“Someday” Isn’t a Strategy: Why You Must Plan Your Exit Now

Single-speaker YouTube talk by Bill Gallagher arguing that relying on a vague “someday” to exit a business is a poor strategy. Through a case study of a founder called “Thomas” (approaching 70) who delayed transition, the speaker shows how an overly embedded founder, undocumented processes, and team resistance can stretch a transition from a plausible 1–2 years into more than six years, costing personal time and options. He urges founders to declare an earlier exit date, codify processes, groom successors, and create a credible future story to increase company value and enable smoother transitions.
