Start An Online Business Today – 5 BEST Freelancing Jobs In Demand Right Now

In this video Alex Cattoni encourages viewers to leave the traditional 9‑to‑5 for a freelance career that offers freedom, higher quality of life, and the chance to travel. She opens by celebrating the UK’s new National Freelancer Day and cites surveys showing freelancers are happier, more optimistic, and often earn better compensation than salaried workers. Alex then counts down the five freelance skills that are most in demand today: (1) Writer – both content writing (brand‑building, SEO‑aware) and copywriting (lead‑generation, psychology‑driven); (2) Social Media Manager – creating strategy, posting, monitoring metrics, and running ads; (3) Website Designer/Developer – visual design, responsive coding, and tech stack basics; (4) Copy Editor – meticulous grammar, punctuation, and consistency checks; (5) Virtual Assistant – admin, scheduling, bookkeeping, and occasional content work. For each role she explains what the work entails, why businesses need it, and what personality traits or technical skills help succeed. Throughout she stresses the flexibility and control freelancers have over hours, clients, and rates. The video ends with a strong call‑to‑action: a free two‑hour copywriting masterclass (link in description) that teaches how to launch a copywriting business, build a portfolio, attract dream clients, and future‑proof against AI. Alex also invites viewers to comment on their chosen freelance path and teases a follow‑up video. The tone is upbeat, persuasive, and community‑focused, aiming to both inform and motivate the audience to start freelancing now.

The UK recently named June 16 as national freelancers Day, which is tomorrow if you're watching this video on the day it is released. This makes the UK the first country ever to give national recognition to this growing and thriving industry. So mad props to the UK for trailblazing this new holiday. And let's hope that other countries follow suit. Now, in honor of the UK's newly named National Freelancer Day, I thought we should pay tribute to this amazing, though slightly unconventional career path. So here are just a few of the reasons why freelancing is amazing and on the rise. First, it promotes a better quality of life. So a 2015 survey found that freedom, choice and flexibility often equal happiness. So it's really no surprise that freelancers are happier than workers who are in more of those traditional 9 to 5 jobs. Report linker actually found that freelancers are more optimistic and happier than traditional workers. With 84% of freelancers saying they find a real sense of purpose in what they do. And not only that, but the majority of freelancers also report they are receiving actually better compensation and attaining a better work life balance. And all of that together, of course promotes a much higher quality of life, which is amazing. Next Reinventing the workday. Yes, when you're a freelancer, you work for yourself, which means that you are in complete control of the hours you work, how heavy your workload is, what type of clients you work with, how much you charge, and ultimately what skills you learn. This level of job freedom and flexibility is seriously life changing, and it's one of the top reasons freelancers say they could never go back to a regular 9 to 5. Next there's something for Everyone so probably one of the coolest things about freelancing is that it is very diverse. There is really something for everyone, from the more common trades like writing and photography to trades that are a little bit more out there, like rocket science, bounty hunting, and even baby name consulting. That's actually a thing. The options are truly endless. And that brings us to our list. The best, most highly demanded freelancing skills out there today. And of course we'll start with number one, my favorite writer. Yes, topping the list is probably no surprise to you. It is my personal favorite and the freelancing business that I started over a decade ago. So the coolest thing about writing is that literally all businesses around the world need it and they need multiple forms of it, both copy and content. So what's the difference? Well, content writing is what creates brand loyalty and engagement, right? It's essential for businesses these days. It's basically content marketing and it's done through the form of blog posts, articles, social media captions, email newsletters, and a whole lot more. A content writers should be skilled at conversational and captivating writing. And of course bonus points if they have a general understanding of how keywords play into all of that with SEO. Copywriting, on the other hand, is what businesses lean on when it comes to generating leads, conversions and sales, usually through mediums like ads, sales pages, landing page, promotional emails, and even some social media captions. Now, copywriters also need to be skilled at conversational and captivating writing. But on top of that, they also need to have awareness of psychology, triggers and marketing and really how to conduct excellent buyer research. So if you've always dreamed of being a writer, you have a couple of options for making money with your words. And of course you'll want to make sure that you're subscribed to my channel, where I have helped so many rad humans from all over the world turn their passion for writing into a lucrative freelance business. All right, next on my list, number two, social media manager. If it's not on social media, does it even exist? Of course, I'm kidding. But not really. In our modern age of technology, smartphones and apps, all businesses really should have a social social media presence. That's because the majority of customers want to follow and engage with brands they love online. But the thing is, most businesses don't have the time, energy or skill to really keep up on social media the way it really needs to be done. And that's where this freelancing skill really comes in handy. Social media managers are responsible for managing a brand presence online. And of course, this can include developing strategies to increase reach, creating and overseeing social campaigns, staying on top of current trends, producing content, monitoring metrics like engagement level conversions and audience, and of course, advertising, actively posting and writing social media captions. So if you love all of those things like metrics and trends and social media, that might be the perfect freelance biz for you. All right, onto the next number three, a website designer. Now, not every business needs a website, but most, if not all, will majorly benefit from having one. And in today's online world, it doesn't just need to look good, but it needs to run smoothly and be fully optimized for mobile. I mean, there's nothing worse than when you view a website on your phone and it has glitchy images or text you can't read or buttons you can't click. Which means this is a freelancing skill that is in high demand. Website designers and developers are in charge of planning out, designing and coding websites. You'll need to have a good eye for visual design, plus a thorough understanding of design softwares like maybe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, JavaScript, HTML, all that super nerdy tech stuff that I don't really know anything about. Now if that sounds like a lot, but maybe it's something you're interested in. There are so many online classes where you can learn all those skills. So if that's something that interests you, I definitely recommend you check it out. All right, now moving on to number four on my list, copy editor who called the grammar police. If you are one of those people who catches literally every single grammar, spelling and language error, then this freelancing gig just might be for you. Copy editing is a job that every business needs, and that's because writers aren't necessarily good spellers. Or grammar experts I know. Shocking but truly the best copywriters are focusing on more of the flow and the strategy and less on like those little nitty gritty things. So that means that quite often businesses not only need to hire excellent writers and copywriters that can engage with their audience, build rapport and make them sales, but they also need someone to copy edit what their writers have written. As a copy editor, you'd be in charge of things like correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax, ensuring consistency and spelling hyphenation, numerals, fonts and capitalization, or flagging ambiguous or factually incorrect statements. Basically, you are the person going through everything with a fine tooth comb to ensure there are zero spelling, punctuation or grammatical errors before the writing is ready to be viewed by the public. You could copy edit everything from blogs and sales pages to novels and magazines, or even online courses and programs. All right, now onto the final freelancing gig on my list. Number five Virtual Assistant Are you the queen of communication? Can you type faster than you think? Are you a multitasking master? Could your organization and time management skills make even the most type a person green with envy? If you said yes, then a freelance virtual assistant or VA job might be the one for you. VAs are typically hired to handle admin tasks for an individual, brand or a company. These tasks often vary, but can include everything from scheduling appointments, making phone calls, data entry, arranging and booking travel, bookkeeping, organizing emails and inboxes, managing social media, or even creating content. Each business, of course, will have their own individual needs and desires, so this is a gig that isn't quite as cut and dry as maybe some of the others, but it is a gig that is in very high demand and can be incredibly fun and rewarding depending on who your clients are. So what do you think? Are you ready to ditch your desk and embrace the freedom of freelancing? The good news is that there has never, ever been a better time or an easier time than right now to start your online freelancing business.
