Bill Gallagher argues that satisfaction comes not from having more time but from making the hours you have feel purposeful. When days leave you with nothing to show, you feel unproductive and depleted. The fix is spending your hours so you end the day fulfilled instead.

When people have spent a sort of entire day with nothing to show, and not just a day on vacation or a weekend, but regular in their day to day life, when their days, they have nothing to show for how they spend their hours, they feel less productive, and that undermines their sense of purpose and therefore satisfaction. And this was really informative because it suggests that except at the very extreme dreams, it's not so much about having a whole lot more time. It's not about being time rich. It's about how do you make the time that you have rich? How do we spend the hours of our days so that at the end of the day, we don't look back exhausted and depleted and overwhelmed, and instead look back and yes, while we may have been busy, that we feel fulfilled and excited for the next day.
