This is a YouTube video titled "Brian Skrobonja's Start as a Financial Advisor" containing a personal narrative from Brian Skrobonja, recorded in 2011. In this monologue, Brian reflects on his nearly two decades of experience in the financial advisory business, his motivations for starting his own practice in 1993, and the meaningful relationships he has built with his clients over the years. The content focuses on his passion for helping clients manage their finances and the personal fulfillment he derives from his work.
I entered the business nearly two decades ago, working with a small tax practice in Festus, Missouri. I worked with clients, helping them to reduce taxes and understand various financial concepts. This experience motivated me to go out on my own and put my name on the door. So, starting from scratch with no clients, I opened for business in 1993 with a few simple ideas and a desire to help people keep as much of their money as possible. It's an amazing feeling to me today when I'm sitting across the table with clients who I've been working with for years and see the progress they made in their lives. My clients really have become friends who we share family stories of our kids, talk politics, discuss very personal issues about life in general, all while helping them make important decisions about their money. For me, working with people and providing them with the information and ideas they can use to help maximize the use of their money is very gratifying. I've also had the humbling experience of counseling clients who are preparing for the last days of life to help them make sure their family is taken care of. These experiences have made me realize over the years how important my work really is. So for me, helping people in the area of financial planning is a deep rooted passion I have and is what drives me each and every day.
