Short coaching guidance explaining two simple repetition rules for effective communication: the '3x rule' (repeat a message at least three times so people notice) and the '7x rule' (use seven different modes/exposures so recipients can internalize and teach the message). The advice is grounded in the speaker’s marketing/advertising experience and aimed at coaches and communicators.

I personally just have a rule that I talk to people about when I'm coaching. That's the 3x and the 7x rule that just based on my marketing and the background that I had, we were always taught that you drive by a brand new billboard at least three times before you turn to your spouse and say, hey, has that always been there? Right? Like just, we know this, we know this in advertising, we know this in marketing. We have to also know this among our communication. So I pretty much tell everybody that I coach. If you didn't say it three times, they never heard you the first time. And then the 7x portion of the rule is that if you want somebody to learn it to the point where they can repeat it to somebody else and go train other people on it, then try to be a little bit more creative on the modes of communication. Can you try to find seven different ways to express it? That's how many times somebody needs their brain to interact with it, that they could then be your advocate for you.
