Blake R. Templeton contrasts a boy who chases respect with a man whose wisdom naturally draws others to him. He points to Proverbs 22:29, "He will stand before kings," to show that wise people become counselors leaders seek out, not the other way around.
The difference from a boy to a man is he doesn't chase respect anymore. He's not literally searching for people's applause. Respect finds him. Kings seek their counsel. Proverbs 22:29 says, he will stand before kings. We see this all through scripture. When wisdom was in a man, people came to the man to gain that wisdom. That's a mighty shift from a man searching for applause.
