How to Share the Read Sample and Look Inside of Your Book on Your Website or Newsletter

Julie Broad shows how to embed Amazon's Read Sample feature on your website or newsletter to let readers preview your book before buying. The feature works for ebooks, though mobile viewing has limits, and your opening pages and table of contents matter most for converting browsers into buyers.

Hey author, do you have your Read Sample set up on Amazon for buyers to check out? If you do or even if you don't, there's a really cool feature that you might not know about about how you can use that to embed in your newsletters on your website and so much more. So it's a must do. But don't fret, it's not that hard to do and this video is absolutely for you. Hey there. I'm Julie the Book Broad, founder of Book Launchers. We're your full service self publishing company. We have some add ons where we help people with websites and direct selling audiobooks, building a course from your book and a cool strategy author success coaching group. So if you're a nonfiction author, well we want to help you. And one thing I want every nonfiction author to make sure they've got set up on Amazon is that Look Inside feature on Amazon which is now called Read Sample on most of their platforms. Why did they change it to Read Sample? Well, I guess Look Inside was. I don't know. I have no idea why they changed it. They just like to make all our stuff out of date. So now we have new things to talk about. Anyway, if you don't know what the heck I'm talking about, let me show you. Look at this beautiful book for authors right here called Self Publish and Succeed. So nice. Underneath the COVID here you go, you see the audible sample and the read sample. So that little thing is really good for selling your book. It gives a potential reader a taste. Now note that on a mobile. So if you're checking this out on a mobile going, I don't see it. Well, the feature is only available for ebooks and it will show the look inside the book sticker instead. This feature is not available on mobile devices for print books. Again, why? I have no idea. Amazon always does things in their own special way. Not now. The Kindle Instant Book Preview and the sample feature show the same content. However, the way the content renders in Kindle Instant Book Preview varies slightly due to differences in technology. Don't worry about it. What you need to know is that you can embed this, this Kindle Instant Previews on the web or share a link through email, text or other apps. Anyone can start reading their free preview by clicking on the link and it has buy links in it. So they can then proceed to buy your book from that sample. Kind of cool. So to generate the code, you're going to visit Amazon. I'll put the link down below. You're going to start on this kdp.Amazon.com site, you're going to scroll down to the bottom of the page. Then you'll search for the book you want to share on the book's detailed page. Below the Offer display, select Share, then click the radio button to get a link or embed on your site. Copy that whether you're copying the URL or embedding the HTML code to share and paste it wherever you want to share on your site or blog or newsletter or text, readers will be able to preview the book in their web browser. I know you've already got the COVID of your book on your website, but do you have this kind of preview feature? That's pretty cool. And what if you send it in your emails or put it in your autoresponder even? It's just another way to hook readers in and sell your book. This also emphasizes the importance of those first 20 pages and having a killer table of contents for your book. If you don't see see this available for your book, you may just need to wait a few days because it does take a few days for the feature to display on Amazon. If you make updates to your book, it also takes a few days for those updates to actually appear in that sample from the KDP site. The timelines that you can expect are for paperback and hardcover 9 to 10 business days, for ebook 7 to 8 business days from the release date. Now it's time to make sure your chapter titles are so good that they sell your book in that preview with this video right here. Or you can get this one that YouTube recommends you watch next. Either way, click on over and say hi. When you do.
