Blake Robert Templeton explains the difference between power (raw strength) and authority (legitimate control). A rebellious horse is powerful but becomes powerless once riders take authority by tying the reins. Templeton argues Jesus stripped Satan's authority and gave it to believers through Christ's blood.
Chapters
The difference between authority and power. A quick story would be to explain this. Me and my buddy Timmy, we're gonna go ride horses and we're gonna go on a long journey. And this horse that Timmy has is a rebellious horse. He's bucking, he's pulling away, and we realize, man, he's so powerful, it's kind of dangerous. We've got to take him back and exchange him for another one. And literally took both of us as we're pulling on the reins to actually get him to go back to the actual barn. And then when we were in the barn, we tied him up. We bound the horse. When we bound the horse, the reins that are tied to him are completely under authority. He became powerless. He was so much more powerful than we were, but because we took authority, we took the reins and we bound them, he had no more power. Authority is needed to take control of power. Authority came from a position, power came from exertion. So what Jesus did is he took the medallions of authority off of Satan and he gave them to you, one who actually has the blood. That is what gave us authority over the enemy's power.
