Hello everyone. Today we are going to look at filing your GST and QST return via Remy Quebec's My account for Business, also known as CliqSecure. And if you have your business located in Quebec, then you are actually required to file through the Revenue Quebec portal because Revenue Quebec actually administers both GST and qst. So this is slightly different from the rest of Canada who would use CRA's My Business account to file their GST HST returns. You can also use online banking to file the full return. That will be the subject of another video. There's also lots of information on that on through an Internet search where you can see how to do it just directly through online banking. So let's look at how to to do this. I'm in my account for business. I've logged in and now I will go to just this, this front page and here I can see that, you know, unfortunately I have some late consumption taxes to file. That is the GST and qst. And hopefully in your case you will not be late, you will file them on time. If you click on this little plus button you can actually see the deadlines to file. So I have a couple of late returns which I'm going to go ahead and file now. Again, ideally in your case, this is the only thing that is left and you have till July 2 to file in this case because this is a corporation and they have a March 31st year end.
And you can see that over here. If you are a corporation with a December 31st year end, your deadline to file would have been April 17th, 2nd. So let's look at how to do this. I'm going to file this return. So I click here.
And it will take me to the return section.
And you'll see it's going to, you know, take you through a very short interview and you enter the amounts. This is actually a very straightforward and easy process. There's a couple of things to note that I will point out. So do you want to complete a short return? We are going to say yes. If you say no, it opens up some other schedules. But for the purposes of this tutorial we are only talking about a regular business that is not involved in building and reconciliation.
Recaptured input, tax credits. So we're going to click on yes, click on next.
And then here you will see the return.
Fields pop up and basically you just really have to enter the relevant box amounts. The first question is do you want to report different types of sales or supplies and what this relates to? If you click on yes is that if you have sales to most commonly to customers outside of Canada, you would include the amounts that relate to the customers outside of Canada in this box. And additionally if you have associates, businesses that are associated companies, you would include those here. Taxable supplies is a box that we're interested in and that reflects the amount of sales that you have made on which you charge tax, gst, HST and or qst. So you are going to put the total amount and so the total of this box in this box should essentially agree to what's on your financial statements under the sales line. And this is something they might look at and if there's a difference they might want to know why. So in my case I don't have any exempt supplies or zero rated exports. So I'm just going to include the taxable supplies amount and I will look at my GST report that I exported from QuickBooks Online and it essentially gives you all of the boxes that you have to enter in this return. You really only have to enter five boxes which is 101, 105, 108, 205 and 208. So the first one is 24738.44. So I am going to put that into the taxable supplies section. Again, nothing in the exempt supplies in my case. However, if you have sales in which you did not charge GSTHST or qst, you should include those in here. GSTHST collectible reflects the amount that you collected from your customers or clients on the sales that you made that is handily available here. It's a $1,236.93 and you'll see that it's line 103. And I'm just going to put that here. Adjustments or if you have adjustments from previous periods, this is sort of outside of the scope of this, of this tutorial. So the input tax credits refer to the amount of sales tax that you have paid on the expenses that you incurred. This has to be gst, HST or qst. No other types of sales tax should be included in this number. We're going to put 837, 48. And now let's scroll down to the QST return. And again, Revenue Quebec has a combined return with separate fields for GST and qst. Sometimes you'll have separate returns. You'll have a separate GST return and a separate QST return in the Revenue Quebec interface. Then you would just simply file them separately. The process is pretty much the same. You just would have to do two returns instead of one. So the QST collectible according to my schedule is 246767. I'm going to enter this here and the input tax refunds are 16, 30, 64. This is box 206. And I had mentioned box 208 which is here sort of the same thing unless you have adjustments which get included in 208. So now once you have entered those amounts you would calculate. Everything's here. You would click on calculate and it calculates the total amount payable and you are going to make sure that it agrees to the total on your return. This is really important and if you made a mistake you'll be able to see from here that the total doesn't agree. So it does agree. So we're going to click on next. Now it's asking if I intend to pay within the next five days. Again, presumably you are not late. So you will say yes to this. And when you do say yes to this, it will actually pre populate a code that you can use to pay online.
So I will click on yes.
And then you'll see it gives me the actual return. It gives me all of the information in the return. Everything looks good. The 399.45 agrees to this. The 837.03 agrees to this amount here. And then you have your total payable, you have your intention to pay. And then you simply have to confirm that the above information is accurate and complete. Again, just make sure you do a final check. You don't want to do this incorrectly because if you do, the amendment process can be a huge pain in the ass. Okay, so let's click on submit.
And there you go. So your return was transmitted. It gives you the time.
Make sure you do not send them another version of this return. Whether it's a paper version, don't do it online.
Just this is the return, otherwise they will double count it. And that's also not fun. And then it gives you a payment code. And this payment code can be used in your online business banking to pay the amount owing in this case of $1,236.48.
And to do that you would go to your business banking in your whatever bank that you and search for revenue Quebec code and that'll be an option and you simply have to copy and paste this code. No other information as far as I know is really required. And then you can make the payment. You can also use a pre authorized debit or you can send them a check if you would like and you would print this remittance slipped to enclose with your check.
The final thing that's very important to do here, you definitely want to print this and save it.
On your computer so you have a record that it was sent.
That's pretty much how you file the return. It is, again, very simple. Simple as long as you have your report ready.
Just make sure you make your payment by the due date, otherwise interest and penalties are charged. And also, if you do not submit the return by the due date, you get charged significant interest and penalties. So I highly recommend that you try and do that. So that concludes this tutorial. I hope it was helpful. Please subscribe if you find these tutorials useful, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to leave them in the comments. Have a great day.
