In this episode, we're going to unpack how a shark tank shark built not only a media profile, but also a billion dollar real estate empire. Welcome to sales Process Made Simple. The show helping seven to eight figure industry construction and trade. Sales and business leaders finally end the stress of inconsistent sales by simplifying your sales systems so your team can close more deals and grow faster. I'm your host, Ben Wright, a leader who has been building businesses and sales teams just like you for the last 20 years. In this episode, we're going to profile a lady named Barbara Corcoran, who for those listening in the southern hemisphere, you may not be as aware of as those in the northern hemisphere, particularly those in the usa. But Barbara's a lady that I don't know personally, but certainly have admired one or two things that she's done across her career to build some success in what she does. But Barbara Corcoran actually built a billion dollar real estate empire. I don't care what industry you're in, to build a billion dollar empire, you have been seriously, successfully from a revenue generation point of view. But she's also built a profile from a media point of view as being an investor on Shark Tank. Great program. Some really great stories have come out of that. But for me, one of the reasons I wanted to talk about Barbara today is that she is someone who has really shown the importance around resilience, authenticity and even your own personal brand to be able to close deals. And look, it's always hard to validate this type of information, but my understanding is that Barbara is someone who started with not a lot of money. And I say it's hard to validate that because I've certainly heard rags to riches stories that weren't that way. But I love taking this stuff on face value because for me, seeing people who have succeeded in life and in business and whatever they put their minds to is inspiring. I never look at that and go, why have you been able to do that? Why can't I? But I'm all, look at it and go, wow, well done. Now let's have a look at what you've done that's made you really successful that myself as a leader or sales or business leaders can think about. And there's a real key message here that I'll get to in a moment. But barbar. Barbara started with not a lot of money and built the Corcoran Group into a serious brokerage in New York City. So she eventually she sold out of it. I don't believe she's in the business anymore. But one of the things that stood out for me is her ability to build that around a personal brand, but also having the resilience to stand out in what is a super competitive industry, and no doubt an industry that's a lot harder, not right, but a lot harder for women to succeed in. And what I really like is that to get to the place she's got to, sure, we're going to need to have made some really hard cutthroat decisions. But also the piece around being authentic, resilient and leveraging that personal brand I think has really come to show here. And as I think about trade and building and construction and industry type of segments, particularly those that have leaders at the front of the peloton, right, Leaders, really running these businesses publicly is knowing what you stand for and being really committed to personally growing that can make a substantial difference to your growth profile. When we talk about sales, really knowing that your impact you have on customers when you meet them on site, or your impact that you have on your sales teams when you're training them and building processes can be substantial in terms of how you grow. Barbara is one that I think was able to do that. She was really resilient, authentic in leveraging herself and her personal brand to be able to close those really high value deals, right? To get them done, you have to be able to have that presence there as an individual to stand up in front of your customers and get the deals done. And for me, I think that ability to be genuine, to be persistent, to front up again and again and again are so critical to the success of businesses, particularly Those in that one to $10 million mark who are wanting to grow. Now, no doubt having a process behind you is equally as important. But for me, the key lesson that I take out of this as a sales professional and as a leader is being prepared to really be resilient. Right? And I think you do need to prepare to be resilient. Because if you can get yourself in that right mindset that says, hey, I'm going to take the knocks, I'm going to take the doubters, I'm going to be busy, I'm going to handle those problems in my stride, you set yourself up to handle more situations well than those that you don't. And being prepared to say, hey, I'm going to grind my teeth, I'm going to put my head down, my bum up, and I'm going to work through this can really help drive through those harder times. But when you can combine that with being authentic, and having your own personal brand, you're not only showing your team and your customers and those around you that you're prepared to work through hard times, but having your own personal brand there is much more effective at building trust, particularly when customers don't know you. And I've spoken at great length about the importance in particularly the first meeting with customers around being able to build trust quickly. So my encouragement from the Barbara Corcoran playbook, dare I say it, is all about making sure that we know that we are going to be in for hard times and we're resilient enough to fight through them. But as importantly, we're going to let our personality really shine through when we're dealing with customers. Because for me, there's not a lot of difference between your personality at a personal level and at a business level. I've never recommended you have different Personas in your personal and your work life, but find out in a business sense what part of your personal attributes can really help you succeed. Double down on them, leverage them heavily and make sure that they become omnipresent and ever present in your business as it grows and grows and grows. So key message from today is resilience is personal brand and authenticity. We've heard these messages before, but I love being able to explore them from slightly different angles. In this instance, a lady that built a billion dollar real estate empire in a super brutal industry really leveraged and doubled down hard on these traits. I think us as sales leaders have a think about where we might be able to do it too. Areas where we might be able to show greater resilience. Areas where we might be able to allow our personal brand to shine through a little more heavily and start to think about how we can roll that into our days. Very grateful you listen.
