Blake Robert Templeton argues overwhelm comes from internal agreement with negative voices, not external circumstances. He calls this "stepping outside your seat" and says the fix is recognizing you have authority to govern your emotions. The shift: stop asking why this is happening to you and start asking why you're agreeing with it now.

You know, I wonder what actually broke you. I mean, was it pressure or was it the moment that you realized you couldn't control anything anymore? Because if I'm honest, it wasn't the situation that shook me. It was what got exposed inside of me. I mean, like frustration, impatience, that tight feeling in your chest when things don't go your way. That wasn't strength being tested. That was control being challenged. And I started seeing something. Every time I felt overwhelmed, it wasn't because life was too much. It was because I stepped outside of my seat and I tried carrying something I was never designed to carry. I mean, I was reacting instead of ruling. I was feeling instead of legislating from heaven. And the craziest part was nothing outside of me had authority over me until I agreed with it internally. That frustration, that wasn't neutral. That was an agreement, an agreement with a voice that doesn't come from the Father voice. And the moment I saw that, everything shifted. I stopped asking, why is this happening to me? And I started asking, why am I agreeing with that right now? Because I've been given authority in Christ Jesus, my Lord, not to survive these struggles, but to govern over them in authority. And governing doesn't look like panic or anxiety. It looks like peace in the middle of chaos. It looks like being right in the middle of your worst scenario, the valley of the shadow of death, but then actually knowing I'm actually seated above this. So no, life didn't break me. It exposed where I was still thinking like a peasant in the slave market, like who forgot he already was seated like a son in the heavenly realm.
