In this informal product demo, brothers Josh and Daniel introduce Nutrify, a mobile app that uses computer‑vision AI to identify foods from a phone camera, much like Shazam identifies music. Built with iOS Core ML and a TensorFlow backend running on a single‑GPU “Denti” workstation, the app currently recognizes 420 foods across 22 categories, each represented by custom icons. Users point their camera at a dish, receive a nutrition summary, storage tips, and can save the entry to a visual food diary called the Nutridex, which tracks personal consumption trends. The demo walks through a sample meal (scrambled eggs, iced coffee, chicken curry with rice), shows the stats tab, and highlights the app’s gamified, whole‑food focus (as opposed to barcode scanners like Yuka). The brothers discuss the small Brisbane‑based, part‑time team, their development roles, the app’s free tier and premium upgrade, and invite users to download Nutrify, report bugs, and suggest new foods to expand the Nutridex.

Cilantro.
Coriander, also known as cilantro, is low in calories with only 29 calories per 100-gram serving. It's rich in vitamin K. I want to combine artificial intelligence with my knowledge of health and fitness and help the world move more and eat better. Josh has been learning iOS— what is it, Core ML? Because we want to, want to build a project to do with nutrition education and use, use an iPhone with Core ML and whatnot using TensorFlow backend. Not banana! Daniel. 99 points. 99 points. Into building my startup. It's gonna be Nutrify. I wanna get into nutrition education, use technology, how to do that. But I'm not exactly sure how yet.
Hey guys, how we doing? I've been working on an application that I'm gonna call 3D Shooter because it's like a 3D augmented reality shooter game. Yeah, for your phone, for iPhone. It's pretty cool.
Here at NutraMe, we operate at the center of this very poorly drawn Venn diagram.
So this better work.
Oh, it lights up! But what happens if someone uploads a photo of something that's not food? Oh my gosh, we totally forgot about images that aren't food. What's it going to do? It's predicting that this truck is a hamburger. That's not a very good user experience, is it? We're brothers, we live in Australia, and we're the co-founders of Nutrify. We're brothers, we live in Australia, and we're the co-founders of Nutrify.
What is Nutrify? Nutrify is a fun, gamified way to learn and explore more about food.
Here it is, Nutrify version 1.0.
December 1, 9:25.
2023.
Hit it.
Oh, make available for purchase in 175 countries. Maybe that's too many. We'll see how it goes.
Release this version. It is ready for sale.
What? What is that?
Ready for sale? Is there a name?
Hello! You wouldn't believe it, but Banana Not Banana is much better.
And we're still using Denti, the deep learning PC from 2020. One GPU. Right now, it's training the latest Food Vision model. Sadly, it won't let you take photos of trucks, no matter how cool they look. It's a food app. Nutrify's philosophy is simple: make learning about food fun. For version 1.0, There are 420 different foods to identify, each with a beautifully custom-designed icon across 22 different food categories. Now, if you've played Pokémon before, you know that the Pokédex identifies one Pokémon at a time, and it's the same with Nujify. One photo, one food. Let's go see how it works.
Nujify was made easy.
Easy to use.
Simply point your camera at some food, take a photo.
Because in the modern world, it's not enough to do the thing, you need to take a photo of it.
That's where the magic begins.
Scroll down, you get about, nutrition summary, detailed nutrition information, and storage instructions. And if you're happy with the prediction, you can save it to your visual food diary. A great place to reflect on what you've eaten. What do you got there, Josh?
Oh, this morning scrambled eggs. Ice coffee, and last night's chicken curry and white rice.
Delicious! Nutrify focuses on whole foods rather than foods in packaging or scanning barcodes. For barcodes, we recommend the app Yuka.
We also focus on food categories rather than calories, because if you're eating whole foods, moving often, sleeping well, you don't need to count calories or scan barcodes.
Hey Josh, what's your Nutridex at?
My Nutridex is at, uh, 174.
How about you?
356. Do you have Danish?
Yeah, I had one the other day. We're at a bakery at Mount Tamborine. Rinklet. I'm missing Danish. Not anymore. All right, I'll be right back. Where'd you go?
I went to the bakery.
What'd you get?
You'll see.
Is that a Danish?
Yeah.
Did you get me one?
No, you said you already got it. Because the first time you take a photo of food with Nutrify, it gets added to your Nutridex.
The Nutridex is a fun way to learn about foods you're familiar with or reason to go out and try foods you've never had before. Josh, you're going to give me A bite of that Danish? No.
You already had it.
Josh.
It's my Danish.
Can you give me some of that? Can you give me some of that Danish? Josh! Josh! Nutrify is not responsible for any damages caused by food chasing or food chasers and encourages respectful eating at all times.
Give me that! Give me that!
After you've used Nutrify for a while and you go to the stats tab, you'll notice a few trends have built up over time. Like trying to eat more fruit?
Let the stats be the proof.
Blueberries! That's 994 fruits for me. Trying to eat more vegetables?
Is that a raw onion?
Hey, you want some?
Nah, I'm good.
Let the stats be the proof. We're a small team based in Brisbane, Australia, working part-time in a converted lounge room. Josh sits over there and he does the iOS and database stuff.
And Daniel sits over there and I'm still yet to figure out what he actually does. Currently Nutrify can only service 420 foods—
only—
that are available to us. But that's where you come in. So if there's foods that Nutrify doesn't cater to, we'd love to hear about it and we can add them to the Nutridex.
And of course, our computer vision models aren't perfect and Nutrify will make mistakes, but those mistakes are easy to correct.
Nutrify was made with my mum in mind. If she can use it, anyone can use it.
Here we go. Did it work?
Yes!
Oh, you've reached the free tier. You're going to have to upgrade, Mum. Is that a trick? There you go, premium.
How do I cancel that? It worked.
We did it.
It all worked.
It all worked.
Oh, recording through neutral.
First customer, thank you. And, uh, yeah, I might get a haircut too. All right, now what do we do? Go get some food.
Yeah, use the app, use the app.
See if it's live. Go download Nudgefy on the App Store, uh, try it out, and if it goes wrong, let us know so we can make it better.
Yeah.
Well done, brother.
Yeah, send through some tickets if it's bugged or not working, because yeah, give me something to do.
It's our first time. Yeah, this is our first time publishing an app together, so we're really excited. Yeah, go learn about some food, and hopefully Nichefy makes it fun.
