Get Your Book in the Local Library | Livestream

Julie Broad walks through how self-published authors get physical books into local libraries. You don't need Library of Congress listing. The process: target specific libraries, propose author events tied to their programming, get library members to request your book, and make sure it's listed in WorldCat.

All right. Hello, hello. Happy Tuesday. Today's topic is local libraries. I'm really excited about this one. I'm gonna call it Little Known facts about getting your self published book into your local library. I have this video and sorry, I'm just gonna remove this little message that's popping up here. I have a video on the YouTube channel that is all about how to get your book into the local or into the library. And the video is a little misleading. At least the titling of the video is misleading in that the video is really about getting your book listed in the Library of Congress. And so I'm going to update that video for 2022 to make it very clear that this is how to get your book into the Library of Congress in 2022. And, and then also they've changed a bit of the process there. So I'm going to update the whole thing and I'm also going to give you guys this really cool content today on getting your book into your local library. Because there was a lot of questions on that video that were really like, okay, so if I don't, if I haven't done this Library of Congress listing, can I still go into libraries and, and you know, lots of things like that. So this is to clarify and also to share some really cool content that I haven't shared in this, in this order. This, this process that we have created at Book Launchers on getting your book into your local library. So make sure you've got a pen and paper handy because I'm going to walk you through this process. And it's something at Book Launchers that we were starting to do pre Covid. Covid hit and we pulled kind of all live appearances out of the, you know, out of what we were doing and we, we shifted everything to online. We're now adding this back into the process. If you are a Book Launchers client, this is going to be part of, you know, really what we do with you January and beyond. But it is something that we're building the back end of doing all of these things and more. But for all of you YouTube friends and my besties, this is the steps that you can take to do it yourself. And while you've got your pen and paper and you're joining, please say hello, let us know where you're from and you know, all the things and you know, let me just point out that I've got some new swag on here. Let's just show you. There we go. So this is some new swag that's Coming out. So the proud noteboringbooks author, of course, our little logo here. I actually think you guys can tell me. Sorry. I know. It's a weird view, isn't it? Got mouth and T shirt. But this logo right here, I think I'm going to take it from there. There. My husband thinks this is too busy, so I'm thinking we'll take it off of there and then put it on the sleeve. So what do you think? Anyways, I've got one of these to give away today because I got red and black samples before we do the large order that we'll order. The large order that we'll order. So. Hello. Let's see who's in the house. We got Mike here. You were first. Yay. Angela's here. Of course. Angela is with the Book Launchers team. She'll be collecting your questions and giving them to me at the end. And then, then we've got Poetry from the Heart. Hello. Efren's in the house. Bill. Mojo. Mojo. I just saw the edited version of the book where I showcase your Amazon page. I think it's coming out next week. I'm excited. Matt, hey, great to have you here. Debbie is from Toronto, Canada. Always love seeing my fellow Canadians. Happy Thanksgiving this weekend. We're having another family over on Sunday to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving. And Mike thinks the sleeve idea is great. Bill says move to the sleeve as well, so that's great. And hello, Dr. Russ. Great to have you here too. All right, folks, let's dive into this library conversation because I think this is a good one now. Oh, wait, before I do that, you can also win swag. This month in October, we are going to give you some swag. This super new T shirt. The other way to win is is buy. And this is for all of you fabulous YouTube folks who've already won your Noboringbook swag. Post it on social media somewhere. Cool. I put a picture of the no Boring books backpack out in the hills of Utah. I was there with my son hiking on the weekend, and I had my backpack and it was sitting there in the sand with the beautiful red rocks in the Mountains in St. George, Utah. And so I took a picture and I was like, we need to see where else the hashtag no boringbooks swag is hanging out. So post a picture, tag us on Instagram or Facebook. And at the end of the month, I'm going to pick my two favorite pictures. We're going to send you a T shirt. So go ahead and do that. I'll post A few more details on social media in the next couple days. But I know a lot of you watching this right now, you've got your swag. So take whatever swag you've got and put it in somewhere cool. Tag us. And that will be another way that we're going to send a little swag, swag out this month. Okay? So if you're just joining today, I'm sharing some fresh new content on getting your book into your local library. The confusion in this whole subject came up from me explaining how to get your book listed in the Library of Congress. And just a quick recap, the Library of Congress catalog control number. So the LCCN is not required for every book. It's not necessary to establish copyright or, or to sell your book in the US it's not necessary. It's desirable. And so generally I recommend, especially with a nonfiction book, but with all books that you may go through that process if you're interested in getting this listing. The LCCN number, I guess that's redundant, isn't it? The LCCN is what you get when you get your Library of Congress listing. That said, it's not guaranteed that you'll even get it. And I was just checking some of the facts and prepared preparation for this shoot today and I saw in two different places, but no source given, but I saw two different places basically saying that it's projected that about 25% of the books sent to the Library of Congress actually get the Library of Congress listing. So it is not that common that the books sent there are getting into the listing or getting that listing. If you are successful, you'll get a cip, a catalog in publication, which is basically a bunch of data. You'll get that. But you can also buy or pay a cataloger to produce this for your book as well. When you do that, it will be easier for libraries and even bookstores to carry your book because it has some important information in it, which I'll touch on in a sec. But if you get that Library of Congress listing, you'll automatically get the CIP data. And when you get that data, you'll need to update your copyright page with that data. It's basically a block of catalog data is what it is. If you open up, you know, a very popular, traditionally published book, you'll probably see what I'm talking about there. Not as common in indie or self published books and not guaranteed even if you're traditionally published, by the way. Okay, so if they do add your book, it'll be cataloged you'll get that CIP data and want to add that to your copyright page. The good news is that you don't have to be in the Library of Congress to be in libraries. And this was kind of where the confusion in my video, because I titled it how to get into Libraries, and then I talked about getting into the Library of Congress. It made it seem like you had to be in the Library of Congress to be in libraries, which you do not. You don't even need the PCIP or the. Which is the publisher's catalog in publication data. You don't even necessarily need that, but it is advantageous to have it. But, you know, it's one of those things where you don't need the Library of Congress listing to be in libraries. So this is the process. Get your book into libraries, which I'll share in a second. I just want to pause here because I've thrown a lot of like cip, pcip, lcc. And you guys. Confused. Are you following? You're good. Let's see. I'm just checking, you guys. Library of Congress sounds both important and cool. Yeah. So, okay. Doesn't look like anybody's confused, so I'm going to carry on a bit confused. So. So essentially, let me just try to recap. Okay. So my video. Okay, forget about the past video. Library of Congress is somewhere that you. Is like a giant catalog. It's like kind of an archive of all books that are accepted into that listing to get submitted to the bigger catalog, which not guarantees your book will be in libraries, but it puts it in the catalog and makes it more likely that it'll be mass carried through libraries. The Library of Congress listing is very desirable. It's cool. It's like an archive. Your book will be in that archive because you have to physically send them a copy of your book. And that's when they decide whether it goes into this. This listing or not. It has nothing to do with copyright. Okay. Your book will still be copyrighted. Totally fine. You know, that's. That's a totally separate thing. But the. And that is where the LCCN number comes in and they give you a cip. Okay. So Library of Congress listing number, that's the lccn. And the CIP is the block of data for the library. You can buy the CIP or the pcip. They're called both things. You can buy that yourself. You can pay a cataloger to do that. So that's. You don't need the LCCN to get that. Okay. All that said you can still get in libraries without it. It's just easier if you have the CIP data. It makes libraries, libraries happier. It also ensures your book gets put on the right shelf. It catalogs it correctly, and I'll tell you why in a second. So hopefully, hopefully that clears it up. It's really, it's. The CIP is something to look at. If you are serious or you're going to roll out a library campaign for your book, you're going to want that. And you can usually, I think I've seen it for, you know, anywhere from $100 to like 150. A cataloger will do this for your book. Okay, so how to get in the library. Well, there's a few ways. The first is to put together an event for the local library. That's how my personal My book More than Cash Flow got into quite a few libraries in the beginning. And then it went way more widespread from there. But, but what I did was I did a talk or reading at a couple of local libraries. And then as I toured the country doing media and speaking, I reached out to local libraries and did events in those libraries as well. And every single time I did an event at the library, they bought, they actually always bought two copies of my book. And they just paid cash. They just, right there on site because I always was allowed to bring books to sell to the people who attended. They, they just bought two books right on site. And I usually, at the time I was charging $20 per book. So they paid me 40 bucks and off the book went into the library. And that happened every single library. So that's the first thing is to start to look at the most website. Most libraries have a website where they talk about their program. You can get a sense of the kind of programming. Do they do author readings? Do they do author events? Do they have panels? So, but what I do know is if you're local to that library, that library is inevitably interested in working with you because they're always looking for local authors. As I went across the country, I was still able to get featured because libraries are looking for programming. And if you do a lot of the work for them, in other words, if you produce posters or you're going to market on social or you're going to send to a newsletter list, they're interested in having you, especially if you can tie into a theme that they might have coming up. Library programming typically revolves around themes every single month. So that's part one is kind of think about that. Get into a couple of local Libraries by doing events. But the best thing you can do besides that is leverage your book army. And so, Angela, if you can grab the video that I have on your book army, we'll put that in the comments for you. But your book army is a great way to get your book into multiple libraries. And your book army is all over the country. And so they will be able to help you immensely. And so what you're going to do is. Well, I'll break the process down for you in a minute. I've got kind of a five. Let me just check my notes here. I've got four steps for you to follow. But your book army, really what you want are people who are members of their local library. And all they need to do is request your book. That's it. That's all they need to do. And then ideally, once your book is listed in that library, they borrow it so that the book is getting some activity on it. But that's, that's all it has to do is that library listing is really all you're going for. And libraries pay attention to member requests. Okay. So that's really key. So here's the, the step that you want to follow. Okay? So number one, make a list of the libraries in your area. So if you're in an area where maybe there's only one library, you know, what's the span of distance that you want to drive? You could consider that your local, your local area. Where I was on Vancouver island in Canada, for example, there was only one library in the city that I was in, but there was multiple libraries on the island that I was on. And then there was libraries on the mainland, Vancouver. So there was a lot of libraries that you could reach within a short, short reach, a short drive. So, so make your list, make five, make 10, whatever you want to do, but make a list of those libraries. And again, you want to look on their website. So step, so that's number one. Just make a list. Number two is look at their programming. So are there themes that you can tie your book into that are coming up? If you have just an angle or an opportunity or an idea that for a short talk that will be of interest to a wider audience. So what I mean by a wider audience is if you have a subject that is really niche. So I mean, a lot of people want to write a book, so that's an easier one for me. But my, my real estate investing book, for example, the local library wanted me to talk about buying a house, period. Cause that was going to be a Wider, a wider reach than somebody who wanted to invest. So my talk was how to choose a house. Typically in the libraries, I would talk about. I would talk about things that make a great house and things to watch out for which were applicable for investors as well as for home buyers who wanted to maximize their value when they purchased a home. So think about that wider audience space. When you pitch your library, the other thing you can do is connect. If you know with other authors that are in a similar genre as you, you guys can all get together and maybe do a little event for the library. The librarians work really hard. They have a lot on their plate. So the more you can do for them, the better. Which is why I said in the beginning, you want to start thinking about programming or not programming, how you're going to market it. So I created posters. In some cases I just had to send the design to them and they actually printed the posters for me. In other cases, I printed the posters and I put them around town. I found stores and places that would put the posters up. If you have access to a networking group or an email list or social media, you know, tell them how you're going to promote this event that you're putting on with them. So that's step two. This is all happening ideally pre launch, but you can do this at any time. A lot of my library events happened, you know, three to six months post launch. Really it was a tie in with their theme or being local or some other kind of angle. That was why they were having me in there pre launch. But if you are doing all this pre launch, you know, step three, three. And this can apply anytime, prelaunch or post launch. But ideally doing this pre launch is great. Get your book army activated to request your book at the local library. And it will be at their local library. But I want you to try to set up an event or two first. Because the ideal thing is that your book is being ordered or has been flagged or has been cataloged in WorldCat. And I'll tell you more about that in a second. But by you starting to generate interest in searching by the library by having an event there, you're hopefully getting that listing in WorldCat so that when you start to get people to request your book, it's already in WorldCat. The requests will also spur that on. It's just as the library decides whether to list your book or not, this WorldCat listing will be very helpful. So having done step one and two first, before you activate your book army can be a better Approach, you can do this in any order. There's no right way. But there's slight advantages to doing it in this order. So I've got a couple more tips here. I've got step four. I'm going to expand a little bit more on step three, but I just want to check in. And of course, we have prizes to give away today, too. Okay, so let's see here. I wasn't sure if a physical copy had to be sent. Yes, for the Library of Congress, you will have to send a physical copy. So, and again, that other video I have, which is how to get your book in libraries, which Angela can probably find and put the link here, it explains clearly how to get it into the or how to submit your listing and your book can't be published yet. Once it's published and it's final, you send the book in and that's when they decide. And then you'll update the copyright page afterwards if you are so lucky as to get it. Okay, Efren, that's so kind. Book Launchers is so thorough covering all bases. It's noticed. Thank you. I appreciate it. Do us Brits authors count for us to be included or is it USA Only? I mean, I did a lot of this in Canada and the same approach is the exact approach that we're using here in the US and so a lot of the, a lot of the little nuances are a little different. But I mean, if you're book is available through Ingram and you can be listed in an American library, the key is having somebody request your book. And you just can't be in the Library of Congress because you're not an American and you weren't published. It's not even that you're not American, it's that you're not publishing it in the US like you're physically not in the US as the author and the publisher, because that's really the requirement is in that case. So. So Self Publish and Succeed was the only book that I submitted to the Library of Congress because my other two books were published when I was in Canada. Hopefully that's clear, Mike. Let's see. Our libraries are still in significant decline. More computer and other services than books. Yeah, I mean, a lot of, a lot of the libraries here, I think, had a tough, really tough year. They're starting to come back. It remains to be seen what happens with them. I think there's still some hesitancy on people's parts to get books because of germs. I've heard that from some Family members that used to be very avid library goers. They're a little hesitant on libraries. But from others I know they're back in libraries at full steam. A lot of it shifted to online, which is where we love Draft 2 digital, because that gets your ebook listed in the library system. And so that has some, you know, it gets into publish, drive and some other things, which we've talked about before. I'm really talking about that physical book in the physical library, which I believe is maybe a slight decline. But that's also why they're so. They're so big on programming and featuring local authors and doing things that are bringing people back into their space again. And that's why I think this is a really perfect time to capitalize on this and to really be. Be there for those libraries and help them bring people back into their space. Okay. Hey, we Photogal, great to have you here. And meanwhile, there's like a full conversation over here on how Angela's move to Florida went. And. And we. Photogal said she didn't get her book. So Angela's on this. There have been some weird shipping things. And of course, if you ever win something and you don't receive it, feel free to email us@teamoklaunchers.com sometimes. Sometimes things just don't get delivered. Sometimes they take a wild detour. Like Kevin McGuire won something, and we, I mean, it took, I don't know, three months to get there, but it did finally get there. All right, so there's some other questions here, and. Hold on. I won't. I got distracted by the question. But Angela's going to collect the questions for me, and I'll just finish up with the libraries after we do a quick YouTube prize. So I do owe you guys four YouTube prizes this month because I was. I was at Fincon in Austin, Texas, and I had to miss the live stream. So we have eight, I believe it was eight videos of commenters that we have here. So first name. And of course, if you're new, every Tuesday and Friday, there's videos, including this one. And so if you comment the day a video is released, you get entered to win some of this hashtag noboringbook swag, which, when you get it, you can then post a picture on social media and win even more swag, like the brand new T shirt that I'm sporting today. Okay, so Today's winner is Dr. Kenesha. Oh, this is a new winner. I am 99% certain Dr. Kenesha has not won before, so. Woohoo. Congratulations, Dr. Kenesha. I don't know if you're here live today or catching this on the replay, but email us at Team or actually are. We been sending them direct to you, haven't we, Angela? Email Angela@AngelaokLaunchers.com or team to EAM at the launch with your mailing address and whether you would like our hashtag no BoringBooks mug or our oh so soft journal, neither of which I have beside me at the moment. So just use your imagination as to how spectacular both of those things are and let us know where to mail it to and what you want. And while I'm here, I'm going to do number two right now, and then we'll do a participation prize after I'm done. The fourth step. Okay, so our second winner of the day. Drumroll, please. Is Alan West. I feel like Alan has won everything there is to win until there were T shirts and something else. So we might slip you the new super secret Swag. Alan, we have not revealed this yet. Angela is the only person who has actually laid eyes on it. I know what it is because I had it designed and ordered, but I have not even had it yet. So, Alan, that's what we're going to send you. Angela, you can go ahead and pick. Alan, pick which version you want to send. Hopefully you know by my code what we're talking about. Okay? So. And thank you to all of you for your likes, comments, and shares on the channel. It's always greatly, greatly appreciated. So back to this library thing. So step three was getting your book army, or anybody in fact, to go that is a member. That's the key thing. The libraries pay attention to their members and their member requests. So getting the people that you know that have a library membership to go in and request. And here's where it doesn't matter if they're friends or family. This is not Amazon. There's no Terms of Service rules here. Friends and family that have library cards can go in and request your book. So get them to do that. Ideally, they. Ideally, they're able to tell you which libraries they requested it at and that they can tell you if it was successful or not as well. If it was not successful or even if it was, I highly recommend you then follow up and try to do some programming or connect with that library in some way, which is step four, which is getting a sell sheet out there and starting to promote yourself to libraries. So step four, I'm just checking my notes to make sure I didn't miss Anything? Yes. Okay, so ideally you're getting your book listed in quite a few different libraries and different library systems this way. And step four is once your book is carried in a few different regions and a few different libraries, make sure you explore that WorldCat listing. So go to WorldCat.org and I'll just drop that right here in the chat for you. So you know exactly what I'm talking about.org type that weird worldcat.org and that didn't come through as a link. Let me try again. So two of my books are on there. So you could search Julie Broad or you can search self publish and succeed or more than Cash flow, you have to scroll. They don't come up at the top, but just as an example. Or you can search to see if your book, if you've already published, if your book is there, what that means is somebody has physically put your book into the libraries in that system. And so what you want to do is after you know, your book has been carried in a library, so after you've done an event and, or it's been, you know, successfully requested and carried at a couple of libraries, go on there and make sure all the information is correct. And once it is, go to town, my friends, start promoting your book, start approaching libraries to get the book into more and more libraries. And there's, there's some different approaches. There is, it's recommended. We've, we've had, we've been doing a lot of research and connections with people and it's really recommended that you create a simple one page sell sheet that you can email or when you go into the libraries physically or in person, you've got this one page sell sheet, the one page sell sheet. I know you're wondering what should go on it and I will have a YouTube video where we show this in the future. So if you're watching this and you haven't subscribed to the channel and you're not on the launch letter, go to book launchers.com Sign up for our launch letter and make sure you've subscribed to the channel and turn those notifications on so you get this video. But really quick, what goes onto a sell sheet is your author name, your picture of your cover, your ideally a picture of you, your author location, your bio, some important links like your website, your social media, and then of course the metadata, right? All the juicy stuff, your formats that it's available in, your ISBN, your prices page count, bisect codes, categories, all that stuff and then where to purchase and they are. Libraries are not bookstores. Libraries will purchase from Amazon, they will purchase from Ingram Library Services and they do sometimes purchase from even Barnes and Noble or Bookshop or Book Source. So those are all places where they, they will purchase. So you need to list where it's available and they'll purchase it there. Short, you also want to have a short book description. Any accolades. If you've had a great career review or a great, some other kind of higher level reputable review service, you can put that in. And then definitely, definitely, if you are pitching any sort of local programming or anything, include your marketing, include highlights of your press, of your appearances, or any other marketing initiatives. But it's got to be short and sweet. But for the library, it's like bookstores, they want to make sure that they're bringing something that's in demand on their shelf. So you want to show them what you're doing to market it. Reviews or celebrity or higher, you know, influencer endorsements are also included. If you've written more than one book, it's worth putting that on this sell sheet as well. So that's your sell sheet. So that's getting into a local library. It's really as simple as, you know, building that slow momentum at first and then capitalizing on that momentum and getting it to go from there. I don't know exactly how many libraries are carrying more than cash flow, but I know that it's in a lot of libraries in Canada because I did a lot of these things. So it was really interesting to me as we've tested this with clients and we've done some research and we've talked to people whose job it is or was to get books into libraries for publishers, that this is the exact process. So this is what you have to do do. It's a bit of work. And the thing to know with libraries is you're getting paid for one book sale or two book sales and that's it for a bunch of people to read your book. But it can still be a great avenue to sell books, to get it out there. And for a lot of us authors, the library was always a special place to us, and it still might be. And so that can just be a great thing to do to give back to your community and to just feel like a real legit author. I mean, some of these things that we do, like getting your book into a bookstore, I mean that really, truly, it takes a lot of work, doesn't sell a ton of books, but it makes you feel like a real legit Author. And to me, being listed in libraries is another one of those things where if it happens to snowball and go well in libraries, you can sell a lot of books that way. But generally speaking, it's a lot of work for just a few books that will get out there. But it can also be really fun and rewarding to do that. So, phew. Let's hear the questions. I've got more prizes. I'll go check those out. I'm just checking to see do libraries have a policy against KDP authored works? So there is the need for the ISBN. And the ISBN with Amazon is a little funky in that it is. They might. I don't actually know precisely how that works because Amazon does give you an isp, but I think some local libraries may have an issue if it's not your own ISBN. And I don't know, I'd have to dive into that because we don't ever do KDP authored books. Right. We always have our authors go through the independent process of getting their own ISBN eBooks. Some of them choose to not have an ISBN and they just get an ASIN from Amazon. In that case, they cannot be listed listed anywhere but Amazon, because that's, that's a different beast. You can't get into draft to digital that way. So it's a whole different animal if you choose to do that for your ebook, for your physical book. I don't actually know that answer. Okay, so I'll let Angela collect these questions and, and the KDP one. I'll have to. We'll have to look into that one a little bit more. Again, that's not, that's not where I focused our research because our clients, clients aren't ever in that scenario. So sorry that I can't help you with that piece. Okay, so Angela, if you want to start collecting questions for me, I'll, I'll answer those while I do the next two prizes. And let's see, what, what was the coolest thing you learned today? That will be our participation prize for today. And today's participation prize is getting. You'll be the very first person to win the brand new. Actually, you'll be winning like a limited edition because when these come out to everyone, the, the logo will be on the sleeve. So you and myself and a couple of other people will get these preview editions which will be like, they'll be worth something on the market someday. Okay, they probably won't, but that is what today's participation prize will be. So. Okay, so share your favorite tip that you Learned today while I do the next two YouTube draws and, and then we'll do questions. Okay, so here we go. So every Tuesday and Friday we put your name. When you comment. The the day a video comes out, we put your name into a draw and you get to win. Oh, you also can choose from Self publish and succeed. So you can win a copy of my book, you can win a mug, or you can win a journal and. Or if you're my curd and you've won everything, maybe you also want to get the new super secret swag, but let us know. Mike, I think, I think you're still here. So Mike, congratulations. You are the other winner. Your winner, number three for today. What would you like? Because I'm pretty certain that you have everything. So let us know. Okay, so I got to do one more draw. So here we go. I'm picking another random name from the draw. Here we go. Drumroll, please. And the winner is doctor or not, Dr. Linda K. Lee. Congratulations. Thank you so much for your comments, likes and shares. Linda, please email us@AngelaokLaunchers.com with your mailing address and whether you would like a copy of self published and self Succeed, our no Boringbooks mug or our oh so soft journal. Thank you so much and congratulations. Okay, questions. Angela says my first question is Sir Seuss. Hey, great to have you here. I may have misheard something about needing someone to request the book at the library in order for them to stock the book. Is that true? Yes. It's not, it's not the only way to get in the libraries. I kind of covered a bunch of ways, a handful of ways to get in libraries, programming, approaching them, having cell sheets. But yes, one of the most tried and true ways to get your book into libraries, especially as a self published author, is to have library members go to the library or online. Because a lot of libraries, you can request books online and then go into the physical, the physical library and pick them up. They can request your book. It is a tremendously effective way. So having friends, family, clients, colleagues, YouTube besties, having them request the book at the local library is one of the best ways to get your book listed and carried at the local library. Okay, so Mike wants the new super secret swag. Can you just shoot Angela an email, Mike, so, so that she has your mailing address because I don't think we kept it on file. But you're going to be one of those special people, along with Alan, who gets to know what our new super secret swag is. Okay. And then did I see another question, Angela. Oh, yes, Varan, in that video, you need an ISBN to submit the application. Are you talking about submitting the application to the Library of Congress? If so, yes. And you say you can't get one until you publish with Amazon. I believe that you will need to get your own ISBN because when you go through Amazon, Amazon is the publisher. And so Amazon, you. I don't think you can actually submit to the Library of Congress if Amazon is your publisher. I am not certain on that. Again, this is something that we don't do with our clients. Our clients all pay for and get their own ISBN so they don't run into this situation and a lot of the other little funky situations that can come up when it's not your ISBN. And so but yes, in order to submit to the Library of Congress, you do need to have your ISBN and you can't be published yet. And so if you've already published with Amazon, you will not be able to submit. So I think that right there is the reason that you would need to go get your ISBN first from Bowker. B O W K E R. If you are in the States, in Canada, you can get them free. In other countries you can use Bowker, but I think some other countries have other ways to get your ISBN as well. But you do need that ISBN first and you can't be published before you submit to the Library of Congress. Okay. Was there any other questions, Angela? I'm not seeing. Oh, question three. I do see another one. Sea Woman, Creative Media. What are you. What about getting your books into libraries outside of your country? I mean, again, I can only really speak to North America. Our experience, and my personal experience has only been in Canada and the us. It is, it is the same process in Canada and the U.S. but that doesn't mean it's the same process in all the places. But I think, you know, WorldCat is the world listing. It's a world catalog. So there is something to be said for that part of it. I believe that most libraries are membership based, so getting members to request them. But I mean, we're North American book marketing. Like that's what we focus on. And so that's where I know Joanna Penn probably she has the Creative Pen. It's a great podcast, a great blog. She probably has some great information. She's UK based. She probably has some great information on more international libraries because she does a ton of stuff all across Europe as well as in the uk. All right, so I'm checking out your tips because I'm going to pick a tip to get one of these T shirts today. So let's see. We have. Oh, we've got somebody from Barbados. Oh, that was C. Women Creative. That's awesome. Welcome. Okay. Mindful Eats says the. Oh, so Soft Journal is gorgeous. If anyone who won and doesn't know what to choose. Okay. My favorite tip of the day is about having friends and family ask to get your book into the local library. So, yeah, that's a great tip. Make sure they're members of the library, because that's the only way that it's really going to matter. But yes, any family or friends that are members of their local library, get them to request it. That's awesome. Lucretia says Amazon, KDP and POD gives you the choice of using your ISBN or theirs. Yes. And so I don't. I think you're adding into maybe something else that was said. But the Amazon ISBN is something you choose to do. It's free. It has the benefit of being free. It has the drawback of limiting other things. Like bookstores won't buy your book even though you put it into global distribution. They still won't buy your book because it's published by Amazon. And it will limit you in other ways as well, which we've talked about before on here. My favorite tip is checking the library programs and seeing if you can offer something related to that program or to a theme that they have. That's a good one. Let's see. Favorite tip. Friends and family can make the requests. Yes. Joanna has put some stuff about UK libraries. Or try the Self Publishing show on YouTube. They've also talked about that. All right, so you guys, that. Is that all the tips? I don't. Oh, there we go. There's another one. Look at library programs to see what they offer. The steps in order of Library of Congress, Congress to WorldCat was so valuable. Okay, so let's see. My books are in libraries. So, Mojo, you found your books and they're listed. Yay. Congratulations. And Matt learned how to follow the library's programming for events. Marla learned about LCCNs. Yay. You guys took away a lot of stuff here today. So I am going to. I liked the. Where is it here. Gotta find who said it. Yeah, I like Mindful Eats. So your favorite tip is checking the library programs to see if you can offer something related to that program. So, yay. Congratulations. So I think I have. I know I have a small. I'm wearing a medium, and so I have a small and I have a large and I think I might have a medium in red. So this shirt comes in red and it comes in black. So if you want to just let me know what size, unless you have a strong color preference. And email Angela. But I will, I will be the one mailing it to you because I have these samples. Angela doesn't have these ones. I do. But Mindful Eats, congratulations and thanks for being here. You are the proud winner of this pre sample or whatever you want to call it. Super limited edition. Hashtag no boring books swag. Okay, so yeah, email Angela@AngelaokLaunchers.com let her know your mailing address and I'll hook you up. All right, thanks everybody for being here today. Two things really quick. We are doing a deep dive on. Let's see, where's my date here? October. I had October 23rd. So we're doing a deep dive on October 23rd. And this is going to be a super special by your request, a deep dive. So in May, we did a deep dive where we featured some of our authors. This is going to be that. This time we're changing up a little bit because we're inviting past, present and future authors. So book launchers, past authors, they're present, so they're just about to launch. And a couple, or at least one that is still in the process of finishing up their book. And we're asking them their biggest surprises, their biggest lessons, any tips, and you guys can ask them questions, too. So that's happening October 23rd at 10aM Pacific. It's by Zoom, so it might be on YouTube later as a replay. If everyone that participates is comfortable with me posting it, I will do that, but I will get their permission before I post it. And so you want to be live just in case so that you can catch all the fun. To get on that, you'll need to be on the launch letter. So you have to subscribe to book launchers.com One of our newsletters or our newsletter that you can get to@book launchers.com to get the Zoom link to participate in that deep dive on October 23rd. And we'll be back here doing another live. I believe it's October 19th, but I'll double check that date for you right now, too. Yes, we'll be back here October 19th, so until then, we will be in touch in the YouTube comments. But thank you so much for being here today. It was a blast as always to hang out with you and congratulations to all the winners of the new Super Secret Swag and the limited edition T shirt. Bye, guys.
