Do you ever feel like you're walking a tightrope between teasing your book content and spoiling it all, making it so nobody buys it? Well, grab your balance pole because this video is going to help you master that high wire act of book promotion. That's right. If you want to market your book with video, this video is for you. Hey there. I'm Julia the Book Broad, founder of Book Launchers. Today we're answering the million dollar, maybe multi million dollar question. How do you create video content that hooks readers without giving away the whole enchilada? Let's kick things off with a question that's hotter than my morning coffee, which I'm drinking in my hashtag noboringbooks mug. And you can win one of these beauties. Stay tuned and I'll tell you how. Now, what percentage of your book's content do you think you should share in video online? Drop your guess in the comments below. Now while you're doing that, I'll tell you that commenting on the videos the day they come out is exactly how you get entered to win some of our swag. So go ahead. Okay, so now here's the bad news. There is not one rule you have to follow on this. I'm going to say you can share as much as half or more of your book content in videos. But Julie, I hear you cry. Won't I be giving away my best stuff and they will skip my book as a result? Maybe. I'm sure some of you have chose not to buy my book, self publish and succeed, or self promote and succeed because you got the answer to your question here. But the converse is also true, right? I know for a fact that there are people who watched my YouTube video and then found out about my book and immediately went and bought the book as a result of the great content in the video. And some people consumed both happily and said it was great to have the review. So here's a couple of ways to think about this. My book Self Promote and Succeed was almost entirely written from video transcripts. That means that at some point, most of the content at least originated from a video. Now I mean, that book is 80,000 words. So do you know how many videos you'd have to watch to get all of that content? And do you know how disorganized that is to try and consume that book in segments of videos that are five to 12 minutes long? It is a totally different experience. So instead of worrying about giving away the best stuff, think of your content like a movie trailer. You want to show the explosions, the laughs, the tears. But you also want to leave them hungry for more. For example, Self Promote and Succeed has a section on making a great reader magnet to grow your author platform. I did a video on that exact topic. But when you have the reader magnet, you then need to know where to promote it, how to leverage it, and how to strategically fit this into your bigger picture plans and goals. The book covers all of that and in a sequential order. That makes sense. And if I was shooting a video about that, I would just say, okay, now you know what should be in your reader magnet? Get Self Promoted Succeed. So you know how to use this magnet to grow your platform and sell a lot more books. So go ahead, make a video or two or three for every single chapter in your book. And fear not, give them a look at your amazing story, your steps, your tips, and then tell them where to go for the rest of the, you know, samples work right? Otherwise Costco would have stopped giving us so many yummy bites years ago. Now let's talk about squeezing every drop of juice from your content lemon in 2025. It is all about multiplatform domination. Take one juicy tip from your book or even a larger section where it's steps or tips or a full on strategy and turn it into a live stream that you that you do on YouTube or whatever your favorite streaming platform is. And then take clips from that and turn them into snappy TikTok videos. If you do that, an insightful LinkedIn post with a video clip to supplement a visually stunning Instagram reel. And yes of course a YouTube video. A short one like this one. This LinkedIn post right here came from a video just as an example. Now let's bring in our robot overlords. I mean our AI assistants in 2025. AI is your marketing sidekick. Use tools like Capcut or Content Fries or your favorite splicer and slicer to take one piece of video and turn it into more. In fact, the tools are so great you don't even have to film your video. You can use these tools to take your content from your book and create a simple video. No face on camera needed. While I do recommend you put your face on video, you don't have to. And thanks to AI, you can create great video content without it. Here is a quick demo inside of a tool I use called Capcut. And honestly, this is a brutally boring example. I'm just trying to show you how simple it is. Here's just a simple example of creating a video with your book and not having to have your face on the video. Look how easy this is. But imagine you're going to spend 10 or 15 minutes and you have a few great images of your book in a few different settings, some music and some captions and. And voila. You can create an amazing video with very little work and not putting your face on. And this is taking content from your book, repurposing it and creating videos. Now think about how many of these kind of videos you can create from your book and never ever spoil the entire experience of reading your book. There's an import caption option, by the way, in capcut, so you can import tips straight from your book as you get to work. You might find that process more enjoyable than filming content. Me personally, I'd rather film content and then splice it up for reels and shorts afterwards. Everybody's different. That's why I give you options. But back to that question of how to use video to promote your book and how much is too much? Well, I don't think there's a limit. Use your best stuff, but always seed the rest. And where they can find it like this. There's an entire chapter in Self, promote and Succeed on marketing your book with YouTube and video, you can get that and more. And you know what? You don't even have to buy the book if you don't want to. You can download the audio version for free right here at self promote and succeed.com audio. You can still post reviews afterwards though, and I am so grateful for each and every review. Even though you got it for free, you can still post a review. Remember, with every video you produce to add value, create curiosity, and let them know that it all came from inside of your fabulous book. Make sure you have links to buy your book and if you want to help them buy it direct from you so you can get their contact information and make more from that sale. This video is for you. And if you want the video YouTube thinks you must see, well, that's here for you. Remember, your book is a treasure trove of content. Show off those gems and give them the map to find all the treasure inside your book. See you on the next video.
