7 Things Authors Must Master in 2026 (or Become Invisible)

Julie Broad outlines seven priorities for authors in 2026: building entity authority, managing your author brand, positioning in a niche, generating reviews that signal quality to algorithms, running Amazon ads strategically, and creating original content. If AI had to decide today whether your book matters, would it? Before you answer, remember, AI agents are searching, evaluating, and summarizing authors long before readers ever find them. And if your digital footprint doesn't scream credibility, authority, and actual relevance, you're done before you even hit publish. Thankfully, you're here watching this video. So if you want to be an author that is found and read in 2026 and beyond, this video is for you. Hey there. I'm Julie the Book Broad, founder of Book Launchers, author of four books, and creator of Author Launch Kit, the ultimate book marketing tool to help you get your book discovered and read by your ideal reader. If you're an author hoping for the secret to book marketing that will allow you to hide behind a screen while also selling buckets of books, 2026 does not have that in store for you. In fact, might even be the complete opposite. But here's what you need to know about marketing your book in 2026 and beyond. Number one become an entity or be erased. I know the days of keyword obsession being rewarded are gone in 2026. Keywords are background noise. Well, they're still useful, but ultimately entities win. If AI can't recognize you as Julie Broad, Author, Entrepreneur, Book Authority, then you're a ghost in the machine. AI will not surface your content, your your name won't appear in recommendations, and your book becomes a whisper in a noisy street. It's time to make sure you have the authority signals AI is looking for. So to strengthen your entity, here's what you need to do. Consistent high authority profiles across the web get interviewed, featured, make book lists that feature other books and your book Clear topic ownership make it clear that you are the go to expert on on your specific subject and get some credible mentions on other sites. I mentioned in a video on data on Self, Promote and Succeed didn't get recommended in the LLMs because Dave Chesson's blog post about book marketing books didn't mention me and it pointed back to this highly reputable blog and list several times saying that my book had traction and was good, but it wasn't included in that list. This is not optional. Being found on the lists by reputable sites and sources and having lists of your own is really important. My book was totally snubbed because AI decided the list on the Resources for Book Marketing didn't have my book so my book wasn't worth recommending. It's a tough pill to swallow, but now you know your mission should you choose to accept it. Number two your author brand is where the money is. And your author brand is determined online first. In a world where AI summarizes you before a human ever Googles you anymore, your reputation is your ranking. But think of the LLMs as judgy librarians. Yep, but they're going to aggregate everything said about you. The good, the bad and the wow. Who let them publish that and present a narrative to the world. And if you're not actively shaping that narrative, someone else is. So you must curate a clean, credible digital presence. Your author website. Your author website should be up to date and clearly showcase who you are, your accolades and your successes. And as much as you can get mentioned positively across a variety of platforms. And of course earn reviews, editorial reviews and customer reviews that signal authority. Not first time writer trying their best. Number three, Book discoverability is shifting to be an AI game. And it is not about optimizing for somebody typing leadership. Book optimize for somebody asking their favorite AI, what's the best book for new managers struggling with team communication. Because your book description, your website, your interviews, your articles, if you're answering that question, then you're coming to the top as those AI agents are forming their summaries. If you use generalities, you'll get lost in the shuffle. This is where being niche could be a winning formula. Because if someone's looking for your specific brand of special, AI now has a good chance to show it to that person, but only if you're clear and state it in a way that is not general. So niche wins in a lot of cases. Great authors in 2026 must address niche complex reader problems, clearly demonstrate depth, not regurgitated advice. Again, your clear unique lens is really important. And build a content ecosystem that reinforces your authority on the subject. Number four, human connection is gold. AI is replacing a lot, but that is making relationships more important than ever. When everything else becomes automated, human markers become premium currency. So this means in person events. We have one coming up. Author's Empire Workshop. Hope to see you there. Speaking local community book clubs, author reader interactions, online communities. We have one of those too, and it's free. The Author Lab. But we have entered the proof of humanity era. Readers don't just want a book, they want a guide they can trust. Bonus points if you even start hosting your own meetups or a book club. You could build your own community. Come on over to Author Lab on school and start making some like minded friends. And maybe you'll find some in your city that you can start meeting up with with. I mean, check out how international our Author Lab community is if you're in Chicago, you might be able to start hosting an author meetup, for example. Or in South England. There is a good contingent of you on there too. Go to our school community and connect and say hi. Whatever you choose to do, know that people need to know you and your human side now more than ever. And AI is getting so good. It's so hard to tell on video when what is human and what isn't. Which is why that in real life component is becoming more and more important than ever. I mean, would you keep coming back to watch these videos every Tuesday and Friday if I was a bot I'm curious actually, because maybe I could send my bot in. Go ahead and comment in the chat below if you'd watch these videos and subscribe if I was a bot and I do have an awesome bot, Julie the Book Bot and she's kind of legendary to those of our clients that are using her. She's a trusted guide, but I think that knowing she's built on my content, my advice, stories, expertise makes her that much more trusted than if she was just manufactured to be a bot of some kind. All right, number five Reviews still matter, but now they're also intel for AI. Reviews have always mattered. They're social proof. They appeal to the humans considering reading your book, the media outlets considering interviewing and featuring you, of course, the event planner considering putting you on their stage. They mattered. And they still matter. But now they're also currency for AI authority scoring. Because when the LLM sees a volume of reviews, the recency, the verified credibility in what people are saying, and repeated themes about your expertise, they will decide whether to include you in the top Recommended Reads Responses a book with 500 genuine reviews and editorial reviews from trusted sources and one that makes a couple of book lists from authorities on the subject. Well, that is going to far outrank almost any other marketing spend that you can do when it comes to getting recommended on an LLM authors, it's time to stop treating reviews like an optional favor and start treating them like the heartbeat of the book's longevity. Now, how do you get more reviews? Well, keep asking. Like right now, if you have read either my books, Self Publish and Succeed, or Self promote and Succeed, please post a review and help other readers like you find the book. And if you know Dave Chesson, tell him to put my books on his lists because it's hurting me. Seriously. Never thought missing out on a single list would hurt so much. But that's about me. And of course this video is for you. So I recommend using services like get authentic book Reviews or Get books Reviewed. I have videos on both of those services that I will put in the description below. There are also other great services as well. And doing a Goodreads giveaway can also help get reviews. Using Book Award Pro's level of service for Amazon reviews can also help too. Keep going. Unless you're James Clear, you do need more reviews. All right, number six, use Amazon ads and ebook sales to accelerate your fire, not start it. You can't buy your way to momentum anymore. Well, I mean you can buy a lot of media and that might eventually get you there, but ads, Amazon ads? No, ads amplify, they don't ignite. In fact, Amazon ads without authority, reviews, visibility demand a really strong hook and off Amazon interest, you're going to be spending more on those Amazon ads than you make. Amazon is putting so much emphasis on multiple sources of traffic that converts sales that continue, not just hit once. So before you spend money on ads, make sure your organic discoverability and your conversions are hopping. What do I mean when I say conversion? Well, that means somebody clicks on the page, your Amazon page, and turns from a browser to a buyer. If that is happening, ads will scale. What's working? If that is not happening, ads are going to reveal it faster and more expensively. Now Amazon ads do give you data. So if you are struggling to figure out what might be wrong with your book, well, ads can give you the data to help you figure that out. And again I have a video all about the data and how to understand it. If you need help with that, you only need a little bit of movement on your book to start to see where some of the weaknesses are and the data will help you figure that out. All right, number seven, content marketing is a great strategy if you have original content because AI can write generic content better than most humans now. So regurgitated advice? Nope. Dead on arrival. What survives and thrives? First party data, lived experiences, real stories, new frameworks, contrarian takes, research backed insights and opinions with teeth. You can take your book and use AI to turn it into a lot of content that works. If your book has original content that meets all of the above criteria and if it has those elements, well, you can use tools like ChatGPT or Claude or even our Author Launch Kit where you can get outputs full of content and even strategy and tactics to spread it out there into the world. But what you don't want to do is generically go to ChatGPT and say I need five articles on being found in search engines in 2026 and use what it outputs in 2026. The only authors who win are those who say something worth remembering and worth repeating. And okay, I've got a bonus because I can't resist helping you with this and maybe telling you what you might not want to hear. And if people are not talking about you in your book, AI isn't going to either. So you need brand mentions and getting your name to appear across podcasts, blogs, listicles, interviews, YouTube descriptions, social media posts, event sites, community posts. All of that is going to help AI see that you are relevant. But if nobody's mentioning you, AI is not going to think that you're worth mentioning. And if Dave Chesson leaves you out of their list, AI thinks you don't matter anymore. Yeah, that is why real relationships plus real visibility matter more than ever. Get together with your author friends and start making lists that include each other's books. Talk about each other if your content is related, build a community around you so you are talked about and discovered. Yes, your metadata does matter and of course you absolutely need a great book. But what's evolving in 2026 is entity building, reputation and brand management with AI oriented discoverability built in with human centric connection. Lots of reviews, so getting that review velocity, using ads as accelerators not engines and having insight led original expertise. If you master even just a couple of them, 2026 will be your best year yet. If you master all of it well, contact me. We've got jobs at Book Launchers and we can always use other authors who are helping other authors master visibility and success.
