjoy those people. And so what I've done over the past 10 years is pull in the people that I've enjoyed the most. And what I'm excited about is as they've gotten more and more senior, you know, whether that is For example, my creative director on the agency side, he's worked with me off and on for the past 15 years in different capacities, and because of that, I know what makes them happy, I know what makes them sad, I enjoy being around them, I know their life, you know?
Get a mentor as soon as possible — and make sure it’s a mentor in your space.
