Blake Robert Templeton uses long-range shooting to explain how sin throws off your spiritual aim. Just as wind and distance affect a bullet's path, sin creates obstacles between you and God's purpose. Surrendering those obstacles to Jesus removes the variables that keep you from hitting the mark.
So when you're shooting guns at the gun range, certain guns can shoot up to a mile long. So think about driving in your car the speed limit on the highway for a whole minute. That's a mile long. Well, to shoot a gun a mile, there's so many variables, but if you can remove the variables or calibrate them in, you can hit the mark. So that's what Jesus is talking about. Like, grace was allowing you to reveal your sin to him and him remove it from you because you surrendered it to him. And that was the variable, like the wind that would blow the bullet. That's the variable. Now we can hit the mark.
