Your Kids are Not Your Enemy

Blake Robert Templeton tells fathers that their teenage sons' anger and rebellion aren't the real enemy. The real battle is spiritual: darkness and evil driving the behavior. He urges men to claim spiritual authority, rebuke the enemy, and engage in spiritual warfare instead of reacting to misbehavior.

Hello, my man. You're not losing your kids to bad behavior. No, man, you're simply losing because you're fighting the wrong battle. And that mistake will make you feel like your life has no impact, even when you know you're called to change your family's life. I was talking to a guy named Trent, and he pours into fatherless teenage boys. These kids have been abused, in and out of school, in and out of rehab. He told me something super heavy. He's like, man, it is so hard. They're angry, they're disrespectful, they don't want to be here, but And the worst part, I don't even know if what I do matters. You ever been there? See, it's because he was looking at the visible, looking for visible change. And when he didn't see it, he felt hopeless, like his life had no meaning. But here's what he didn't realize. I told him something that flipped everything. You're measuring your purpose on what you see. Proverbs 3:5 says, trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. So he was focused on behavior, but he wouldn't take an authority over what's driving behavior. These weren't just rebellious teenagers. These are wounded little 5-year-olds in the bodies of teenagers trying to medicate the pain with darkness. And as a man, you don't just deal with what's in front of you. You have to take authority over evil and darkness that is actually behind it. So when you're aligned in the blood of Jesus, you have authority over the unseen. So stop reacting to the behavior of your kids and start attacking what's attacking them. You get me? Because if you only respond to what you see, you're going to get frustrated. But when you take authority over what you can't see, Everything shifts. So let me ask you something. Is the enemy provoking you to get angry at your kids so that you never take authority over what's actually influencing them? It's a good question, huh? See, a real man doesn't let his emotions be controlled by circumstances. He calls a timeout, it gets clear, and then he goes to war against the unseen. He activates a boiling hatred against the slave lord, and he destroys darkness with fierce hatred. He dismantles the schemes, he rebukes the tactics against his kids. And when you do that, you'll watch darkness start losing its grip over your family.
