COFFEE, YOGA and AWS | 100 Days of Code 5

Daniel Bourke documents days 17-20 of his coding challenge: building a Simpsons dialogue generator with an RNN, then wrestling with AWS to get a WordPress site live. He sets up a LEMP stack, attends a robotics meetup with Pepper the humanoid robot, and finally gets a functional backend running.

What's going on, y'all? Day 17 of the 100 Days of Code Challenge. It's May 29th, 2017. I just had a cold shower. I'm feeling alive. I'm really excited because look at this. Went to this awesome coffee store the other day and got some grounded coffee. Too bad this isn't smell cam. Smells incredible. I'm going to work out how to use this thing. Shouldn't be too hard. And try it out. I'll let you know how it goes. But what am I working on today? All about Udacity today. Deep learning. I've got a deep learning assignment. I've got to analyze 27 seasons of The Simpsons episodes and generate a new script, uh, based off the 27 seasons worth of scripts of a scene in Moe's Tavern. Using an RNN, so recurrent neural network. So that's going to be my task for today, and I'll, I'll chat to you soon. So we've got 30 grams of this in here, a little bit of hot water, stirred it up, and then added more hot water, stirred it up again, and now we're going to let it sit for about 3 minutes. See what it turns out like. All right, moment of truth. We're plunging down to the bottom. It's probably too hot to drink right now. Too hot to get a proper taste. Be back in a second. Alrighty, so I've got my favorite, one of my favorite combinations in the whole world right now. Sparkling water, black coffee. It's been cooling for a few minutes, so let's see how I did. I'll rate that GAF, aka good as. And of course, sparkling water in between each sip. I find it cleanses the palate so that every time you sip the coffee, you get the full flavor, as a true coffee snob would say. But here's what I'm up to today. Going to be working on deep learning Nanodegree TV script generation. Got the standing desk on. I try to do 25 minutes of standing up and then 25 minutes sitting down and try to interchange throughout the day. I'm going to be working on this for at least 2 to 3 hours and see how far I get. Check out how many tabs I got open right now. Plus the Slack channel. Ugh. Woo! Day 19. What's going on? It is 12:30 lunchtime where I am, 12:30 PM. I'm still in my pajamas as you can see. Because I've been spending the last, I don't know, let's say 3 or 4 hours researching AWS WordPress hosting. Look how many tabs I got open. I've been trying to find a way to set up Amazon web hosting to host a WordPress website that I'm looking at building, and all the guides I found are sort of very complex, including the AWS guide that it has. It's for Amazon has for its own services. So I'm trying to get my head all around it. I'm completely new to this, this hosting sort of thing, but I will get there. I need to have a break because I'm just getting nowhere. I'm digging deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole. After I come back from the break, I'm just going to start building something and see, see what happens. See if I can get this site up and running. Um, but yeah, that's my main goal for today to get this site up and running so I can start building it. And I want to get the hosting down pat so I don't have to worry about that in the future. As long as the hosting's all good, then I think the rest should come. I don't know, set up a stable— my way of thinking is set up a stable foundation and then build upon that. Just keep building and breaking stuff, like Facebook's motto, right? Move fast and break stuff. Set a few goals for today, right? I've already done that. It was supposed to be about a startup venture application, but I read the T's and C's wrong for this. It said price. Not prize. I thought there was a prize for it rather than a price. So, I completely stuffed up there. I thought I was— I had an opportunity to win some money and a trip, but the prize I was reading was actually price. So, one single letter almost cost me a bunch of hours on an application. That would have been funny. I want to also do a video later today about what is machine learning and a podcast and upload some more of my YouTube channel. And yeah, Get Any Gym Online, which is the website I want to start building, which hopefully will allow access to any fitness facility around the world one day. But we'll see how we go. So that's what I'm going to be working on for after I, after I eat something and for the next couple hours, and we'll check back in once I've made some progress. Hopefully I've made some progress in a few hours. So this is about as far as I got. Setting up the Amazon Web Services server. I managed to get, uh, NGINX. I'm not sure how to pronounce that. Managed to get an NGINX server running, uh, as opposed to Apache. I'm trying to run an LEMP stack, whichever that means. I'm not entirely sure yet. I think it's Linux, NGINX, MySQL, and PHP. Going for an Amazon web server to host a WordPress site. I haven't been able to fully get it yet. I've been doing it for about, I don't know, 3 and a bit hours or so. I can't remember how long. Did— had 40+ tabs open at one stage. I've got a whole bunch of notes taken here on my computer about how to get it set up. I'm going to take a break. I'm going to go to the doctor's and then I'm going to a robotics meeting at a university near me later this evening. So I'm really excited for that. It's I don't actually know what it's going to be about, but there's— I think there's going to be Pepper the robot there. You can, you can probably check that out somewhere, somewhere online. It's one of the most advanced robots in the world at the moment. And I'm really interested at the— in terms of machine learning, robotics, and AI right now. So, I'm going to go find out more information, see if— I think my brother's coming along as well, and we're going to see if we can get on some sort of robotics team and maybe build something. Who knows? But this will be unticked for today. So if I don't record later tonight, I'll catch you tomorrow, but if I do, I'll tell you how the robotics meeting went. Check out who I got to meet tonight. It's Pepper the robot. It's a humanoid type robot. It's about this tall, and it's kind of like interacting with a 10-year-old child. And it's made by a Japanese robotics company called SoftBank, I believe. And they've, they've come to Brisbane. They're setting up an office in Brisbane. And they're a massive investment company. They've got shares and everything and whatnot. And so, I went to an event with my little brother to see, see what's going on. And it's actually really cool. This robot, you can program it to do different things and there's openings for 10 teams to get $15,000 worth of funding to build something with it. And so it was really cool, like, to try and think of ideas of what I could do with this. Applications open June 5th. Uh, thinking about applying, but wondering whether it's— whether applying to that will distract me from other things that I want to do. But who knows, if I end up doing it, I'll, I'll hit you guys up. But tomorrow I'm going to get back into trying to get this backend server up and running with Amazon AWS and LEMP stack and whatnot. But hopefully make a bit more progress than I did today. I'll catch you tomorrow. Hello everyone. So we're at the 31st of May, so the last day of May, last day of Meat Free May. I screwed up a couple of days ago. There was pizza available at my friend's house and I had some meat, but oh well. It is day 20 of the 100 Days of Code series. I've got a goal today to get the AnyGym server online, update the Medium series. I'm going to do a podcast today on machine learning and fix up one of my YouTube covers. I want to do 8 Pomodoros. Here's the things I'm trying to say yes to and no to everything else. I got my little brother here. Wham! We're going to do some yoga this morning. I do the yoga sessions just pretty much in my room. I've got this video on YouTube, Yoga with Adriene. It's a 20-minute session. It's just going to be a good way to wake up. We woke up probably, what, half an hour ago? Today, Wam's spending the day with me. We're gonna do some school— do some of his schoolwork and assignments and stuff like that, but we'll see you next clip.
Getting down to the ground, and right away, just set yourself up for greatness here. So we have a pretty swift practice, but we're going to be— it's just naturally big and buoyant and beautiful. They're nice and stacked in the bones. When you're ready, yeah. You come to do some yoga?
Look at her! Fuck! Boy, you can't do that one. Extraterrestrial human being here. We can't do that pose yet, but we'll try the best with our other ones. Fin. So had a fair few distractions during that session. How'd you go, Wham? Pretty good. Kevin gave me the motivation. Thanks, Kevin. Seven. Okay, Kevin is our dog and her name is Seven. We didn't name her that. The dad started vacuuming while we were doing yoga, so not the most peaceful session, but still good to get active in the morning. My hips are really tight, my lower back's really tight. Today on the channel we have yoga. Check out more from Yoga with Adriene if you want to do I don't know, free yoga sessions. But I'm gonna go have a cold shower, get into some study, and I'll check back in with you guys soon once I've made some progress in hopefully getting this web server up and running. Check this out, 3:30 PM, hit my domain. We made it, baby! After about 5 to 6 hours of work, I've managed to set up a complete backend server for my site. And right now it hosts nothing but a simple HTML file, but the server is up and running on AWS using— no, Ubuntu, Nginx, MySQL, and PHP, otherwise known as a LEMP stack. My brain is fried. I need to have a break. I haven't eaten. It's like 3:30 PM. I haven't eaten all day. But the server is up and running. I've got to work out how to now get some WordPress files in there so I can have something that looks a bit nicer than just a HTML site, and then something that actually functions as a website rather than just being some static test. So that'll be my next project. I don't know if I'll be able to do it today, but I will try, and if I do, I'll let you know. But I'm going to get some food. It's official! We got it online. Crossing that out. Now have a look at this. This is what I've been working on. 20 individual sessions, a total of 8 hours 20 minutes. But as you'll see, the time is 10:12 PM. I forgot to track the last few. So it probably took me about 10 hours to get it fully up and running. I show you on AnyGym, useanygym.com on the PC, on the Mac, sorry. But I'm logged in as WordPress admin, so you'll only see the admin side. But if you go to any other device where I'm not an admin, you see this construction page, under construction, using the under construction plugin, at UseAnyGym.com. So this is my little project I'm working on. Not sure what the overall goal will be, but it's just something I wanted to work on. I set up the complete backend server using an AWS micro instance as well as an Ubuntu server with NGINX and a whole bunch of other stuff. And now I'm sort of using a WordPress theme to build the rest of it, but it's all running for free, can take up to 11 million hits per day, supposedly. I haven't tested that, that's just what I saw on the guide that I, I sort of used. And I used a whole bunch of sites, so I might eventually make a video of how to do it in the future if people want it. But I went through a whole bunch of guides, got a free, free server built by myself, free SSL, and all I paid for was the domain name. That's it. And it's going to be free for at least the next year because of Amazon's free tier usage. But that's going to be it for this, this video. I finally got it up and running. useanygym.com. Check it out. Stay tuned. I'm going to keep building it over the next few weeks and see where it goes. But whatever progress I make, I'll try and share with you guys. I've got to go tomorrow, do some of my deep learning project. I'll film a bit of that if I can and probably try and catch up on my machine learning projects. As well as, I've got a newsletter coming out tomorrow as well. So, sign up. It comes out the first of every month. It's called A Few Cool Things. It's on my website, MrDeBurke.com. A whole bunch of stuff relating to fitness, nutrition, artificial intelligence, technology. And I limit it to about 5 to 6 things. So, it doesn't waste too much of your time. But thank you so much for watching. We'll see you in the next episode. Have an awesome day.
