Hello, Boutique Hub community. Today we're going to talk about the most important flip in retail, and that is from summer to fall. I'm Joelle and I'm half of JR Visual Design, and today we're going to talk about when to do this, why it matters, and then how to successfully execute it in your boutique yourself. The transition from summer to fall is one of the biggest merchandising shifts that you will make all year. You're not just changing out your clothing, but you're changing out the complete shopping mindset of your customers. So they used to be shopping for tanks and denim shorts and for beach days, and now they're completely changed over to fall items. Cozy knits, denim, fall accessories, all of that good stuff. Your customers' needs have completely changed, so your store needs to reflect that as well. When your customer walks into your store, they need to be so inspired to shop for fall, and that starts with you doing a big seasonal changeover so that they can feel that as soon as they walk in. We often get asked when the best time is to do this flip, and we always suggest towards the end of August. So you always want to stay one step ahead of your customer, and they will be looking to shop for fall as the weather shifts into September. So if you stay one step step ahead of them and you create that immersive fall shopping experience in your store towards the end of August, you will not miss your mark and you will be one step ahead of them and be prepared for when they are ready to shop for fall. So how to execute this in your boutique. The first step is to refresh your store completely. So you really want your customers to walk in and feel completely different shopping experience. And that starts from a new fresh layout. So we want you to move all the fixtures around in your store, move all your floor fixtures around, Move your tables around, move all of your wall fixtures, reconfigure them. Oftentimes with fall, you will have thicker products, you'll bring jackets in, more denim, more accessories. So you really wanna make sure that your fixtures will accommodate that effectively. So moving them around really gives you the opportunity to think ahead, plan that out, put your fixtures where they need to be, change your wall fixtures as they need to. So really start with a fresh new layout and then you can start to merchandise it and create that really new, fresh, exciting space. For your customer. To merchandise, you really need to feature and prioritize your fall product. So we always suggest creating sections at the front of your store to reflect this. The entire front of your store— tables, hanging, wall fixtures— should be fall pieces, new arrivals. So when your customer walks in, they see the fall and they're fully immersed in that. You will still have some summer products, so our suggestion is to move it towards the back of the store. You can definitely put this on sale because you do want to push to get rid of it to make space for your fall product as it comes in, and then also just make floor space for even heading into holiday after that. So put sale summer towards the back of the store, put it on sale and try and get rid of it. However, if you do have pieces that would transition from summer to fall, definitely merchandise them in with your new fall arrivals. This will bring these pieces back to life and give them another opportunity to sell. So this means maybe you have a lacy top that you can layer with a leather jacket on top or cozy knit. This really just shows your customers how they can transition their summer pieces into fall, and it also will allow you to give them an opportunity to sell that product still at full price. The next thing you want to keep in mind is merchandising around what your customer will be shopping for. So in the fall, of course, we've talked about creating those new fall sections towards the front of your store. When your customer comes in to shop, This is where they can fully shop all of your fall product and be very directed to all of that. Another couple of sections that we like to make during the season is a denim shop. This is really great because they're going to be wanting to buy new denim for the fall. They're moving out their denim shorts and their skirts, and they're going towards nice denim cargo pants, things like that. So creating that denim shop is really effective during the season as well. You could do a little cozy section with nice sets and cozier pieces that they can wear at home because they are going to want to shift as the weather gets colder. So buying cozy sets, maybe staying at home a little bit more. We love the idea of doing a jacket bar as well. So as your jackets come in, they can go to one place to shop all of the jackets and kind of prepare for the fall and holiday season with buying them. We also love fall accessories. You're gonna be getting in a lot of really cute like leather pieces, suede, some boots. So creating a fall accessory area is really effective as well. The next thing you need to focus on is styling. Now fall is such a great opportunity to shift into so many layers, so many accessories. This really gives you an opportunity to style everything in your store. So style your mannequins, style the face-outs, style your moments on your tables, style your windows. The more layering pieces and the more styled your mannequins are, the more inspired your customers are to buy that entire look. And buy more pieces, which will create over— better overall sales. So style everything, layer pieces, cuff the sleeves, just show them a very cool way to style your pieces and to buy more. Next thing to really create that amazing fall shopping experience for your customer is to add in fall decor. So we do talk about changing your decor out seasonally often. It's such an effective marketing strategy because even if you just have a vase with fall foliage on your tables and on your upper shelves in your walls, that really just creates this fall shopping experience that they are looking for. So you're helping market your merchandise by adding this little decor moment, and you're really helping to market that season as a whole. So this can be as simple as we said, like putting a vase out with some fall foliage on your tables and in your upper displays, um, maybe changing out some artwork to putting some fall prints in them, just anything that will add that little fall touch to create that immersive shopping fall experience. So much to talk about refreshing your window and your exterior. If you don't have a window display, we have other options for you. But if you do have a window display, you absolutely need to be changing it out in the same timeline as well. When your customers are walking by or people are driving by, when you have that fall display set up, they know that they can come into your store to shop your fall arrivals. It gives them a taste of what you have, and it also markets your product right off the bat. So change out your window displays, to fall. This could be something as simple again as some fall foliage. You could put a decal on your window that says fall new arrivals inside with some beautifully styled mannequins. If you don't have a window, you could put a nice sandwich board outside that says new fall arrivals inside. Maybe put a planter outside with some fall foliage. Anything that communicates to your customer, we have fall arrivals inside, come shop with us for fall. And it really just gets that foot traffic in and gets people excited for what you have to offer. And the last thing is, if you have any improvements that you want to make to your Make them now. So this means if you wanted to update your lighting, maybe wanted to refresh your fitting rooms, maybe you wanted to add more fixtures or make a little space of your store more functional, this is the time to do it because you are heading into your busiest season yet, which is the most profitable season, and that's fall into winter into holiday.
