Andrew Lamb explains how he saves time and money running sober living homes by using virtual assistants (VAs). In this excerpt he describes hiring remote workers (example: Philippines) to perform menial or administrative tasks at far lower hourly rates than in expensive U.S. markets like California, enabling smoother operations and cost savings.

Something else that we like to do is work with virtual assistants. So if you are not familiar you can literally hire people from all over the world to do things for you. I know people who have hired virtual assistants in the Philippines to just watch their security cameras. I personally don't do that. I have enough of a team to handle that here in the States but these are folks who typically going to get some kind of arbitrage on meaning Instead of paying $25 an hour in California you can pay three or four dollars an hour in the Philippines. It's a good living for someone in the Philippines to do just kind of menial tasks, maybe data entry, things like that. So we do have virtual assistants who work in business and that actually helps things run really smoothly. Make sure that you know certain things stay updated when otherwise they wouldn't be or cost an arm and a leg in the United States especially in expensive California where I am just to make sure simple things get done.
