Bob Gauvreau argues that accurate, up-to-date bookkeeping is essential for tax efficiency. He emphasizes not commingling business and personal accounts (separate bank accounts and credit cards) so legitimate business expenses are not missed. Missing deductible expenses can cost taxpayers substantially—Bob gives an example that $100 of missed expenses could result in paying 12%–55% in tax on that amount. Proper bookkeeping preserves deductions, reduces tax, and frees funds to reinvest in business growth.

So bookkeeping is 100% essential for effective tax execution. And what I mean by that is that if you don't have up to date accounting records and bookkeeping records, you're going to be missing out on expenses that you otherwise would be able to have. And so what I want to share with you is maybe a few quick tips on how you could avoid missing out on those expenses. Because those expenses are costly. Every dollar or every $100 that we're missing out on an expense that we already paid for, but we don't have the right documentation or it's being missed, that's 12 to 55% that we're going to be paying in tax on that $100. We could save that on the other side if we do it properly. So, number one, do not co mingle your business and personal items. Right. That is the biggest, one of the biggest mistakes that I see from a bookkeeping management standpoint and also from a tax planning standpoint. When you commingle your funds automatically, people assume things are personal or business. And what happens is we miss out on opportunities for legitimate business expenses because it's too hard to decipher. A good example is Amazon purchases. How can we tell that? It's Amazon purchases for supplies for your business versus Amazon purchases that show up at your house every day with a new pair of shoes. You know, it's, it's really hard to decipher. So what you do instead is you have a separate business bank account, separate personal bank account, separate business credit card, separate personal credit card. Put all of your personal on your personal cards, all of your business on your business cards, all the transactions personally we ignore and all of the business transactions that go through, we make sure that those are accurately reported and get fully expensed and deducted for tax purposes. Because ultimately, if we have good accounting and bookkeeping records, minimizes our tax, gives us more money to reinvest in growing our business. And that's what we're all here to do. We're on a mission to really grow our business and to maximize the impact. Tax planning and tax efficiency will be a good vehicle to help support you do that.
