A creator reflects on skipping school for Modern Warfare 2 and grinding zombie marathons, then admits he can't play FPS games for more than ten minutes now. He's pivoting to YouTube comedy commentary instead, worried he'll burn out on that too before it pays off.
¡Hola!
Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that the Black Ops 3 teaser trailer just came out. I'm sure all your sub boxes are being spammed with trailer analysis from all your favorite YouTubers that are 30 minutes long, and you're definitely gonna sit down and watch the entire thing. I personally don't have next-gen, nor do I really enjoy FPS anymore, so I'm not gonna be buying Black Ops 3 and really don't care. But I will say this, the trailer looked pretty good and it is kinda hype. I wanted to talk about back in the times when Call of Duty was fun, like when Woody, Whiteboy, and Tmartn were pretty much gods, and when a new Call of Duty would drop, you would skip school to literally play it all day. For me, Modern Warfare 2 was the good old days, playing with real-life friends, going for nukes, and leveling up because rank actually mattered. When I used to see a 10th prestige, my thoughts were, "Dang, he is good at this game and I kinda wish I could be him." But now when I see a high level prestige, the only thing that pops in my mind is, man, does this kid even know what color the sun is? I can still remember how people would quit Call of Duty back in the days, and I would not be able to understand why anyone would want to do anything else with their life besides play Call of Duty. If we're being honest, I've been into triple digits on certain zombie maps, 100+ rounds. I've literally spent entire weekends on a single game of zombies. Put me in a zombie game now, and within an hour I'm gonna get bored and quit. I used to take pride in my KD always being higher than my GPA. Ahem, nerd. It's funny how over the past year I went from a gamma drinking COD no-life to now I can't really play an FPS for more than 10 minutes without being bored. The only reason I play any game on my PC is for YouTube. For some reason, I really like making commentaries and expressing myself. I've always been kind of the creative type, and I think that really shows in some of my recent videos. I really— I'm just really good at thinking outside of the box, and I've also been trying to add a comedic approach. I don't think that's the right word, but I've been trying to be funny in my videos because I know that's what gets people to stick around. And so add a little bit of comedy here and there will help people you know, watch longer periods of my videos and just subscribe and stay around longer. Well, that was off topic. I'm supposed to be talking about Call of Duty and I started talking about YouTube. Back on topic. I know I'm not the only one like this who no longer really likes CoD or any other FPS in general. It's just, earlier today I was playing CoD and I really wanted it to be fun, but it wasn't. I was forcing myself to play Black Ops 2, and it's sad because me a year ago would have skipped school if possible to play CoD all day. Now I know a lot of you are just thinking, "Yeah, you've matured, you've grown up, and you've grown out of video games." I wouldn't— I don't know if matured is the correct word because instead of spending that time on Xbox, I just spend it on YouTube watching stupid YouTube videos, so I don't know if I've actually matured or not. It's just, it kinda got me thinking because occasionally I come across a YouTube channel with over 100,000 subscribers, just tons of subs, and they ended up quitting YouTube. And I used to wonder, like, how could you ever quit YouTube when you used to love it so much? But then now I look at, like, how I used to love Call of Duty and how I can't stand it anymore. It's weird to think about because I actually really like doing YouTube right now. I'm having a ton of fun. But a couple years from now, I'm not gonna wanna do YouTube anymore. I'm gonna end up quitting even if I have a couple hundred thousand subscribers because it— I just— kinda like Call of Duty used to be. It's just not gonna be fun anymore. I'm not gonna be able to stand it. It's the last thing in the world I'm gonna wanna do. Um, I don't know. It's just weird to think about. But more than likely, that's gonna happen to me or anyone out there that does YouTube videos. But hey, hopefully I'll make a lot of money before then.
No exception to the rule, do what you do to get by 'cause the clock keeps ticking like a metronome and my thoughts keep telling me to get me home but my balls keep telling me to let me roam. Oh, just let me out. That clock keeps ticking like a metronome, and my thoughts keep telling me to get me home, but my balls keep telling me to let me out.
