What gear should you bring on Spartan Race? + Final Training Session

Daniel Bourke does his final training session three days before a Spartan Race: a circuit of hill runs, farmer's walks, bear crawls, and burpees in three rounds. Then he packs everything he'll need, from Clif Bars and electrolyte tablets to a head torch and glow sticks, and talks through the 50 km race ahead with friends.

What's going on, guys? We're 3 days out from Spartan Race, and this is one of my last training sessions today, and I'm taking these last 3 days a little bit easier than what I have for the past 45 days or so of training because I want my body to be recovered, ready, primed, ready to go on Saturday morning. Big, big, big start. It's at 6:30 AM, so I got the Spartan t-shirt on today. Finisher. This is from the Spartan Race I did last time, which was only 16 kilometers. But today's workout, we have 3 to 5 rounds. We're doing 3. Of 1-minute hill run, 1-minute bucket carry, but we're subbing out the bucket carry for farmer's walks, which I'll show you on screen. We have another 1-minute hill run, 1-minute bear crawl, 1-minute hill run, 1-minute burpees, and then we rest for 1 minute. So it's 6 rounds of no rest. So 6 minutes of exercise, no rest, 1-minute rest, and we do that for 3 total rounds of that circuit. Let's do it. Another 1-minute hill run. Treadmill takes a while to come up, so I don't start the timer until the settings are on. I'm giving that in. I push go on that treadmill there to get it to go back to the flat incline. If the treadmill is incline, it won't start. And my cameraman Billsy, how you going, bro? What's up, yo? Nearly did an ankle there, nearly went flying. And we got bear crawl, down on all fours, we go same knee, same elbow. Get our final hit hill run. If you've got a real hill, that's even better. These treadmills experience some serious lag. Starting up. Last one, 1-minute burpees. It's probably the hardest one. See if we can get 15. Managed to bust out 18. Gotta get real, real comfortable with burpees. If you fail an exercise in the Spartan Race, 30 burpees is punishment. We're gonna repeat what we just did for 3 times and then probably do some stretching afterwards. Nice and quick, easy— well, not so easy, but shorter training session than what I'll be doing. As I said, I wanna make sure my body's recovered over the next couple of days so I can really perform on Saturday. How'd you go, bro? Yeah, good. Um, didn't really get as much done as I'd like, but it was a good workout. Good upper body pump. There wasn't many people at gym because it's a public holiday where we live, um, so Anzac Day. Shout out to the Anzacs. But that's a good thing, get in the gym nice and empty, get the work done. Probably got sweat dripping down my face. Finish off with a 10-minute stretching session, just a few light stretches to warm down. Now I've got to go home, do up a shopping list for food and whatever items I need for the race. I'll fill you in once I figure out what I have to to get. Was that, mate? Oh, watch that video. And you recording me? What up, vlog? One day— oh, how many days out? Two days, mate. It's on the board. Look at all this gear we got. You need Clif Bars? We got Clif Bars. You need blocks? Chewy blocks? We got blocks. Apricots, bulk water. We got GoPro because we're gonna bring you on tour. Got the GoPro kit from Apple. Yeah, burgers. Head torch, gonna put that on so we, so we can see in the dark. Hopefully it doesn't get too dark. We got some leftover nachos. Panadol. Yeah, leftover nachos, gonna bring that. Probably. And electrolyte tablets. What's the last thing? Glow sticks. And we got my boy here. And we got burgers. He got the burgers. Right, 2 days out for the Spartan Race. Getting real keen. Josh, you gonna drive us down there, bro? Because we got burgers. You got the drone man here. The drone man. Zef, how keen are you? Very keen. You putting in the KMs? Putting in big KMs. We're gonna be putting in the most KMs. We're gonna be putting in 50 KMs to be quite exact. All of them. All of the KMs. All of them. Alright, Rosie's coming around tomorrow night and then we'll, uh, yeah, it'll be game day. Game day, baby. We've got to get up real early, but you'll see it anyway. Here's a shot of what we actually got: bananas, Clif Bars, Blue Dinosaur Bars, which are just pretty much paleo bars, heaps of energy gels, GoPro, sunscreen, peanut butter, just all the stuff that we can eat on the race and replenish our energy levels really quickly. How are you, brother? For Sparta! What's that whiteboard say, man? That's the garden, dig it. No, I mean the top line. What's that say? One day till Spartan. Till Spartan. I'll let you get to sleep, cuz. Later, bro. I'll turn the light out for you. Look at this setup. Rose wants carpet. I should really be in bed myself. Got all this gear spread out, bags of stuff, a heap of water, jugs, drones ready. You're right, brother. Got like 3 changes of clothes ready for Sparta. Spartans, what is your profession?
