Training TWO Weeks Out From Spartan Race

Daniel Bourke tests a CamelBak hydration pack two weeks before a Spartan Ultra 50K, runs a high-intensity circuit with commando crawls and burpees, then does a 6 km run. His mom makes a recovery meal with chicken, broccoli, rice, and avocado.

Friday night, 2 weeks out from Spartan Race. Excited, Zeno? Yeah. How you feeling? Good. Oh, check this out. Only took me like half an hour at the store. I'll throw a clip in here so you can see me shopping for hydration packs for the Spartan Race. So many decisions though. Look at this, all of these are different options. I don't know what's the difference here between this is $39 and this one down here is $240. So I'm not entirely sure what the difference is here. I think we need some space. I think I'm going to go for a 2 to 2.5 liter, liter one, or 3 liter maybe. But I would like some space in there to put some like salt tablets and Clif Bars and little snacks that we can have. We ended up getting the Camelbak 2.5 liter, nice and blacked out. It's got a little pouch here we can put some snacks and some goodies in there for, for the race. But yeah, this bad boy is going to be coming along with me for the 50K and In the next couple training sessions, I'm gonna be wearing it so I get used to having it on whilst running and whilst exercising and whatnot, so I don't get to the race and just be like, "What's going on?" But today, we have 5 rounds of a 3-minute run. It's gonna be quite quick. And then into a 30-meter commando crawl. He got some stitches happening here, so he's not gonna be able to do anything with his hands. But 3-minute run, 30-meter commando crawl, 2-minute run, 20 squats, 1-minute run, 10 burpees, 1 minute rest, 5 rounds. Let's do it! Yeah, Zeno, what's your running tactic, mate? I just wanna chin up, open up the jugular as much as possible. Maximum airflow. Why do you like opening up the jugular? Just so I can suck in the big ones. No restrictions. Seems like a good tactic, mate. All right, run's finished. We've got 30-meter commando crawl. To me, 30 meters. I haven't really got a ruler, so it's going to be up and back here. Good luck to the elbows. It's like you're having a waterfall on your back. Really weird sensation. I got run again. Bodyweight squats, 20 reps. 10 burpees. That's one round. Now one minute rest. We do it 4 more times. I just realized I have this on. I went to go get a drink of water from my water bottle, but this works surprisingly well. Last set done. I got a few more runs. All done, circuit. Now we got a 6K run. See you at home. Run on the other side of the road. Running on the wrong side of the road, busting out the KMs. This is best of mine. Stroked on mud. How's your burrito, boys? It's good. Give on, mate. She good? Give on. No idea here nor there. Good reversing, mate. Cheers, been practicing. 2 weeks out, Spartan Ultra. This ain't a game, boys. Who am I kidding? Yeah, it is. Friday night on the KMs. Oh yeah, first time running with the Camelbak. It's like a waterbed on your back, just swaying back and forth. But it's good to have a sip of water here and there. Let's eat, eh? Just finished the run, 6 kilometers after the workout we just did, and I got home and I didn't have to cook. My beautiful mother— so shout out to Mom, thank you Mom— she's cooked dinner for me. We'll cook dinner for all the family. She's amazing, she's a saint. And check out this awesome meal. 300, 400 grams of chicken breast, some broccoli, some rice in there, and then we got somewhere over here a whole avocado sprinkled around here on a bedrock of greens, a little bit of capsicum, a little bit of red onion, some icy water here, and then of course a sprinkle of salt and pepper all over the top to replenish those electrolytes. I promised to take Zena for a glass of water, so let's see what he's up to. How you feeling, bro? Here's your water, man. What are you eating here? What is that? It's just an al foil tin of rice and chicken. Potato and bread. Oh yeah! There's Josh the cameraman. What's going on, brother? How you feeling? Yeah, a bit at the moment. Why? Did a 5K run and then went to gym, trained some shoulders. A bit interesting. And what do you— what's the plan for tonight, boys? If the servers work. They're trying to update. Servers have been down for what, 24 hours? Yeah, yeah, mate. Alright, let's sign this out. 2 weeks out from Spartan Race. Xeno, you keen? Oh yeah. Oh yeah, we're gonna get this belt buckle. Oh yeah. Josh, how about you? You coming along? You gonna film? Definitely not. I don't want film. You're not gonna sit there for 10 hours while we run? Yeah, no, I'm tapping out. We'll catch you next week. Peace. Peace, y'all. No, that's not how it ends. Oh, see you next week.
