All right now let's get into it because I know you are waiting for this one here are 40 weird ways to Find clients straight from the Posse community Now each idea on this list is categorized into one of my four proven methods for finding clients. Hunt, Gather, Play and Slay. And you might find success with all four of these methods. Or you might find that one works better for you based on your personality type. We are all different and different methods work for different people. So diving into method number one Hunt. This method is all about getting super strategic and searching for clients that are a fit for you. So ask yourself, what brands do you admire and what products do you love? Follow them on social media, get on their email list and watch what they are doing. Like not in a creepy way but like watch. You can then try reaching out directly to them by sending emails and making an irresistible offer, searching their job pages or waiting for a job. Opportunities pop up that you can apply for. A lot of them will send it to their email list or even on social media. And remember. Remember in the beginning it is okay to apply for jobs that aren't technically copywriting roles. You can try applying for a related role and use it as your way to get your foot in the door and work your way up in a company. I have hired writers in this exact way, just like this Posse member who said I applied for a hiring post even when it wasn't the role I desired. But I for sure wanted to work with that company. So I applied for the position. When they asked me how I could help them, I didn't just say what fit within the job description, but also other ways I can help them grow. Yes, I love this so much. With the Hunt method, your number one goal is to get your foot in the door with a company you really want to work with. It may start off as a smaller project or another role related to copywriting, but not quite copywriting, but once you're in, it's a lot easier to work your way up to highly paid copywriter status. Moving on to method number two. Gather. So this method is about good old fashioned networking and relationship building and it should start with connecting with who. Who you already know. Yes, who you already know. Share what you're doing with the people who are already really likely to advocate for you and refer work to you Even someone you haven't spoken to since, I don't know, 8th grade can send you a client. I'm talking friends of friends, even your friend's neighbor. Don't be afraid to tell everyone you know, meet and cross paths with about what you do and why you do it. So yes, your friends, your family, your colleagues, your current and previous bosses, anyone you pay for services on a regular basis, and yes, even complete strangers. In fact, and I love this, a ton of my students have turned their nine to five bosses or colleagues into their first freelancing client by simply telling them what they're learning and what their goals are, which I think is so freaking awesome. Like, hey boss, you want to be my client? Okay. Also, think about what you do day to day and the business owners that you meet literally all the time. I'm talking hairstylists, personal trainers, dog walkers, you name it, right? You pay people on a regular basis and they are business owners who need your services. Are you bartending right now to make ends meet while every single person you serve has the potential to become a client? Or, and this is what a lot of people like totally forget, refer you to someone who they know needs a copywriter. And of course, in addition to connecting with the people you already know, get out there and actually meet new people. Go to marketing seminars, workshops or local meetups in your area. In fact, I met my first high paying retainer, your client, at a marketing conference in Phoenix. The world is literally your oyster and potential clients are everywhere you go. You just need to look out for them. So the next time you're working at a local cafe, try to make small talk with the people around you. You know, everybody else who's sitting there working on their laptops too. You never know what could turn into a connection. In fact, I once met a client and an ex boyfriend that way. Different people, different times, but still, right? Or maybe you're talking to that person who you're awkwardly sitting next to at a wedding or on an airplane. They could be your next client. In fact, strangers you meet anywhere could be your next client while on a daytime party boat cruise, getting a tarot reading in the back of an Uber, at a cooking class, at a meditation retreat, sitting at the bar, on a beach, sipping a margarita, making moves on the dance floor at your kids art club. Or maybe your kid's teacher has a side hustle that they need marketing help with. Getting your hair or makeup done at the local salon, on the acupuncture table while you're learning and practicing a new Language, waiting for your car to get fixed at the mechanic. Or hey, maybe that date you went on didn't turn into a romantic relationship. They just might turn into your next client. I thought that was so funny how common that was in the Posse community. Like, date turn to client. Hilarious. Or maybe you just chat up the person standing next to you in line at the bathroom, you know, at a restaurant you're at, or at the grocery store. Or even eavesdropping, of course, when done tactically, can land you a new client. I love this Share from the Community the word blog from a nearby table interrupted my combo with a friend at a cafe. I stopped, looked at them, and said, sorry, I'm a copywriter. The word blog is a trigger. Everyone laughed and we started a conversation. I love it. It's just being real. It's just being real, right? So just remember, when it comes to networking, whether you're at an actual networking event or you're meeting strangers on the street, or you're talking to friends and friends or whatever, never start conversation with the intention of selling yourself, because we've all been there, right? It's annoying, it's icky, and no one will want to talk to you. So just let it be a natural conversation. Ask questions and make genuine connections and friendship and then that might turn into something, right? Because people want to work with people they know like and trust. Period. All right, moving on to method number three. Play. So this method is all about showing up actively online and building your personal brand, audience and authority. So show up on LinkedIn, be on Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, have an upwork profile. Fiverr. You know all those places. And no matter what, make sure your profiles are optimized. So say what you do and how you do it and how you can help. Have a professional photo that makes you approachable. Remember, potential clients are reading your profile if they're interested in hiring you. So give them a reason to actually reach out to you. And hey, you might even get a Fortune 100 client reaching out to hire you. That is so epic. So. So find the communities, find the groups, find the hashtags, find the Reddit threads, and truly connect and engage with people. Have fun with it. It doesn't have to be so serious. It doesn't have to be heavy. That's why I call this method Play. Right? So just start by having conversations and connecting with your ideal clients on topics they care about. Post relevant content and showcase your skills. Like this member from the Posse who shared someone raised a common problem to which I posted My experience and challenges and it opened up a whole new set of opportunities. Or person who commented on a LinkedIn post and got connected right there with someone in the comment section. As long as you're showing up in these communities and having genuine conversations and not just like blatantly selling your services or begging for work or like trying to add value, but everyone can see right through that bs, right? This is such a great way to showcase your expertise and connect with clients and just build your authority and brand online. And hey, you could even give someone a compliment in the comment section and then land them as a client. I love it. And moving on to method number four, Life day. So this method is all about building your business through results and referrals. So with this method, you want to do what you do, do it well, stay in your lane, get clear on what you offer, never stop learning and improving and taking feedback and continuing to cultivate your skills. So maybe this means that you get an email and it kind of looks and reads like a scam, even though you happen to know the person sending it is not a scam at all. So you decide to reach out and just offer your expertise without any expectation of being hired. You're just being helpful, right? Or maybe you're booking an Airbnb for your next vacay and you just can't help but give some pointers to them so that they can market their place better. Or maybe it just means that you do what you do so well that you get referrals because you're showing up and you're providing results for your clients. Now, while it can take some time to find these super connector clients, as I like to call them, by showing up and doing great work, you can build your referral network without ever needing to create a website, post on social media, or send a cold email. I've done it. I've had many students who have done it this way. Now, of course, this won't be how you land your very first client, because you need to build up some authority before you get referral. But it is the fastest and easiest way to grow and scale your business once you get going. Referrals and old clients coming back for more is exactly how I took my business from low five figures to multiple six figures when I was a freelance copywriter. And I think the most important thing to remember is that every single business coach, entrepreneur, service provider on the planet needs a copywriter. You just gotta find out how to connect with the ones who are looking for you and see the value in what you are offer. The possibilities are endless.
