A short YouTube video (Northern California Real Estate Journal) where host Andrew Lamb interviews Brett from Indoor Restore about residential mold. They cover how to spot mold (peeling paint, bowed/wet-feeling walls, visible growth), what 'black mold' means (toxigenic molds that affect people differently and can exacerbate allergies/asthma), recommended inspection/sampling, remediation steps, and post-remediation coverage. The company offers whole-home sampling (~12 samples) for under $400 and provides a 10-year warranty on remediation with an optional product-based 5-year extension (total 15 years).

Hi, this is Andrew Lamb with Northern California Real Estate Journal. And we just wanted to thank you for joining us on our video blog today. I'm joined here by Brett from Indoor Restore. They do mold remediation. And just really wanted to get into a couple of questions we've been getting recently about mold. What is it? Black mold? Should we be afraid of it? And what are the signs we should look for? You know, what do you do when you have a company come in to take care of mold and then how are you covered from then on after the work is done? Brett, we just wanted to thank you for joining us today.
Of course.
And really just wanted to ask, you know, what are those things that people should look for when they think they might have mold in their home?
Okay. The first thing any homeowner should look for is signs on the walls. It's typically the easiest place for mold to grow or water intrusion to happen. Look for peeling paint, maybe some bowing in the walls, things that look like that. Hey, there's something behind it that's affecting that wall bubbling up paint. If you're buying a home, typically fresh paint, something that looks a little wet, little moisture on the wall, anything that's wet to the touch or a little moisture on it, that's always something that can be a side of a mold issue.
Side of mold. Okay, now let's say you have obvious mold growing. Can you explain what black mold is? And if what even what you're seeing.
Is that type of mold, black mold specifically is just, it's a toxigenic mold. It affects every person differently. There's more than one type that just is the most popular one that you hear on the media. There's ones that are airborne, there's ones that are meant for walls. Everybody reacts a little differently. Typically it's an it affects allergies, affects asthma, people with respiratory problems, it affects those and can heighten them. If you believe there's really an issue, the first thing to do is get an inspection done to confirm it is it's not just dirt on your wall. Make sure you get an inspection to confirm if it is black mold, if it is some other type of mold, and then take it from there. Typically, if you've been living there for a good amount of time and you're okay, you'll be alright to be there. Unless it's something that's brand new. If there's a recent leak that happened and it's kind of grown a lot of mold in the last week or so and it's affecting your body and how you're reacting to it, then it might be time to get that inspection and get out of the house.
Okay, so assuming that mold is found, you guys do samples throughout the house and actually at a very affordable cost of less than $400 for about 12 samples, which covers the whole home. Once we do that, we determine there is mold, you guys come in to do the remediation work and get rid of it. What's that process from then on, are they covered after that work is done?
Yes, after our guys come in and do remediation, they will. Basically the whole house is then decontaminated and it is a clean house. Once all that work is done, we have a 10 year warranty on all of our work and then we use different products if you choose to do the restoration work. And that product will actually extend that warranty by five years. So when we're leaving, you end up with a clean house, no mold, no issues, and it's got a 15 year warranty behind it. Awesome.
Got it. Well, thanks. I think if anyone has specific questions about mold or mold remediation, they can definitely give you a call. We'll have your contact info here for them.
