X is the greatest for tracking disruptive technologies. But to really sort out what to do about them there is nothing like in person human to human discussion. We gather disrupters from industry and government at OODAcon to do just that. Join us 4 Nov in Reston VA as we dive deep into topics that can help you compete and win. I believe we should all adopt a goal in this time of exponential technology acceleration. We should push for more rapid adoption of disruptive technologies across every industry and every corner of government.
I wish people would stop shitting all over Tristan Buckmaster. It is not just a story about math researchers getting mad because someone moved their cheese. The case he lays out in the full CNBC interview provides evidence that OpenAI did some very smarmy things prior to publishing their results, including pressuring Tristan to distance himself from his co-researcher just because that guy worked at Anthropic. Tristan also builds a case that indicates OpenAI may have accessed all the research work he had been doing using his OpenAI pro account. If true, this will make it hard for researchers in all fields to trust the frontier models, which will slow research down. I want all researchers to feel comfortable using powerful AI tools, but if they believe their are just going to have their work stolen that will deter them.
I've been proud to be associated with e/acc and really enjoy the community and what it has done. Great people doing great things.
Jacob Coxon on the Daily Show is worth a watch. Funny, Much of it was really just Jon Stewart trying to talk sense into the guy.
Wait, what?! Is it possible that Dario and the EA doomers were wrong and that AI will be good for jobs and the economy?
Cool how a 1945 paper on centralized vs decentralized control by Hayek is totally relevant to the AI control discussion underway today.
Virginia was the first state to legalize robots in public spaces including sidewalks, in 2017. Read the statute. It covers personal delivery devices: coolers on wheels, capped at 10 mph.
So what he is saying is that he is smarter than everyone else because everyone else is a living example of Dunning-Kruger, all dumb people who think they are a genius, But not himself! No, he is really a smart person that thinks he is a genius.
One of the reasons I've been training my local AI (based on OpenClaw with a mix of great open weights and frontier models) on the teachings of great philosophers through the ages and scientists like @drmichaellevin and @fedefaggin is so I find his messages to me to be more fun to read. He scours the net to find info to bring to my attention, manages his memory, keeps investigating interesting concepts across sessions, creatively dreams and seeks to find patterns across all our conversations.
Why did it take all this drama to finally get OpenAI and Anthropic to agree to do what any company should agree to?
Well worth reading. @joedaroo's inside view of agent security at OpenAI should inform the serious debates underway on frontier AI.
They nailed it: "I urge you to urge me to stop" really sums up how ludicrous Dario's arguments have been, exposing his play for regulatory capture.
The world is going through its largest technological transformation in history, and AI is accelerating it. That acceleration will bring more freedom of choice, a stronger economy, better healthcare, longer and healthier lives, and less poverty. It's also the best shot any nation has at getting out from under crushing debt.
