An engineer who applied to SpaceX sixteen times over four years now builds a fishing machine that uses computer vision to identify each fish and kill it instantly by spiking its brain. He says it's the only humane method that works at industrial scale.
Chapters
I actually applied to SpaceX 15 times until I got a job on the 16th time over 4 years, so. Spray a little bit, but that's it. You'll see the brain spike location at the top. Oh yeah. And then a gill cut. So we're spiking the fish in the brain and also bleeding it, which takes computer vision. So for every single species that comes into the machine, we figure out what species it is, and then within millimeter accuracy, we can find the brain location. So that all happens in like an instant. Every single fish that goes through the machine has a new set of coordinates of where its anatomical features are. This is the only form of humane harvest at scale that exists in the world.
