People adapt to pleasure and quickly want more, whether it's relationships, houses, or money. This hedonic treadmill drives inequality because everyone chases the next level, never satisfied with what they have.
Chapters
Hedonistic adaptation means that you get used to like getting more and more pleasure in life, but then you have to seek even more of it, getting new pleasure from it. Like no matter where you put a female, you'll get used to it because you always want it more, you know. You buy a house, you want a bigger one. You do drugs, you want more drugs. But it also applies to like closing deals. You know, you close a deal for $1,000, cool. Then you get used to it, you want to close $10K deals, then $100K deals, then a million dollar deal. We could have just been content with just like, you know, touring and just climbing up the mountain with, you know, skis and it's going down. But no, then we were like, okay, you want to build gondolas to make it easier for us so we can go down more. It's also probably the reason why we can have so much, I guess, inequality inside it, because we're going on here like at the shittiest level, you get used to it. When you're the highest level, you get used to it as well. On both cases, just want 20% more.
