Book Launchers 10,000 YouTube Subscriber Celebration

A recorded live celebration hosted by Julie Broad (founder of Book Launchers) with team members Sarah Bean, Jacqueline, and Tim, marking 10,000 YouTube subscribers (video date: May 30, 2019). The stream mixes lighthearted audience interaction and multiple prize giveaways (mugs, journals, hoodies, signed books) with practical advice for nonfiction authors: Jacqueline emphasizes thorough content edits, Sarah recommends marketing that plays to an author’s strengths and targeting a clear audience, and Julie covers defining success and distribution strategy. Practical logistics discussed include typical production timelines (roughly 9–15 months for the membership/platinum workflow) and distribution options (IngramSpark for wider/global distribution vs. Amazon/KDP limits).

Okay, so let's see how we can invite. All right. Hello, everybody. This is going to be the people watching the replay because now I have to go and invite the folks that are waiting in the other room to come join this room. Yeah, it didn't work, so don't know how. I'm just trying to find a screen here. I'm going to go tell them that we are now live somehow. All right, so we are. So that the other room, they can still see us. So you guys can talk while I'm telling them.
Welcome, everybody. Thanks so much for coming and joining us for our big celebration.
Big celebration day.
Yeah.
And book launch is history, I guess.
While we're doing this, do you want.
To do an intro?
Yeah, good idea. Do that. Sure. Too.
So I'm Jacqueline.
I am the client care specialist. I am the person who shepherds our books through the process and gets designs and feedback to and from all the different designers and basically make the books come out pretty at the very end. That's what I do.
Yes. I'm Tim. I'm the drummer.
The drummer.
Actually. I'm the writing coach, and I turned my original book into a TV show, so I hope I can do the same for you. Or at least something like that.
Awesome.
And hi, everybody. I'm Sarah. I am the marketing pro. I help your books and spread that positive awareness around you, your brand, the book, and everything that you are doing all right.
And hopefully you guys know who I am. If you're new to YouTube, you might not. I'm Julie Broad, and I'm the founder of Book Launchers, and I'm also the one who brings them over here. I bring all the tech gremlins with me. They're like my little buddies.
They definitely follow you around from every platform.
So it was almost guaranteed that this wasn't going to work the first try. But thank you. I see you all joining, so hopefully you're coming from the other stream. I've now posted the link over there so that folks hopefully can find us here. But welcome. We are celebrating 10,000 subscribers on YouTube, so thank you so much. And if you haven't already noticed, we're all wearing some pretty fantastic noboringbooks swag. And this is some of the special prizes that we said are just going to be for today's celebration, so we're really, really excited. Oh, it says, hold potentially inappropriate messages for review. Are you guys saying nasty things?
I know we were a minute behind, but come on.
So, anyway, so we've got these awesome hoodies we've got one in medium, one in large, one in extra large. We're going to be giving those away today. So you have to be here live when we do that. And that was actually one thing we didn't talk about about was how we were going to decide who gets those. So you guys start thinking about that.
Okay.
All right. Because that was. We had a meeting beforehand and I went over everything except how we're going to give it away. So we are well prepared. Except for that. So we can also take suggestions as to how you guys think we should.
We're doing it from the chat.
Yeah. Well, that's. There's going to be. You'll have to tell us that you're here, by the way. We are. We're brilliant in many ways, but we are not psychic. So it tells us the number of people that are here. However, it does not tell us who you are. So you have to talk to us in the chat like Dale is.
Hey, I am going to be monitoring the chat.
All right. To make it a little bit easier. Awesome. And Ms. Amber, welcome. Ron.
Hey.
And thank you for moving over, Ron. Actually, so the first prize today is going to go to the first commenter. And I know, Dale, that's technically you in this screen, but in the other screen where we were supposed to be, Ron was the first commenter. So, Ron, you are our first winner, Ironically, the first prize. And I'm not even kidding, Ron. So in lieu of that, Ron, would you like a book launcher's journal or a book launcher's mug? You can send me an email. You know the email address and let me know and I will get that to you. You can tell me here, but I will forget. So please send me an email to teamtamookhunters.com and I will hook you up. So thank you for being the first one to our. So that is the first prize. I'm gonna give other folks a shout out here. So. Hey, Jim, thank you for finding us here. Kevin. Kevin. You guys stayed up super late to hang with us, so thank you. Kevin. He's over in Europe and It's at least 12:30am over there for you. I think so. Yeah. So thank you. Kevin, Veronica, welcome. Chiro Cairo. What up? Hello. Ninja. It's like a Cairo. Oh, it's Cairo ninja. Any bets? That's Cairo ninja.
We're getting lots of congrats on 10,000 subscribers. Thank you, everyone.
Yeah, thank you. Thank you. And Katie from Augusta. Hello. Ms. Amber. I think we said hello. Are you healed from unforgiveness I know your name is in this mug right here at least three times, if not four. And let's see who else is here. Brian. Hello. I know, Brian.
Nice to see you.
You're definitely in here. I promise it's in here multiple times. Brian is like, he's. He's on a mission to get a mug. Hello, Dan from Kentucky. Welcome, everybody. Okay, so without further ado, we are going to do more prizes. Oh, yeah. And thanks for the thumbs up. The thumbs ups are awesome, so thank you for that. You can give us a thumbs up at any time. It makes us happy and it feels good, I tell you, I swear. What do you always say? Mash that thumbs smash that thumbs up button, right? Feels good. Try it. Okay, guys, so this is for the YouTube comment. So if you don't already know when you comment the day a video is released, you get entered to win some book launcher swag. And right now we're choosing from the infamous noboringbooks mug, which I've actually had people say coffee tastes better in it.
So good job on the thumbs up, Ron.
Yeah, there we go. Thanks for that. And this. Oh, so sad.
So lovely.
Abacontres journal. So that's your choices today. So we're going to actually somebody else can draw for change because it's always me that does this. So Tim. There we go. Tim, the drummer in the back.
We're gonna put you to work with your hair.
Oh, I think I grabbed two. Oh, my gosh.
Oh, we got two winners. We can do two. It's a celebration.
Okay. Except say it.
Yeah, yeah.
Joseph Rothstein.
All right. Joseph Rothstein, are you here? I don't know if you're here, but if you're watching the replay, send us an email to teamoklaunchers.com and give me your mailing address because again, I'm not psychic. Can't figure that out. I'm not a stalker. You'll need to tell me a mug or a journal and your mailing address. And then I think Tim had somebody else fall out.
No, it's Ron. Ron, you win everything.
Yay, Ron.
No, you do not.
You get nothing else.
You get one prize.
Today I won the journal for the next book.
Oh, yeah.
These make perfect for writing down book notes.
Absolutely, Ron.
Makes us look like we only have one fan.
Our next winner. I know, Ron. I feel it for Brian because Brian isn't so dedicated trying to win. But it's almost like the universe doesn't want you to leave me. You know, we want you commenting on every video and if you win, maybe you would stop. So I think that's probably why. But I promise, Brian, it really was in there. All right, so. Hey, Chris. Hey, Jason.
Hi, Alice. Thanks for joining us.
Hey, Alice.
Welcome.
Okay, so next up, what I thought we would do is you guys hear from me all the time. And, you know, a lot of you give me credit for being the expert, but I'm actually fairly a generalist when it comes to self publishing. And these guys are the experts. They are the ones that are really deep into different parts of the business and different parts of book publishing every day. So I asked them to think about their absolute best tip for nonfiction authors. And they might have two. So I'm going to actually step out of the way so I'm not like full on. You guys see my face all the time. So you can talk to these guys and get their best tip. And they already introduced themselves at the beginning, but a lot of you have joined since then. So I'll just get them to give a quick, you know, 411 on who they are, what they do at Book Launchers and give you their best tip for nonfiction authors. And if you gu got questions for us, this is a great time to ask because I do have people here that can answer if I can't answer for you guys. So, yeah, welcome. And I'm going to turn it over to Jacqueline.
Okay, sorry.
And I said.
Thanks, Julie. Workers comp right there. Okay, so I am Jacqueline and I take our books from when they are done with the first draft and shepherd them through the editing and design process. And then eventually they go over to Sarah for marketing while I'm here. And I'm going to take my moment. I'm going to thank all of the.
People who helped these books.
So on the editing team, thank you, Kathy and Pamela and Yeeshan and Kelly and Jordette. On the writing team. Thank you, Deborah, Ryan and Kathy on the prep team. Thank you, Dan, Tara and cj and on the design team, thank you, Ari, Melinda, Cassie, Jin, Stephanie and Nelly. You guys do amazing work all the time. So I hope you see this later.
I can't forget Shelly.
Oh, and Shelley. Yeah, Shelley should be on the prep team.
Sorry. Fun fact, interior design. One of our team members got an accolade, one of the books that we worked on. Will you tell them I'll mess it up?
No, they got an award. I just, I don't know the name of the award, but it was like an award winning design.
Ingramspark, right?
Oh, yeah, it was Melinda's Melinda's design for Elephant in the Gym, which may be here.
It is there. Yeah. And it's gorgeous.
Oh, here it is. We have a stack of our book.
I just totally ruined the stack of books. Here we go.
Award winning interior work. So, yeah. Fantastic.
Ingramspark chose this book to demonstrate their printing quality at multiple book fairs for this coming fall. So it was a big, big moment. I'm supposed to give a tip and I wear a lot of hats, so sometimes it's hard to pick a tip. But I think probably the thing that will help your book the most is in the writing process and the content edit. The more time that you spend in the content edit, really looking at what the editor said, and don't rush through that part. Really dig into your thinking. Make sure that you haven't missed any logic steps, that you're citing all of your sources, that someone who looks at it objectively will go, wow, this is a really good book. And all of that hard work is done early in the process in the content edit stage. So that's my big tip, is to spend the time to do a quality book there. And the rest of the process goes very, very smoothly.
So there you go. Awesome. I'm just gonna step in for a sec. We'll do a prize, and I'm just gonna check the comments.
Oh, we've got some good ones. We got lots of new people that just.
All right, so welcome everybody that just joined us. And we've got. I'm just seeing. Make sure I didn't miss anybody saying hello to you, Mary.
Yep.
Thank you, Jean. Hello, ij. IJ King. I think that there's an LJ King. IJ King. Yeah. You found where the party's at. So thank you to everybody who's finding us over here. Technology gremlins got the best of me, but we made this work, so yay. And then Tamara Brown. Yep. Tamara Brown.
Excellent.
Thank you. Great tips. So now we're gonna give a prize away, I think. Why don't we give away one of the hoodies? What do you guys think? Okay, so how are we gonna give this first hoodie away?
It is gonna go to the 21st commenter in this new chat. In this one.
That's in this new chat. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
So I don't know, but although some people. Dale commented five times in a row.
That's fine. We'll go count 21 down, including all five. Yeah, sure. Okay.
Otherwise, let's just give it to Ron.
Veronica, 15 was Dale. Then we go. Ron was 20.
Kevin McGuire. Kevin McGuire. All right, ship, shipping something else to Europe. All right, so the benefit of being so. Yeah, they're probably checking, people. Ron's probably checking. He's going, I should have wanted him.
I did it very quickly.
All right, so somebody else can double check that for me if she counted 21 wrong. So, Kevin, you were wrong. So the benefit of being first is you get to choose your size. We have medium, which is what I'm sporting. We have a large, which is what Sarah's sporting, and then we have the extra large, which Tim is sporting. So I like how he. So you can let us know which size. Send me Kevin. Let me know if you want me to ship it to the usual spot. So email me teamoklaunchers.com with your size choice, and then actually, we'll need to know what size you're choosing. Extra large. Okay, perfect. So now we have a medium and a large left. Okay. And Brian's like, I'm sure I was 22. All right, I'm going to now turn it over to Tim. Okay.
Yeah.
All right. Who is Tim Testa, man, Myth legend.
No.
Anyway, that's why we keep him on the phone.
Yeah.
All right. I'm on the phone and not actually. I am the writing coach. So if you are writing, I'd love.
To work with you.
And of course, I've probably worked with many of you already. My tip would be you probably.
Have.
A book inside you, but you have to believe it before anybody else will. So it's all about confidence and be willing to deliver your message and not be afraid that just to deliver your message and be confident about it. I keep saying the same words, deliver and confidence. But anyway, that's it. That's my whole thing.
Thank you. Okay, so we also have. We have some books to give away. And the first book we have is.
Ron's book, Green Wizard.
So let's see. How should we give this one away? Skill testing question or should we ask a question and the first one to answer.
I don't have a question off the top of my head.
This is where we were supposed to prepare. Let's see what you guys say. Tim, you're a riot.
Whoever can compliment Tim the most?
Yes. Yeah. Ron, you don't want to win this book. Okay? So I am going to. Let's see. I'm trying to think. I'm drawing a complete blank. I'm sorry, you guys. Let's see. What is. Oh, you know what, what is the last video, the most recent video I put out. What was it about first.
We're going to answer quickly without going back and checking.
Yeah, people, you can cheat, but it's still the first person to answer it.
I don't know the answer.
I know this one.
Yeah. And in the meantime, you guys think of something else, like some other question that we can ask people to win a prize. Author's insurance. Yay. So, Ms. Amber, send me an email. Tell me in that email that you won the Green Wizard Guide, please. We're going to write this down too. Yes, please. And but send me your mailing address. Teamteamooklaunchers.com Congratulations. This is a fantastic. Your vegetables, your fruit, your lawn. They're going to be the envy of everybody you know after you read this simple, great organic tips. That stuff that you probably already have in your house. So fantastic book. Congratulations. Okay, now I'm going to turn it over to Sarah and then we'll do. Dale says I watch all your videos out of order so he doesn't know the most recent. Okay. So I'm going to turn it over to Sarah and we'll do another tip and then we're going to do more prizes. Okay.
Hello, everybody. So I am Sarah Bean. I am the book marketing pro. So I work with all of our authors. After you have gone through Tim's capable writing hands and Jacqueline's capable client care shepherding hands, I take over and we taught work on marketing strategy, publicity and how to build awareness around your book. So some of you I have worked with before and some of you are upcoming and I'm excited for that. My best tip for you, my best tip for you would be to play to your strengths when it comes to marketing. Marketing can be extremely daunting because there are just so many options and so many things you can do. So my tip for you is to know something that you are really good at. Are you active in a specific community? Do you have a really big social media following? Are you parts of specific groups that might be really interested in your book? Play to those when it comes to marketing and you will find things go a lot smoother. That's my tip.
I will really. It's a great. It's a great tip.
Yes.
And if anybody has questions, like I said, this is a great time to. Great time to ask. We've got. Let's see. Questions in available. Let's see. I watched them all in order and I still brain farted. Welcome, Sarah. Oh, great. Awesome. And, and Ron said, welcome Sarah. Another winner on the staff. So thank you, Ron. Thanks for the tips. I found your post published. Post. You found you post published. That's no limit. 1773.
Oh, meaning you already published your book.
And you found us afterwards, Maybe. Oh, post published. I see. I found you post published. Got it. Okay, so I have. Yeah. He said yes. Thank you. Or no limits. I'm assuming he could be she. No limits is pretty.
There is no limits to that.
There's no limits. Okay, thank you. All right, so we are now going to. Oh, yeah, I think Dan, you told us that earlier when you arrived with that name. So thank you. Okay, so we're gonna give away another prize. We're gonna do another book. And this one, I believe, is autographed by the author. Yes, I got the wrong one, but I promise. Oh, there it is. I promise this one's autographed by the author. Double check. Yeah, there we go. Okay. This one is signed by the author. And this is called Screaming for Pleasure. It is Scott Bradley. It is how horror makes you happy and healthy. Another really beautifully designed interior book. Very proud of how that one turned out. So how should we do this one? Let's see. Oh, great. Dave gave us a question. How. Oh, well, that's a question. That's not a skill question. That's not a skill testing question. We will answer that, though. So thank you for that question. Hey, it's April, your biggest fan in Tennessee. Sorry, I'm tardy for the party.
Hi, April.
Hello. Hello. Okay, so what we're gonna do this time is I am going to. Let's see, let's pick from the bottom up. We're gonna pick the 17th comment, so.
Okay, starting with Mary.
Mary. Yeah, starting with Mary.
Don't start commenting now, people.
Okay, so 17th up, you're gonna be the winner of Screaming for Pleasure. And so you'll just need to mail me. Email me@teamooklaunchers.com Ryan. Ryan. 17.
Up to Mary.
You won. I know you want a mug in a journal, but you'll love this. Congratulations, Brian. So email me your mailing address, and then I'll have it for when you win that mug or that journal. All right, folks, so my biggest tip is hard because I have a bazillion tips.
I really.
I was trying to think, like, what would I say would be the biggest tip? And I think it's going to be. It really depends on what phase of the process that you're on, what tip I would give you. But I think at the end of the day, knowing what success looks like for you is really important, and it's going to drive every decision that you make throughout the entire process. For some people, they have a book that's really, really timely. And so the most important thing is just getting the book out. They're going to figure out marketing after the fact. But that's a very tiny percentage of who I think is working on a book these days. You know, that's like a really timely topic. It makes sense to just drive everything forward for speed only most people are creating a book that has longevity, that, you know, five, six, ten years from now, people still could be reading your book. And if that is you and your goal is to be that known name in your industry and to get it out there and then you want to think about, hey, do I want speaking engagements? Like, what am I going to want to do when the book comes out? And carefully think about that and assess each step to make sure it's getting you there and something to think about. And this is something Sarah can speak to as well. You know, if you want to be a paid speaker, which a lot of people who write books want to be a paid speaker, you need to look at who's paying to speak. And what I mean by that is, so I came from a real estate background. I spoke a lot. Very rarely was I ever paid to speak. And in fact, a lot of the big speaking opportunities in the real estate space were paid to speak. So I actually, if I wanted to speak at a lot of events, I would have to pay to be on that stage versus them paying me. And so if you don't know this going in and you've got a subject matter that you're going to talk about that is going to lend yourself to not be paid to speak, then you either are going to want to rethink what you're talking about or you're going to want to have a back end funnel. For me, I didn't pay to speak anywhere, but I didn't need to be paid because I attracted clients. We raised capital from these speaking engagements. Like, the benefits of speaking were tremendous for me. With the book in hand, I sold books at the back of the room. I was able to leverage it in a lot of ways. So I think it's really important because a lot of people come to us and you know, I talk to a lot of people who want to be a paid speaker, but what they're talking about actually is going to be very hard to get paid. Like the biggest, the biggest payers, and this is where Sarah really has deep expertise, are going to be corporations typically. So if Your topic doesn't lend yourself to a, you know, to corporations bringing you in, then writing. Just because you've written a book doesn't mean you're going to get paid to speak. So think about what success looks like for you and really get clear and make sure you're actually creating a book that is going to get you where you want to go.
Having that direction in the book from the very beginning is going to be super important.
Yeah.
And that was just one tip.
I know.
Imagine the value of book launch. That's just one tip.
And I tell them, like, be short. And then I take 10 minutes. I'm like, keep it to that point. Keep it to that point. Sorry. Okay, so I'm going to go back here. So Dave had asked, how long does your average book take? From outline to publishing, everybody's different. So our process is, we're a membership based service. One professional works on your book at a time. If you're at our platinum level, which is where the majority of our clients are, and it will take somewhere from nine to 15 months, some people take longer and some people go a little shorter, but not much, it's really pretty typical. You're going to land somewhere in there. And a lot of this comes to how fast you make decisions, how much time you spend getting ready for your launch, how much time you spend second guessing your cover. Little things like that can really add up over time, but that's kind of the ballpark where the majority of people seem to land. Let's see, what was the first tip? I don't know, Mary. We'll have to go back and watch the replay, Right?
Yeah, Right.
Kevin gave us a. He gave us a question to ask for the next prize. What's the name of Dale's cat? That's not gonna work. Okay, so congratulations, Brian.
Yay.
Always learning. You know the answer to Kelly publish. Oh, yeah. To the name of Dale's cat. Wow. Clip that tip. That one would be a great standalone video. All right, sell it, Tim. They're all laughing at Tim falling asleep of me talking. That's awesome. Thanks for everybody's support. You guys are great. Okay, I have a question. Is there. This might be a really in the woods? Yeah, this might be. Actually, I don't think we're gonna be able to answer this one, but if Jacqueline can answer in one minute or less, we'll answer it. Otherwise, we'll have to table it. What is it? Yeah, it says, is there a loophole of how to publish books on Amazon, KDP in Russia or Other supported languages. Is there any hope news that these languages will be back to kdp? I don't think you're gonna. Dale. Actually, if anybody on here knows, it might be Dale.
Yeah, I don't know this one.
We focus on North America. We get distribution in English speaking countries for our clients, but we don't really do anything outside of the English language focused distribution. It's hard enough to do the English distribution right now. All right.
Though I do know that our IngramSpark distributors can get distribution basically anywhere in the world.
Yep.
I know you're asking specifically about Amazon, but if you're willing to open up what distribution channel you're looking at, I would investigate ingramspark a little bit further. That would be my first stop to investigate this.
Great. Thank you. And Minister Jace, I think. Minister Jace.
Minister Jace.
And Darm. Dharm. Dharmsa. Okay, there we go. Hello. Welcome. Okay, so we're going to give away another prize. And my next YouTube video just arrived and the editor just popped up in the corner with the next YouTube video. Okay, so our next. Our next prize is going to go to. Let's see, a skill testing question I'm going to ask. I'm going to go on a personal one here and I'm going to say what is the name of my husband who is also. He's also here today. So you can cheat. And he's also often appearing in our videos. So he does little outtakes and funny little excerpts for the videos. So there you go. First person to answer that. And actually bonus points to Dale, who I didn't even say what the prize was yet. Dale. So you can actually pick. So yeah, he gave. He actually said Dave's YouTube channel. So I gotta give him credit for that. So we're gonna give that prize to Dale. So you can choose whatever we've talked about today. The mugs, the journal. I think you've already got the mug. You can pick a hoodie. We've got medium, we've got large and. Or we've got books. So I think I know what you're gonna pick. So you can let me know. Let's see. Thank you for the answer. Love your channel. Very helpful. You're welcome. And then Dale actually gave you. Loopholes insulate cheating your way into the system. So I'd say there's no loophole. Yes, eventually and 100% agreed, IngramSpark would be your avenue. And then Kevin chimed in as well. Kevin's over in Europe, so he would have. I should have thought of you, Kevin. Thank You. No Amazon in Russia or Ukraine. We have Roseca in Ukraine. It's like Amazon Lite, but no self publishing. They do deliver alcohol, though. Good to know. Priorities.
I'm on Amazon for sure.
All right, so Queen jb. Hey, that's like. It's like Queen jb, Julie Rod. All right, we're gonna be friends, so welcome. Okay, so that's kind of those pieces. I'm trying to think. If anybody else has any other questions, we'll answer those questions. Otherwise, we have a few more prizes, and we'll just move on to those prizes, and then we're gonna. When we wrap up, I've asked everybody to prepare a question that they think every author should be asking. And I've already kind of used my question as a tip, so I messed myself up there. But they didn't. This is. This is where they're. This is why they work on the books. And I don't. I have to remember what mine was. Okay, so prizes.
We.
I want to celebrate a couple of book launches, and unfortunately, I don't have one of these, the books that we. That just launched. But I want to give some shout outs here. So at the start of the month, I think I'm doing this in order. So earlier this month, Robert Workman released Hired Gun 2. So yay, Robert. So this will be. One of you guys can choose between these books. We'll give away a couple of books, and you guys can choose. So this is one. So this is for salespeople. Do you want to. Who wants to kind of give a quick. Do you have a quick blurb on?
Sure.
So hired Done two is from Robert Workman, who is a sales trainer with over 40 years of experience. And it is a follow up to his very successful Hired Gun one. And this is not a boring sales book. This is a way to navigate business politics and also make sure that being the top salesman doesn't mean you lose your job, which can happen in sales. So this is a great follow up.
To his first book. I see why she's the marketer. I'm a man of pitches. All day, I'm like, look at this pretty book. And this guy's awesome. I love him.
Does anybody know the name of the title of his third book?
Oh, that's. I don't even know that one.
Hired Gun three.
It's not. I'll be quiet. It's actually not, but that was a good. Very good guess. So. So congratulations, Robert. And this will be one of the books that you can choose from for our next Prize. And, Dave, can you help me come up with a question to ask people an appropriate question, please? Okay. And the next one is Joyful Courage by Casey o'. Rourke. So yay. And actually, I don't know if she was next or if Tom was next, but it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter who's in order, so yay, Casey. And, you know, you did such a great job, so please take it away.
So Casey is our parenting expert. She's positive discipline trainer and runs the very popular podcast Joyful Courage. And this book is about calming the drama and taking the emotional and sometimes very frustrating responses out of parenting so you meet closer with your kids and family.
Fantastic. Love it. And Ms. Amber said, I love how quickly she jumped in with the blurb shows. You guys have a rapport with the writer. Speaks volumes of your business.
Oh, well, thank you very much. Yeah, I spent a lot of time on them, so it takes. At this point, once I'm mid pitch.
On people, I can just rattle off. It's true. And this was not prepped, so they didn't know. Like, I gave them. We talked for five minutes. This is, like, the extent of their notes. This is what we're gonna do, guys. We're gonna give away prizes. You guys are gonna give tips, and we're gonna ask a question. Like, literally, that's the prep. So, yeah, for those of you watching, I know a few of you are in the job interview process with us right now. We need people who can think on their feet, jump in where needed. Yeah. Problem solved. Yeah.
I want to read it.
You should. It's a great book.
It really is very touching.
Yeah, it's awesome. Okay, so the third and not final, we have one other that I don't have here to show you is from Tom Gabor. It's called Enough. And again, Sarah's doing so awesome with this. We'll just give it over to Sarah.
Tom Gabor is a criminologist and professor with over 40 years of experience in criminal justice, especially studying gun violence. And so this is a book chock full of solutions that are actually tangible things that we can can do to end the gun violence issues here in the United States. So it's a fascinating book. Really, really geared towards anyone who wants to make a change or knows lawmakers and change agents that have the capability to. So good one there too.
This is one of those books where I'm like, come on, Tom. Like, let's get it everywhere. I mean, I want everybody's book everywhere, but, you know, the stats. The stats on the gun violence were. The media kit that you put together is standard.
Congrats again. Thank you, Jean.
Okay, bye, Jean.
Thank you.
And then the third or fourth book that we have that I actually don't have physical copy here is Alka Dillon. We actually launched an audiobook version of the print book that she's had out for a little while.
So, Alka Dillon, she is known as the spiritual CEO. She is the founder and CEO of a tech company based in Virginia, and she is a CEO who has found ways to diffuse complicated, frustrating, and all sorts of leadership challenges you have through meditation, yogas, affirmations, and ways to elevate your spiritual evolution while elevating your business and success.
This is for Sarah. Fantastic. Okay, so Dave has posted a question. Where is Book Launchers headquarters located? Like, AKA where. Where are we right now? We're in Book Launchers headquarters. So what is the city? And you can choose one of these three books. The first one I'm going to.
I'm gonna go. I see Mary first.
Yeah, I see Mary first with la, but I'm actually gonna wait to see if somebody has the actual address because.
Whoa.
Okay, I'm gonna see and, you know, I'll give you a minute hint.
It's at the bottom of the email announcing this live stream.
That's true. Good. Good hint. Yep. So, yes, we are in Los Angeles. However, if you are familiar with Los Angeles, nobody actually lives in Los Angeles. Nobody actually works from Los Angeles. So actually, our former office was Los Angeles, Wilshire, Wilford, la. No. Good guess though, Jim. Very specific. It is very specific. Somebody's actually pulled the address.
Okay, we'll go with the city.
Well, yeah, we're going for city. We did ask for city, so. But if you've got that Minister J, you're there. Sweet 300. Love it. Winner. Oh, it does say Los Angeles.
It does.
You're right. Okay, you know what? Now I'm at a. Now I'm at a loss. So you know what, Mary? I'll give you a prize. Mr. Chase, I'll give you a prize. And Ms. Amber, I'll give you a prize, too. So what I'm gonna do is. Yeah, Mary, Mr. Jace and Ms. Amber. So you guys can see. Pick. You can pick from these books or you can choose a journal. Okay, There you go. So, journal. So email teamoklaunchers.com and let me know your mailing address and what you want. Okay, so the books, again, were enough, in case you want enough, or Joyful Courage or Hired Gun to. Okay.
All super useful. And you guaranteed you know someone in your life who needs one of these books.
Absolutely. They're great books. Highly, highly recommend them. Ms. Amber. Joy.
Joyful courage.
Great.
A little one with odd.
Yeah, absolutely. Awesome. So still, email us@teamokonschurch.com and let us know your mailing address. And just remind us. Sarah's writing it down.
Minister J's. Just let us know.
Perfect.
And I'll write it down too.
All right, so Dale gave up his hoodie. So we have two hoodies. We have a medium and a large left to give away. And. And, yeah, I could draw a name. Actually, you know what? Why not? Let's give it to one of my YouTube besties. So we'll do one of that, and then we'll do. We'll come up with probably another number to reward the people who are here live hanging out. So we'll figure that out. Okay. So thank you, Dale, for giving that up. I know you want one, though. I know. I know you're. You're anxious to get your hands on one of these, but thank you for that. Okay, so let's give it to Tim, actually. Or no, we did that last time. Undo. You. It was the. Were you sitting there?
This is a client with a book that's coming out soon.
It's Talita. Oh, yay, Talita. I don't think she's here live today. No. But we're gonna have a fun time marketing that book. Yeah. And likely she's going with. With a medium, so we probably have a large left to give away.
Yeah, I would expect.
I would expect she's gonna go medium. So. So yay, Talita. Congratulations. Hopefully you're tuning in live. If not, I'll shoot you an email. Or we'll just drop this in the mail and you'll go, what's this for? Okay. We just like to make our clients feel good. That's right. Okay. I'm just checking all the. You are a devoted follower. So Dale said, I felt bad because I feel like your devoted followers deserve it more. Dale is one of the best supporters around here, so thank you for that. Okay. And if you're here and you haven't smashed that like that thumbs up button, I mean, truly try it. It feels good. That's right. Who was the third book? The spiritual one that would have. That was by Alka Dillon. Oh, yeah, yeah. That was the fourth book. Yeah.
Good.
I forgot to mention the title.
The ALM Women's Guide to Leadership from Alpha Dylan.
Yeah. Thank you. Okay. So I'll let aside. Let's see, I'm going to choose another number, and that will be to. To reward the live person to get the large hoodie that is left. And then we've got a last round of tips and we'll do one more. One more mug journal prize. Okay, so that's where we're at. And of course, if you have other questions in the meantime, you can ask those. But let's pick a number. What number do you want to go with, Sarah? What number do you want to count to, Sarah?
11.
11.
I'm a lucky number.
Wait, that'll get us right back into. Well, yeah, that'll work.
That'll work. So 11 from the bottom. From. Actually, you know what? I'm going to give you guys the next minute on my clock up here to comment so that you can then be in there. So go ahead, comment away. Give yourself a shot at being the winner.
Oh, where are we going to start it from?
That's where we're going to wait. I'm going to wait and then I'm going to call it. We're not going to see. You guys are going to type away a random number generator for a random number. Yeah, that's a good idea. One to 20. Sure. Yeah. How do I do that? Yeah. So we're taking back the 11 because we see what you're doing, Brian. Okay, so Minister Jace will take the journal, so email us@teamoklaunchers.com for that. And Brian, no cheating. That's right. I think we're gonna count those. The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 as one. Just so you know. Yep. And the nine. A coffee mug would make my coffee very happy. Chris Niles, author.
Yay.
Hey, Katie. Yay. I don't know if we saw you before. I don't think we said hello to you if we did. Okay, so we're gonna go 10 more seconds. So I'm gonna count one. She has to count with her fingers. Just so you know. You guys can't see that. I'm counting with my fingers. But I was. Okay, so this is all gonna go from poetry. From the heart, whatever number you've picked.
I picked 11 from poetry. Okay, here we go. So we're going up. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
She also is a finger counter.
Oops, lost my spot.
Here we go. Automatic update. Plus I can show Brian. Hey, Brian, you finally get some no boring books swag. It's still not the mug or the journal, so you're still gonna have to comment on my videos. To win that. But congratulations. Hopefully the large fits because that's what's left. All right, so email us@teamoklaunchers.com to win that. Okay, so it's out of focus. We're out of focus, really. Hopefully it's just you over in the Ukraine. Okay, so I am going to turn it back over to each person on my team. They're going to tell you a question that they think every author should be asking before they start writing a book. And then we're going to do one last draw and that's about it. So thank you for being here. And we're not quite done Stoneleaf yet, but I'm just really happy that so many people could join us and celebrate 10,000 subscribers. And thank you for your support, your comments, your thumbs up, your shares growing. The channel has been so much fun. Thanks to all of you fantastic YouTube supporters and viewers. So thanks for that. Okay, so let's just. I'll leave it to you guys. I'll just stand up and one of you sit here. Yep. Report.
I am volunteering as tributes. So I have a lot of authors come to me and say, I want my book to be on a bookshelf. And so if that is your goal, do you really want that? Then you need to distribute in places other than Amazon. Bookstores don't want to give money to Amazon to order your book, so you need to be able to distribute your book in other places. So we load books to IngramSpark. And if you really want your book to be on a bookshelf, you also have to have a marketing plan to get people to go to the store and buy your book and not buy it through Amazon. So there's a lot of things to consider. And bookstores are going to want more money from you than Amazon necessarily would take from your royalties as well. So there's a lot of things to consider. But if you're version of success like Julie was just talking about is that you want to have your book for sale in Barnes and Noble or chapters in Canada, you need to have a plan and you need to physically, you know, have your book in places where bookstores will want it rather than giving money to the giant gorilla of Amazon. So there we go. That's my big question that you need to think about before you load your book and publish it, is, you know, do you want to have wider distribution?
Who's next? And there's a video coming out on Tuesday about your wholesale discount that will help you get bookstore distribution. Yep, true story. Good Timing. I don't have my video editor, so I'll just do it live.
All right, who's next?
Okay, chair moving. Okay, this is the question. Just for book publishing or just question. Any question.
Before they write their book.
Yeah, before you write your book. How can I work with Tim as my writing coach? Would be my question. I knew there were antlers coming. Okay. No, actually, the question would be it's a very. It's a very competitive market out there. So you want to find out. I'm sure you know, you have a lot of great information. How can you differentiate what is it about you that is different from the other people who are selling books in your genre? So I would say the number one thing you question you want to ask yourself is, how am I different? How did I get here even? And yeah, what was it that made me want to write this book? And usually asking those questions can find out, can make you find out how you can differentiate yourself. Because that's going to be critical because they're going to have a lot of choices of people as you're trying to promote your book, and they're going to have a lot of choices of people they can go to. And you want to be able to say, well, this is why I'm different. So that's the question I would ask.
Fantastic.
Thanks. I am up.
So.
I would say the best question for any author to ask themselves before they write their book is to know who you are writing for. That doesn't mean to change your content or the message you want to put out there. That means have in mind audience that is going to be buying your book. So I get a lot of authors and a lot of people in general, like, my book is for everybody. Everybody will be really interested in my story. Well, that means marketing is going to be extremely important, extremely difficult. So really hone in on the groups of people that will get the most from your book, and then that will help feed your marketing plan. Is it people over 40? Which group over 40? Is it business people who are starting a business for the first time? Is it moms? Is it, you know, who is it? Hone in on who that audience is. And then keep that in mind when you were doing all your marketing.
Awesome. You can see there, I think, some questions.
So if you don't mind just, oh, I got questions. What is my best advice for nonfiction authors? Well, I just gave one of them earlier on in the stream. I gave my other big tip, which was knowing how to play to your strengths when it comes to marketing. Really Go with where you feel the most comfortable and to not adapt a bunch of different marketing strategies just because you've heard it's a good idea. So that's some of my other ones.
I think up here I saw Mary say. Mary said, why is it all about money, not about content if it is a great book?
Well, that is a really good question. I can feel part of this one. You guys can chime in. Part of the reason it's about money is because publishing books is a business and a bookstore wants to know that they are going to get money for your book being on their shelf. And as much as content, and a great book is going to help sell the book, the bookstore is going to be very concerned with what they're getting in return.
It has very limited space.
They have shelves.
There's a lot of competition in every single space. So if they can't see that your book's going to move faster than someone else's, I. They're not gonna stock it.
And I mean, truthfully, there are a lot of great books that aren't selling and it's because the author doesn't have a great marketing plan. So a great book is not enough anymore. There's too many books. There's not enough bookstores. Their margins have been squeezed by Amazon. So it really comes down to the best marketer and an extremely well marketed book, well positioned, that's kind of mediocre inside, will actually do better than an extremely well written book that has no marketing. It's, it's really, really didn't used to be the case, but that is the. Where we are today. Yeah. And then I saw, let's see, Ghostwriter, you. Scary. Okay, what about airports? I've heard getting on the shelf at airports is more difficult than. Yeah, I mean, a lot of the airport space, I mean we actually have. Oh, God. Right.
No, I'm talking about, I'm talking about Bob and what he's done, his previous goals and when he's continued.
Okay, well, you can tell I'm just gonna kind of give. So a lot of the space in airports is purchased, so it is harder to get airport space. That said, we do know people who are getting airport space. It just takes legwork. It takes them digging it. That's an important place to be. You can get there, you can buy your way there, or you can do a lot of work to get in there.
So Bob Workman, who did the Hired Gun too, which we talked about earlier, he did a phenomenal job at his first book, which came out 20 years ago by going to all the airports directly and talking to the managers and then managed to have the most have his book sold in every airport from Miami to Alaska. Now nowadays the buying processes are different. So it does take getting to know the distributors and knowing where those airports are getting their books from.
But there's always exceptions. Like Gautam got his book. I don't know if you guys can see that in the Omaha airport in time for the Berkshire Hathaway big annual meeting. And his book is perfect target audience for that. He has a letter from Warren Buffett in the book. So yeah, so there are exceptions. And if you're willing to dig in and do the legwork, distribution anywhere is possible if you have it set up. Right. So I saw somebody mentioned you need an ISBN. There's a lot of things I've talked about on this channel already that will help you get books to store distribution, if that's important to you. Yes.
Okay.
Yeah, sure. Let's see. You got your best advice already covered.
Let's see. Can you say some words on copyright issues?
I have two videos out that will cover copyright. None of us are copyright lawyers. I just authored the video I put up two days ago on author's insurance touches on it. And then there's actually a video on fair use that has a very detailed ebook that I highly recommend you read if you want to have more information on copyright own effect. If we order from IngramSpark Medium Large, both for me. Okay. I don't think he won. We're out of hoodies. I'm afraid we're out of goodies. Okay. I think. Is that all the questions that came in? Oh wait, Brian. How will buying copies of your own book to sign at local events affect the Amazon algorithm?
Well, I think actually Jacqueline might be better to speak on this one.
Well, it depends on if you're buying it from Amazon. As someone who is buying the book at full retail price, it'll move the rank on the algorithm. If you are buying it at the discounted rate, then then it has no effect whatsoever.
But ideally for an author of it, an author would not be buying from Amazon. They would buy from the.
Well, if they are only loaded to kdp, then they would get their wholesale or the print cost for the book.
And there is a certain point and nobody's really clear on this. And Dale and Kevin, if you're still here, you might have some insights on this. But at a certain volume point, Amazon doesn't count it as 10. Excuse me, 10 books purchased. It's like the captain is one. So, yeah, you'd have to be ordering one at a time and even potentially shipping to different addresses in some cases. Nobody really knows.
And Amazon also does tricky things when they see that you are the buyer. So they. And you're the author. If you're buying it from your own account, they don't count that the same as other people are buying.
It's. Yes, Dale, exactly right. It's weird.
And they have their own method of doing things.
Yeah, yeah. Do you have to register the trademark logo for imprint, like your self publishing name? That's a choice. I mean, that's. Again, this is. Yeah, sure. I'm talking over. I'm yelling her ear and you know, all kinds of awkward things.
You guys are really here to see Julie.
No, they're not. I'm gonna back up so I don't feel so big.
I could be like Tim.
Tim got right in your face, didn't you? Okay, so I forgot the question. What was I talking about?
Registering your trademark.
Oh, yeah. So these are choices that you make based on where you think it's going to go as far as I'm concerned. Like the whole point. Let's see who's got one here. I don't see any on the spine. Here we go. Jillian does. Yeah. So the whole point of this logo, I don't know if it's going to come through very well. It's not on the back. Anybody else have one?
Todd and Allison both have some too.
Okay, here we go. So here's Todd's. So there's a logo. So that's what he's talking about, the self publishing logo there. To me, the point of that is to look like a professionally published book. You know, if you have grand plans of turning your publishing company into a giant imprint or the logo has something to do with your bigger business, maybe it's worth trademarking something. You can decide if it's worth the time, effort and expense because trademarking does have a price tag. Okay. Darn. Saw upcoming. Don't worry. Good to know.
Do we know who that is?
Nope, I don't know who that is.
But good, I'm glad to hear it.
I'm also a fan of self publishing with Dale Video, since you're here to tell you that's great, Brian. Yeah, I'm a big fan of Dale, too. Okay, give your neighbors 10 bucks and have them buy it. Yeah, you can. If you can afford that. Go ahead, Ms. Marketing and Public. I'm upcoming. Don't worry. How much does it Cost to trademark, I have no idea. It can vary, I think, by state and what you trademark. I think it varies, too. I'm Canadian, guys, and I'm not a trademark attorney.
So I kind of want to go.
Back to that other question about buying books because it sounds like he's trying to game the Amazon system. And if you are trying to game Amazon, Amazon will catch it and penalize you for it. So if you're gonna spend your energy on, you know, coming up with these sort of things, you really want to put it into marketing and to have a push for a bunch of people to buy a book in a very short period of time. And if you can get that to happen, you don't necessarily have to hit number one in your category. Amazon will game themselves because they want to sell more of your book. So all of a sudden, you'll see yourself in a category you've never seen before, and it'll say, you're the number one new release in this larger category. Or it'll discount your book and you'll still earn the same amount of money. But Amazon saying, oh, I'm going to drop the price a dollar or two and make it on sale. That's money they lose out of their pocket. You still earn the money, but they're trying to convert the traffic that's already looking at you, your book. So it's not all you trying to outwit Amazon. It's you trying to drive traffic to Amazon, and then Amazon will game itself to sell your book.
All right, awesome. Great stuff. Okay, guys, so I think that's. Can you say something about copyright? We kind of touched on that a little bit. If you're talking about filing for copyright, that would be Jacqueline, who just stood up. Let me see. Great advice, banana sticker. Thanks, Dale. All right, so I'm gonna wrap this up because I did want to be done by 3:30. We have more team meetings to take place today. Yay for my team. Right? They're going, oh, we need a pose.
Yeah, this should be our thumbnail, actually.
Yeah, this should be our thumbnail. Yeah. Somebody. Somebody grab a screenshot of this. And the back. Yeah. Oh, yeah, the back. Thank you. Okay, so we are. We have a final prize. It'll be a journal or a mug. And let's see, what should we do? I was kind of thinking, like the person who commented the most, but that's harder for us to figure out fast.
Don't start.
Comment.
Don't start.
Don't. Brian. Yeah, no numbers. Let's see what else could we do. I'm open to ideas, guys. Dale, how. How should we choose this final winner? Because I know even if you won, you weren't going to take it. So you can decide who is our final winner of the day, and you have to be live here to win this final prize, so. And Brian's now going to do letters or a fabulous book launchers mug that makes coffee taste better. I mean, how many mugs can you say that about, right?
That would be Dale mug comments.
Probably would. Or Brian, but. Good one. I like that. Okay, so Dale says, name three different prizes awarded today. That is a great one. So three different prizes awarded today.
That is a good one, Dale. Thank you.
Great, great question. So the first person to name three different prizes. And you know what? One of them needs to be a name of one of the books. That's my caveat. One of them needs to name one of the books.
I think you should hold up books.
Nope, I'm not gonna.
Full Courage, Green Wizard, Pleasure of fear in the Jacket.
You know what? That's pretty darn close.
Amber did already win.
You did already win Mug, book jacket. I'm just. I'm thinking you're gonna win Ms. Amber, but you already did win one, so I'm kind of just gonna see bad memory. This is to see who is paying attention. Not just like I did.
I just like answering.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Thank you. Yeah, we like these. We just got ours today, and I'm sporting it all summer.
I've had mine for a few weeks, and I've been so careful to make sure I haven't had any pictures or videos taken in mine, so. And Dave wanted to take pictures. He's wearing one, and he's been taking, like, don't post those. My team. My team hasn't got theirs yet. Okay. I just disqualify myself.
Mary said courage, mug, and journal.
Chris.
All right, Chris. Yay. All right, so, Brian, you missed your moment, man.
I know. This is your shot.
You could have won a mug. Does Chris get to choose? Yeah, Chris, you can choose a mug or I just about held up my cell phone or a journal. Okay, so let us know and email atteam tam booklaunchers.com and that's. That's almost precisely a wrap. Although we started a few minutes late. So thank you, everybody for being here, for having the celebration with us. Thank you to my team, who rock you guys. Just got a sample of their brilliance today. So, yeah, I'm very, very grateful for them and really glad that you guys got to have a chance to spend a little bit of time with them and see why, you know, I know what I'm talking about. But really, we make you look really good, they make me look really good. And then my biggest editor really makes. You're seeing this raw and uncut right now. You guys know what's for real and.
Big hand for Julie, you know, 10,000 subscribers.
And thank you to all of you for making 10,000 possible. And, you know, I guess we're going for 50,000 and then 100,000 from here. So those are obvious.
Okay?
So thank you for that. So thank you, everyone for being here. It's been a blast. And we'll see you back on YouTube on Tuesday. We'll be back with a brand new video on wholesale discount which will help you get in bookstores. All right, see you guys. Bye, everybody.
Bye, everyone.
All right.
