A brief spoken commentary by Asif Osman reflecting on a chapter from Jack Welch's book Winning. Osman highlights the hiring framework (the "four E's and a P") and focuses on one element—Execution—arguing that many plans fail because people cannot deliver results; he recommends learning from and becoming a person who reliably executes tasks.

My name is Asif Osman, and here I am once again to give you a thought on something I read. I've mentioned before. One of my favorite books is a book by Jack Welch called Winning. The main things that he talks about in that book. But one of the things that strikes me is a chapter in which he talks about hiring and how when we hire people, especially managers, we should look at the four E's and a P. Now, I'll explain in a later video what exactly those four E's are and the P. But I will talk to you right now about one of the E's. One of the E's stand for execution. And in my time I found so many people, and I've found myself struggling with this sometimes, is that we make so many plans, theoretical plans, we have so many meetings and we plan to do such and such, and we want to do such and such, but we find that people find it very difficult to actually make it happen. There's a saying in English, if you want something done, give it to a busy man. And I found that true so many times. People like to talk and we like to busy ourselves in nothings, things that don't really get us results. So when we are looking to learn from people, learn from people who are very good at execution, what that means is they can talk the walk or walk the talk and basically be able to deliver on results. So try to make yourself as one of those people who really know how to execute the tasks and get results.
