A brief spoken excerpt (YouTube video by Bill Gallagher) describing unsuccessful hires of senior partners from KPMG and Deloitte who "washed out" not for lack of skill but because of cultural mismatch. The speaker contrasts how corporate brand (e.g., IBM) confers credibility that individuals may not carry when they leave a well-known firm, complicating assessments of hire quality and trust.

And one of the things I talk about in the book, and I had this same experience myself, is virtually none of them were successful hiring, professional hires. So I wouldn't have been hired by these guys. I don't think you would have been hired by these guys. Right. And I know when I had my consulting firm, we were at a place where we wanted to go hire. So we did hire a partner from kpmg, we hired a partner from Deloitte, and they completely washed out. And it wasn't because of their deficiencies or their skills. They weren't a good cultural fit. And, you know, one of the things that I talk about and they found exactly the same thing is, you know, if you're IBM, I work for IBM. I could go get a meeting, probably pretty much with anybody with Pete's consulting firm. They're like, who the hell are you? No, I don't think so. Right. And so it's hard to separate the brand equity that the company's working for from the individual performance. Right. And that's kind of what they found.
