Costco Recalls Butter?! | Bitcoin Hits Almost $90k! | Biz To Biz Podcast
13 Nov 2024 · 30 min
In this informal Biz to Biz podcast episode, hosts Justin and Allen (referred to as SPEAKER B) cover a wide range of timely topics. They begin with a Veterans Day tribute, sharing personal family military stories. They then discuss the latest Google algorithm update and speculate it’s AI‑driven. The conversation shifts to Facebook’s cannabis advertising rules, clarifying that only educational content is allowed. They joke about Elon Musk’s upcoming Tesla e‑bike and debate its practicality. A major Costco butter recall is examined, with the hosts questioning labeling practices and lactose intolerance. Nutrition takes center stage as they compare grass‑fed beef, veggie‑based meat alternatives, and sugary cereals, noting ingredient complexity. Bitcoin’s price swing near $90 k is highlighted, with both hosts expressing cautious interest. The duo analyzes Netflix’s tiered pricing, the new “pause” feature across streaming services, and the broader trend of subscription bundling. Finally, they touch on TV shows – the upcoming season of Yellowstone and the latest episode of The Penguin – before signing off. The tone is conversational, humorous, and occasionally critical, offering personal anecdotes, opinions, and brief market observations.

You are now watching the Biz to Biz podcast with Allen and Justin. Yo, what's up everybody? It's Justin live from B2B Vault, the Biz to Biz podcast sponsored by Nationwide Payment Systems, hosted by this guy, the Galileo of payment processing himself, Allen Kopelman. What's up, bro?
We had the day off yesterday. Veterans Day.
Shout out to the veterans.
Yep. Thank you to all who have served and serving now. Protecting, protecting us.
It's for the people who served, not for the people who are serving now.
Okay.
People are not veterans yet.
No, they're not veterans yet. Yeah.
But yeah, a lot of people get the Veterans Day and Memorial Day confused very bad.
They don't know. We should just have—
People need to understand. No, they shouldn't just have, they should definitely have more days to celebrate the the military. Yes, Memorial Day. But, uh, yeah, Memorial Day is for the people that died, right, in combat, not, you know, survived. Yeah, so when you're wishing somebody Happy Memorial Day, doesn't make sense. No, and also it's quite offensive because obviously they survived and they have probably lost a lot of fallen comrades if they were in battle. So they tend to not, you know, they don't like that. But yeah, happy Veterans Day to all the veterans out there. I talked to my uncle yesterday. He was a Green Beret in Vietnam.
Wow.
Tunnel rat. He used to crawl in tunnels in his skivvies with a knife and grenade and a flashlight.
That's crazy.
And it's trusty. That's it.
Yeah, I know. That's crazy. I've heard stories about that.
Yeah, he's got a picture of this kid with like, he's bear hugging. I've talked about it before. It's, he's bear hugging like 13 kids from over there. Like literally, that's, this guy is, he's massive. He's, yeah, he's whatever. Shout out to Uncle Jerry. He's insane. I'm telling you, he's never, he does not tell stories about Much.
Yeah, most people don't like to talk about it. I had my great uncle Alexander, we used to call him Uncle Allen, and he fought in World War II in like the desert in Africa.
Ouch.
Which was like crazy against Rommel.
Yeah.
And my other—
Rommel.
Rommel.
Okay.
And then my other uncle, my mom's brother, Uncle Joe, who just passed away this past year. He was in World War II and he actually fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Yeah. And that was pretty crazy.
My grandfather was a— he dropped bombs on Nazis. I love that guy. He did not talk about it either because he was pissed because they took away his wings because there was a cockpit fire or something happened. And one of his eyes, he didn't have 20/20 vision anymore. And when in the military, if you don't have 20/20, you can't fly the plane. Right. So he became like a mechanic and then he was apparently he was working like for the Secret Service, like he was undercover trying to find Nazis. It's pretty cool. But he never talked about that either.
Yeah, my uncle's never really talked about the war.
That's how he met my grandmother. My grandmother was working in a place. She was a type, you know, she was typing letters.
Yeah.
And that's how they met.
Cool.
All right. So, yeah, man, big news today though, man. Google updated the algo for the final time of the year. So we'll see what happens with that. I don't know. They don't, you know, they don't sound like they tell you what they're, uh, what they're up to. No, they don't. They just let you know that the updates, it's live. And if you've been up to some shady shit, expect results.
Yeah. So I don't know.
I mean, I don't know what they're, you know, targeting or what they're trying to fix. You know, I mean, I'm sure it has a lot to do with AI. I'm assuming, but with AI and all this stuff that's happening, I think that's probably one of the bigger things that they have to update for. I mean, I don't know, you know, we never know until a couple of weeks and then you start realizing, oh, okay.
Well, we also see that Facebook relaxed its policy on advertising cannabis?
No, they did not.
They did not.
I explained this. I tried to explain it to you. So where did they relax? So they didn't relax shit.
Okay.
As long as you're educating. So you can't promote product, right? Cannabis in any form or fashion.
Okay.
But you've always been able to promote education. Like Normal was able to pro— you know, you could see those type of things, or if you're voting yes, you're able to see those advertisements because it's not selling a product.
Oh, okay.
You know what I mean? It's just, it's educating on cannabis. And for us, I mean, it was weird for me that they let it fly because it's, in a sense, it's a product, right? But I mean, It's just, I guess it's the way I worded the article.
I guess it's educational.
It's definitely educational because it talks about cannabis and the point of sale and it's just something like that. So, I mean, the ad is doing okay. It says it's got 3 calls. Is that true?
We did get one. We got, yeah, we got a couple of people that did text in about it and haven't made an appointment yet, but they texted. There you go.
So I mean, that's, that's pretty cool. So that's— I don't know, we've tried doing it in the past and it never got approved. So maybe it's because we finally were able to verify the business in Facebook, right? Maybe. I don't know. I don't know. There's just so many guidelines when it comes to advertising on Facebook, right? Like if they don't like the image or whatever, like, don't worry, they Yeah, like the wording is very important, not just for Facebook, but for everybody. But yeah, I mean, and yeah, so that was cool. That was awesome. But you see Elon Musk is about to launch an e-bike, bro.
The Tesla bike. Yeah, it's crazy. He's always making new stuff, man.
I want that thing. It looks pretty— I don't know, I don't want it. I want it, but I don't want it. It's like probably too fast for me.
I wonder if it's like— well, it depends how fast it'll go, depending if you could take it on the street. I mean, I see these people, they take like a regular—
not a motorcycle, huh? It's not a motorcycle, right?
But I mean, I see bicycle, I know, but I see people on a regular bicycle and then they have like a big square thing on it. I have one at the house that it's like a motor, right? And they can— they're going 35, 40 miles an hour.
Mine goes 30. I just haven't, um I don't know if it's safe. Mine's safe.
No, no, I'm just saying, like, you're going as fast as a car basically on those.
My brakes are pretty— I have like these, they got those brakes are like, they're not like bicycle brakes, right? They're like brakes, right? Like a brake pad. That's what is on the bike.
No, no, but I'm just saying, like, they go pretty fast. I was—
yeah, I was driving it last night because, uh, I was going to actually ride it to work this this morning, preparing myself for the, for this change. So yeah, but I chickened out. I chickened out. I just, I'm not ready. I didn't like the, the, my transport. My backpack was packed nicely. It's just, I feel like I can do better. And I think I need to get some, uh, those saddlebags.
Yeah.
Because then that way I can put my lunch in there, I can put my water in there, and I can put some other items.
Oh yeah, I see people on those things and they have like a big like basket.
Yes, that's what I'm saying. That's what I'm about to do and put the saddlebags in the basket on the back. It, you know, it'll— I won't be able to drive as fast.
I mean, I see people going to the grocery store on those things and they put all their groceries in there.
Yeah, it's not gonna be bad.
Yeah.
I mean, I got my, I got my helmet, I got everything that I need. I got a poncho, so I'm good to go. I just need to, I need to, I do need, everyone was so worried about me, so I, I need to make sure that I'm confident in that. You know what I mean?
Right.
That's a big, from driving every day and going to the gym, uh, you know, it's, is, I do have a bit of equipment that I need. To bring, right? So there's that. Excuse me.
All right, so here's the crazy story. See what you think about this. Costco gets notified that they have to recall 80,000 pounds of butter that they sold because the FDA tweaked something in their rules and they didn't list milk as an ingredient, but butter is made from milk and it's not listed properly and they're making them recall it.
So what's on the ingredient list though?
Says milk, but it's not listed the right way.
Milk enzymes? I don't know, bullshit.
I don't know. Like, there's a whole fight now and People bought it, don't want to return it because they say what, there's nothing wrong with it other than what it says. They're like, oh, they can't sell it anymore because people have allergy to milk. Well, if you had an allergy to milk, you're not going to have butter. I don't know. So whatever.
I mean, if you're lactose intolerant, I don't know, do people eat butter if they're lactose intolerant?
No, you can't really have it unless you take a pill. Like Lactaid or something? Yeah, you can't take, you can't have cheese, you can't have milk, you can't have anything.
So I was, I always thought I was lactose intolerant, but it's just milk just makes me use the bathroom, that's all. It's not like I'm diarrhea, diarrhea.
Exactly, some people get a lot more sick from it.
Yeah.
But I don't know why they can't just put a sticker on it. Be done, but I guess—
but cheese definitely doesn't agree with me. I'm just, you know, like, like pizza, you know what I mean?
So I guess they're gonna have to repackage this. I think it really depends on the quality for me though, like the quality of anything.
Like, for those, for those that don't know, I've been dabbling into the organic grass-fed beef, uh, world, right, as of lately, um, because I've been doing some research and As men get older, they need a lot of protein, right? High protein diet, you know, high protein, high fiber, low everything else. Low carbs, low bullshit, low sugars, everything. Keep that at a bare minimum. And a vegetarian diet that, you know, it's hard to get all that protein. So I've been eating a lot more grass-fed beef. I had a burger this weekend.
Ooh, a burger. Rocky loves burgers.
Dude. I haven't had— I didn't put cheese on it because I did, you know, I like— I love, you know, I used to love a cheeseburger, right? But again, cheese is just— it's fat, a lot of fat. Yeah, cheese. So, man, but I had a cheeseburger, bro, with, with the onion, the tomato, the lettuce on the top, a little bit of ketchup.
I'm a mustard man.
I like ketchup. Sometimes I'll have ketchup and mustard on my burger.
I like the Gulden's brown mustard.
Oh, you gotta have, I mean, I don't like spicy mustard on my burger. I'm, you know, whatever. But yeah, that was delicious, bro. I mean, I'm glad. I was just talking to one of my best friends from high school, my brother. What up, Tom? And he was telling me about like, You sent me a video about this guy talking about being a vegan and how it was killing him.
Right?
And I, you know, I always knew, I have always heard about kale and you're not supposed to eat it raw. It's terrible.
Kale?
Yes.
I always get, I eat it cooked.
You can't eat kale raw because it has, it's so sharp that it literally cuts your stomach lining. Right?
Yeah.
It's literally, it's just whatever. And that's something that I don't know if it was an old hippie who told me that, like I'm talking a long time ago. Like you're not supposed to eat kale raw. You gotta cook it like spinach.
Yeah, I cook.
And so that's how I always had it. I never, and so I was just telling him like, yeah man, you know, about 2 years ago I realized how fat and overweight I was.
You know what I mean?
And it's just, I'm just, when I started looking at like the meat substitutes, you know, like the veggie burger, the veggie brat, the veggie beef crumbles.
I was eating that stuff for a while and then I got away from it 'cause it was a lot.
I probably, I haven't had, like, I used to eat that almost every day. You know, like that would be my lunch every day and incorporated in my lunch, like spaghetti, you know, whatever it was. And so I haven't eaten that in almost probably 6, 7 months.
Yeah, but I was—
I mean, I did have a, a veggie brat this weekend just because I love them. They're delicious. You put them on the grill, there's nothing like them. And I'm not eating pork ever.
No, I don't eat pork. I'm just saying I read about like, they're saying now like some of it has too much soy, some of it has too much pea protein.
I mean, it'd be fine if it was just that, but there's 400 ingredients in this shit.
Yeah, that's the problem.
You know, I was at, my daughter was asking me like, what's, how come you stopped? And I went and grabbed the, I had the package of ground beef in the car and I said, what does this say? She's like, 100% ground beef. Right. And there's nothing else in there. Water, right? Water, whatever it says on there, water and ground beef for the packaging inside the packaging. And I showed her the back of the veggie burger. I said, can you pronounce any of that shit?
Exactly.
Like once you get past the first 3 words of ingredients, after that it's like, ex-lovis miseris.
Yeah, there's so many chemicals, it's crazy.
Benzonite, citric acid, monosodoglutamate.
So here on a subject, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. So here's something on the subject of food. So I see a video this morning of these people on the news where my daughter works, and they're talking about cereal. So in Cedar Rapids, actually have the Quaker Oats as their factory there. So when they make like the Cinnamon Crunch cereal, the whole city smells like cinnamon crunch.
Oh yeah.
When they make the whatever cereal they make, the whole city smells.
It's insane. That's cool.
So they were talking about, have you seen the new cereal come out for the Kelce brothers? So they have the Kelce Mix. It's a new cereal. I can't even imagine the sugar content. It's Reese's Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Lucky Charms all mixed together.
That's just disgusting.
With a picture of it, it just doesn't even sound good. Well, whatever.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch with Lucky Charms and Reese's Puffs. So you got chocolate peanut butter, cinnamon toast, And then I don't know what— and marshmallows.
Yeah, marshmallows. What's their picture on the cereal box? I guess if you're a fan of— I don't know— the Kelce brothers, you can get some Kelce mix.
Well, speaking of cereal though, I was reading that the kids who eat like Rice Krispie Puffs and all that other bullshit in the morning are healthier than the kids who eat like a burger, something from McDonald's every day.
They're healthier.
Yep. They get more because there's shit inside of the cereal, right? At least, right? Yeah, like there's— it's, it's produced to provide children with calcium, vitamin A, B, C, whatever it is that is in there, right? Yeah, plus all the other stuff, the fiber, etc.
I guess if you're not eating stuff that has a bunch of food dyes in it, then you're better off.
And then you, then you're talking about a sausage patty from McDonald's. Who knows what's in that shit? It's definitely not cheese.
And how long has it been frozen for?
And it's that bread. They said it ain't bread.
So yeah, I mean, let's not get into fast food.
I don't know, I don't eat it. So, so the other thing to eat is though Fridays, and that's It's really not fast food. It's like deli, right?
It's a deli. But that— yeah, but we should get a salad. You get a piece of salmon, you can get chicken.
Yeah, I mean, it's fresh food. It's like a restaurant.
Yeah, it's a restaurant. So can you believe over the weekend Bitcoin was close to $90,000? This— today it's down to $86,000.
Yeah, that's what I was— I meant when I said $76,000, I've seen it at $76,000, but yeah, I've seen it at $86,000., but that's crazy.
I mean, they're talking about it might break $100 grand by January now. It's kind of crazy. I mean, there's definitely people day trading that thing. The whales are like day trading that up and down.
I mean, if I had one, I'd sell it right now.
Yeah, exactly. So I have a fraction.
Why wait? I don't know.
I, I don't know. I have a fraction of one. I'm just leaving it sit there.
I would.
So here's the thing, you know, we've talked about this on the podcast about the, uh, click to cancel rule. So now they came out with a whole bunch of, uh, there's like a news article over the weekend when I was watching like the business news. So they were discussing Netflix and all these streaming services and how all— how many people are streaming. So they said Netflix has, I guess, more than, more than 100 million users, right? So out of the 100 million plus users they have, 70 million are signed up for the $6.99 plan, which is the one that allows— that gives you ads. So you have ads, right? And then it doesn't allow for very many users and downloads and all that. And then the plan for— the next plan's $15.49. That gives you like a few users, many devices, you can download, but you still got ads. No ads in the $15.49, there's no ads, it's ad-free.
Why is my Netflix $30?
And then the next plan, because it— every time if you add on users, it's another like $7.
Exactly.
See, or $5. And then the next plan up is $22 $20 a month, but it gives you more users. So you got to look at like what they're—
mine is $31 a month, bro.
You might want to review the—
I, I know who's on there. No, no, children.
I know, but you might go up to the $22 plan, gives you more users, less money. I don't know.
So now they said they don't let you downgrade. No, you can't do that.
You would be upgrading.
But I'm— I think I'm at the If I'm paying $31, I got to be at the top of the top.
I don't know, you might be on the $15.49 plus users instead of the $22 plan plus users.
I'm gonna have to ask my wife because she's on that shit and not like whatever family plan. That's gonna be not okay.
Okay, well, that's just what I saw. They were discussing it, then I looked online and confirmed it. So then it says I pay for it, so they said there's like a big trend now Subscribe, watch, cancel. There's like a big trend going on, right? So people subscribe, they watch the show they want to watch. When they're done with that show, there's no more— there's not another show for them to watch, they cancel. So they're talking about now Netflix and other, other streaming services are— instead of people letting them cancel, now they're gonna— they're starting to add a pause feature so you can pause it for Hulu's letting people pause for up to 12 weeks. Another one, you can pause— some of them, you know, a lot of those, uh, 3 months, 6 months.
Network's been doing it for a long time. Yeah, yeah, like Starz, they've been doing that for a long time, right? Um, a bunch of networks. So they're saying that's smart that they're doing it.
They said it's— they said it's much better for them to enter— to put this pause feature on there so that they can maintain the customer and the customer doesn't have to go you sign up for the service. They also talked about more password sharing.
But what does that— what's the real benefit of pausing it? Because most of the networks were still charging you a small fee.
Well, they're pausing it. You're not getting charged for, let's say, you're taking a break for 3 months, so you don't get charged for 3 months. Then you go back in and they— yeah, but that's—
so people aren't going to do that because First of all, a show comes on and then it is not on for another year, two, maybe three years.
Well, then they'll cancel.
That's what I'm saying.
That's what I'm— that's what I'm saying. They're just trying to like put that stopgap in there.
That's just smart business.
And I think that other companies, not just streaming services, but people who sell makeup or sell clothes, any kind of subscription-based business should consider this, uh, doing a pause feature for their clientele. You because then the clientele doesn't have to go back in and re-sign up. Let people pause the service. I recently had to like, I didn't want to get something in the mail anymore because I had too much of it. And I was like, I don't want this. I had to go in and at first I tried to pause it and then they were like, oh, if you pause, then you might as well cancel. I'm like, whatever. I just canceled it. Because I'm like, that's just crazy. Every time you have to go back in and reactivate. So that's another thing that they're doing is when people cancel, they just let them cancel, but then allowing them to go back and reactivate the account versus going back in and having to recreate a whole new account.
Yeah, I don't know. I don't see a lot of people doing it. Some people might just because, but a lot of people are already so worried about their information being stolen or hacked or something. If I'm not using something, I'm gonna deactivate it. You know what I mean? Like, there's no purpose in me doing a pause, no.
And then they said that they think we're gonna see more bundling. And even like the cable companies and the streaming companies who do like all the streaming.
There was just a big article about the cable companies trying to figure out what their next move is.
Yeah, because they're talking about these cable companies need to figure out how to bundle better so that they don't have all these people switching their plans all the time and deactivating services.
I mean, I mean, I really don't know many people who have, um, cable television.
Yeah, I have cable. I wish I would— I would like to get off cable, but it's like so crazy when I go to somebody's house and they're using like Sling TV or something like that. It's like super confusing. Then they don't have channels and stuff like that.
My dad, you know, he's pretty much mastered it. It was a pain in the ass and it does take some time to figure out like, okay, I have to pay for this because this is what I watch, right? And then the sports stuff. So this is where I got to figure out the sports stuff, right? You know, and once you figure that out,, you know, it, it gets a lot easier.
Right.
But I understand the frustration when you're first trying to figure out, okay, I want to use Peacock because this is where I watch, that's where the shows that I watch are on Peacock or Hulu or Paramount or HBO Max or, you know, all the other stars, you know what I'm saying? Right. So once you figure that out, because it is kind of hard because you don't know where like the, the, the actual show comes from anyway. Right. Right. If you have regular TV or, you know, like cable, you're just gonna be like, okay, it's on cable, this is what it is. But, you know.
Yeah, it's hard to figure out where is the show. Then the show moves from one channel to another channel, which happens. So one of my favorite shows that hasn't been on for I think like 2 years now is Yellowstone, which is the Kevin Costner cowboy, killing people nonstop all the time. So I haven't gotten into it. Okay. So I'm not a big fan of Western stuff. No, no. So what's modern Western?
Still Western.
Okay. So basically, like, I guess redneck hillbilly in the country with cattle.
Right.
So I guess for whatever reason, horseshit, Kevin Costner decides he doesn't want to do the show anymore.
So no disrespect to anybody that does that shit. Y'all are mad.
Listen, I grew up watching Gunsmoke and Bonanza and all that.
I like Young Guns.
That was a good movie.
It's a great movie.
So I'm sure you're good.
The Bad, the Ugly. Yes.
Oh, that's Clint Eastwood. He was an excellent cowboy.
What's the other one that I really liked?
What about John Wayne?
Fistful of Dollars.
Another Clint Eastwood movie, bro.
That movie changed my life.
Clint Eastwood was a badass. Let's all— so, .357 Punk. Well, when he was Dirty Harry. Yeah, he had a lot of good movies. Clint Eastwood was one of the originals.
He turned out to be an asshole.
But he was a badass. I mean, now today—
he's a badass in movies, right?
That's what I mean. It was a badass.
I mean, I guess nobody really messed with him either because because he's Clint Eastwood, but whatever. So not Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris will whoop Clint Eastwood's ass.
That would be a good fight. I mean, this week we got that fight coming up.
Mike Tyson.
Mike Tyson.
And they got Mike Tyson breaks his teeth, bro.
And they have like a whole preview going for it. So the first episode of Yellowstone starts in the first like 2 minutes.
Have you watched The Penguin yet?
Not yet. Let me just finish about Yellowstone. We're almost done with the podcast. They kill off Kevin Costner in the first, like, 2 minutes of the show.
Spoiler alert.
Well, everybody's seen it. Everybody was like—
not everybody.
Okay, well, I didn't.
Okay, so Kevin Costner got killed off in the first episode, and yeah, like, so he obviously was done. He was like, yo, I'm done with this shit. You ain't paying me enough. I want more money.
Now, now I guess the main character is going to be the Beth girl, the daughter. So she's like the biggest bitch on TV.
Oh my God.
So she's gonna kill everybody. I don't know who's dying.
The husband.
The husband. Her husband. Yeah, yeah, she has a husband, Rick. Well, he's the one's gonna do the killing, but she's the one.
Oh, she's—
she's gonna be—
she's the point.
Yeah, she's the point person now. So they're gonna be like the main focus. Everything's gonna go—
all I know is, is that the Penguin, the last episode last night, that shit was mine. Oh, and they threw out the Bat-Signal at the very end.
Uh-oh, I'm gonna have to watch that.
The, the DC Universe is, is definitely making a comeback. Watch that shit. That's the pod. Make sure you subscribe to the channel for us, please. Thank you.
Have a great week. Peace out. Peace.
