In this YouTube panel, four dentists (Speakers A‑D) discuss BioBlock therapy, a preventive orthodontic approach they claim is superior to conventional methods for children and adolescents. Speaker A emphasizes early treatment (ages 3‑8) to prevent future TMJ dysfunction, sleep apnea, and facial imbalance, highlighting BioBlock’s ability to advance incisors, expand the maxilla, and improve airway dimensions. Speaker B adds that BioBlock uniquely integrates facial proportions and airway health, contrasting it with traditional orthodontics that only straighten teeth. He cites Dr. John Mew’s influence and his own motivation to learn BioBlock for his children’s benefit. Speaker C stresses that many structural problems stem from lifelong poor posture and that other appliances fail to address these issues, whereas BioBlock, inspired by the results of John Mew and Bill Hang, offers a principled, effective solution. The conversation repeatedly underscores the clinical advantage of treating patients early to avoid “nightmare” adult cases involving TMJ pain, sleep apnea, and facial disharmony, positioning BioBlock as a game‑changing technique for general dentists who want to offer services beyond what local orthodontists provide.

Why is it attracting so many general dentists? Well, we treat patients of all ages. We encourage kids to come in as early as age 3 and 4. It's a big part of dentistry to prevent disease. We always ask kids and adults to brush and floss to prevent gum disease. We fill teeth with cavities to prevent teeth from getting infected or, or having facial infections. And so any— when I heard, and when general dentists hear about BioBlock therapy, that is a preventative type of a therapy at such a young age, it's very interesting. In my practice, I treat a lot of adult orthodontics, TMJ dysfunction patients, and sleep apnea patients. There wasn't a lot, and there isn't a lot of Therapies that are available for kids, but we do see kids as early as 6, 7, 8 years old that have clicking joints, clenching and grinding problems, and airway problems. There wasn't a lot of good comprehensive preventative type of based therapies that were available, but that is exactly what BioBlock is, and it's the best available. type of a therapy in order to prevent kids from growing up into adult pain and sleep apnea patients. The age that you could treat the patients at, we knew that treating patients early was a good idea. We never had the correct appliances to maximize the aesthetics and the airway the way the BioBlock does. We never advance the incisors as far as I see that the Phase 1 BioBlock therapy advances the incisors, but it is the way to do it after I've seen the research and I've seen the cases being done. You need to do it that way to get the best cosmetic result of the face, the way that we relate the teeth to the face. The way we expand the maxilla and maximize the airway, it's much superior to any other method.
What's great about BioBlock is that it takes into account the airway and the facial proportions. So it's looking at your face and your airway, which hence has to do with your health, how you sleep, if you sleep well. You're healthier, you're breathing better. Oxygen is, you know, the number one thing we need to live. And whereas regular orthodontics just straightens the teeth, they don't take into account the face, they just basically look for straight teeth. You're a general dentist too? I'm a general dentist. And I heard Dr. John Mew speak a few years back at the AACP, which is the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain. They have different, you know, meetings, and I was just blown away. And I just felt that I always knew that somehow through my own orthodontic treatment that things weren't quite right. And so when I heard John Mew, it just really— I got— I had a connection. It just rang a bell for me, and I was like, I have to learn this for my children. So I can treat my own kids.
You have to undo the structural problems that have resulted from bad posture all their life, and doing that is near impossible with the other techniques that are out there. There are appliances that make you think you're bringing the lower jaw forward, but compared to the BioBlock, they really aren't doing the same thing. So I just saw the results that John Mew got, the results that Bill Hang got, and I thought, oh my gosh, this is— this blows away anything we've done. with any other technique, I've got to learn how to do that. But I've sort of approached it more from a principled standpoint where once I see the benefits that it offers to patients, I can't not do it. Well, the approach to orthodontics that you learn from Bill gives you a unique way to help people that most local orthodontists don't have. And so as a general practitioner, that's a good position to be in because you're seeing The experts around you unable to do things that you're capable of doing, not because you have any magical ability, but because it's just an approach that works. If you don't treat the kids with BioBlock early on, then you end up with these nightmare cases as adults that have the temporomandibular joint problems, they've got the sleep apnea problems, they've got faces out of balance. So you see both ends. You kind of have the beginning of the story seeing the kids in BioBlock that really need it, But we're already seeing the end of the story by the adult patients that we're treating, things that we've learned about from Bill, how to open the extraction spaces. Why wait till you have such a huge fire to put out? If you can treat them at the earlier stages, you can really change their life, help them live longer in a more kind way of treating them.
How will you select your patients when you are doing the cases, and why some cases work and some don't? And I think that's wonderful. That's what we need, practicing in the real world.
