How I Handle Voiceovers in Descript Without Re-Recording

Mike Lyons shows how to fix voiceovers in Descript by editing the transcript text and regenerating speech with AI, skipping the studio. The new audio syncs automatically to your timeline, and you can add graphics to hide the edit. It sounds natural and beats re-recording.

Hey there. I've been working with Descript now for a bit, and one of the tools I'm finding most awesome and fun is this ability to do voiceover without actually going back in the studio recording and then bringing in the voiceover. So I'm going to practice that using the generate speech feature here within Descript. So I'm in the, I'm in this video that I'm working on and this section right here, I want to tell people. How they can understand their market better. Okay. So the problem is I say right here, I'll just play it. Give you just enough context to make smart product decisions. Okay. I say just enough context to make smart product decisions. It's not really what we're talking about. What we're really talking about as I rewatch this video is we're really talking about just enough context to understand the market or for market understanding. So So what I want to do is replace the words, to make smart product decisions. I want to replace that with the words, for market understanding. And then that will match the motion graphic I have on screen. So in the transcript, I'll highlight the words, to make smart product decisions. And I'm going to click this regenerate button right here. So now it's, it's got the words, to make product decisions, to make smart product decisions. I'll replace that with the words, for market understanding. Make sure you spell it right. And, and I do use the punctuation, a period, that seems to help with the AI speech voiceover. So now I'll hit regenerate. And you can see over here on the right, the activity says generating AI speech. You can also see in the timeline, it's replaced the words that were there with the new words I typed in, for market understanding. It's got the original video here. This, this layer, that's actually the original video with the original audio in there in case I need to go back to it or even, you know, highlight it or whatever I need to do. But I'm, I'm got this motion graphic over the top, which helps sort of mask that it's just a voiceover. It did have, there was a little radio button to generate the video. I haven't had much success with that yet. But generative AI speech, I certainly have. Okay. So that finished. So let's listen to this whole thing in context. We'll start here. No. All right. I'm going to give you 5 key areas to give you just enough context for market understanding. First up. That was pretty impressive. I mean, it just sounds a lot like me. So now the, it no longer has the legacy words. It's totally replaced it with the words for market understanding. Let's listen to it again. Context for market understanding. And then I just move on right to the next one. I found that much easier than going back in the studio, setting up the microphone or whatever you need to do, and then bring in the voiceover. There you go. Fast way to use the generate speech piece of Descript. Hope you found that helpful.
