Building an AI-Forward Culture: Thrive with AI, Don't Just Adopt It

A short YouTube talk by Anthony Onesto (May 31, 2025) arguing organizations must build an "AI-Forward" culture so all employees contribute to and benefit from AI. Onesto presents data-driven benefits (faster coding with GitHub Copilot, higher ENPS at Weave, improved product-market performance) and a people-centered playbook: identify AI champions, tier literacy programs, secure executive buy-in, operationalize AI into workflows, run hackathons, and continuously measure productivity, employee satisfaction, and innovation to prove ROI.

Everyone, it's Anthony Onesto and this is my latest drop for AI in HR today. Subscribe do not miss a Future article. It's time to build a culture where every employee contributes and benefits from our AI powered future. Building an AI Forward Culture why do some teams thrive while others lag behind? It's a pressing question as artificial intelligence rapidly reshapes business. AI automates tasks and offers deep insights. Yet yet its adoption is often uneven across employee groups. This isn't just a tech issue. It's a critical challenge to unlock AI's transformative potential. We need to deliberate a strategy to cultivate an AI Forward culture, ensuring uniform adoption and equipping everyone to leverage these powerful tools effectively. In this post I will review how to build an AI Forward culture in your organization, because the future is AI driven and falling behind is not an option. All right, so let's look at the numbers. The tangible impact of AI adoption is already clear. Productivity gains are critical. AI streamlines workflows. GitHub Copilot users, for example, completed coding tasks 55.8% faster. What this does is it frees up skilled individuals for complex problem solving. Employee satisfaction AI can reduce mundane tasks, boosting morale. Weave saw a 95% increase in their employee net promoter score, or ENPS, after implementing AI and predictive analytics and the last piece of data AI fuels new products and services. Organizations report market fit and product performance improvements of up to 60% with AI integration. The challenge of AI adoption has been an issue, and it's more than just tech data. Despite compelling benefits, AI adoption is often uneven. Barriers include a lack of awareness about AI's practical applications, fear of job replacement, and simple resistance to change. Many are comfortable with the old ways. These hurdles don't mean inconsistent AI use. They lead to reduced efficiency, missed innovation, and a widening skills gap. As I've said, change is constant. So building an AI Forward culture focuses on people. So what are some strategies for building an AI Forward culture? Well, it's a people thing, of course. Tackling these challenges requires more than just new software. It demands a cultural shift. First, identify and empower AI champions. These are your enthusiastic early adopters in your company. Give them a platform to share their successes and mentor others. They are your most effective internal advocates. Tier your AI literacy programs. Not everyone must be an AI developer, but a baseline understanding is absolutely crucial. Customize your trainings for different roles. Engineers need AI skills that are different from those in sales or hr. Grab some quick wins and shared goals. Set achievable AI adoption targets. Celebrate Successes publicly to build momentum and demonstrate tangible benefits. Encouraging others to engage executive leadership buy in is always a must. It's non negotiable. Leaders must visibly champion AI. Appoint AI coaches for ongoing support. Operationalize AI embedded into your existing workflows. Make it a daily tool, not just some special. Integrate AI in your training like ChatGPT usage into onboarding to set the right tone from day one and ensure managers are role modeling AI use and then spark creativity. Conduct hackathons, encourage hands on lear and problem solving. That's a great way to foster that entrepreneurial mind shift. Then you measure the business impact of AI adoption. Cultivating this culture is vital. So how do we know whether or not it's working? Continuous measurement is key. Track your key performance indicators, assess their effectiveness and guide data driven decisions. The metrics highlighted earlier productivity, employee satisfaction and innovation are central to tracking these productivities. Increased productivity for instance. What you can do here is monitor ongoing time saved, increased output error reduction. Are these gains sustained as AI becomes embedded? You could look at improved employee satisfaction. Track your ENPS scores, your qualitative feedback. What are you hearing the turnover rates? Is AI contributing to a better work environment in the long term? Enhanced innovation Track new ideas Is AI driving projects? What's the success rate of the projects? Is AI accelerating your innovation pipeline? Diligent tracking demonstrates AI's return on investment and helps refine your strategy, ensuring your AI investments deliver maximum value through a strong feedback loop. So what's the future? It's AI powered folks and it is a team sport. In my experience, driving AI within organizations and hearing from folks like you. Fostering an AI forward culture is an ongoing commitment to learning and adapting and empowering your people. You can easily identify AI champions and deliver tailored training to your organization, but you must also ask folks to share their experiences and celebrate wins. A key and often overlooked piece is getting executive support too. Measure your productivity, measure satisfaction, look at innovation and those things clearly show AI's business impact. Listen. AI's transformation potential is immense but realized only through organizational wide embrace. It's time to build a culture where every employee contributes to and benefits from our AI powered future. That's my drop. We'll see you next time.
