Mat Sorensen wrote the industry's standard manual on self-directed IRAs, now required for national certification. After a decade as a lawyer fielding questions about where to set up one, he got frustrated with existing providers and built his own.
Every major company in the space uses my book to train their employees. The National Association in my industry uses my book as the only required book as part of their national certification training program to train people in the industry. It's like the Bible in our industry. I'm super proud about that. It took me years to write. I was a lawyer helping clients for 10+ years, figuring all that crap out. Well, I started getting a lot of clients. People would email me every day, hey, where should I set up my self-directed IRA? Who do you recommend? And I would send them to people and eventually I got tired of sending my clients to companies that wouldn't take care of the customer. And so I'm like, "I could do this better."
