Six Keys to Becoming a Great Leader Leaders think and talk about solutions. Followers think and talk about the problems. Brian Tracy Leadership is one of the most influential factors for business and personal success. Great leaders have the ability to rally those around them to higher levels of performance while also holding themselves to the highest standards. At its most basic form, leadership is the ability to navigate challenges and achieve results. Many people believe that great leaders are born. However, that is not true. By doing the right things and taking the right steps consistently, anyone can improve their leadership skills and become a great leader. With that in mind, Here are the six keys anyone can use to become a great leader. 1. Never Limit yout Beliefs. You become what you believe. If you believe you can, you will. If if you believe you cannot, you will not. Your mind will do exactly what you allow it to do, so allow it to do the best. You are the only person responsible for your thoughts and the limits you place on yourself or the success you will be able to achieve. So aim high and remove your limitations to achieve personal and professional success. Number two Stop Making Excuses when something happens, it may not always be your fault, but but you should view it as your responsibility to help take care of to become a great leader, it is important to accept complete responsibility for yourself, your actions, your abilities and your life. This is called radical responsibility and it helps you take ownership and remove excuses that stand in the way of you becoming the leader you want to be. Stop blaming external factors, especially the ones you cannot control, and accept that it is up to you to find solutions. And no matter what, radical responsibility also means taking on complete ownership of what you do control, owning up to your mistakes and decisions, and adjusting course as necessary. Always seek New Opportunities to grow. Great leaders do not settle for mediocrity. They are not happy with the status quo or doing enough just to get by. Great leaders know that growth and progress do not happen without discomfort and that is why they are always pushing themselves out of their comfort zone. To become a great leader, you must do the same thing. Push yourself to learn new skills and knowledge. Ask hard questions, meet new people and get comfortable being uncomfortable. This is what distinguishes great leaders from followers. Followers wait until the path has been cleared. Leaders create the path, accept failure and learn from it. Failure in life is inevitable. The most outstanding leaders in history have all failed. Many even experienced major defeats and crushing blows. But what separates them from the pack is that they learned from and overcame these failures in order to push forward with a clear mind and plan. Great leaders identify and accept their shortcomings and setbacks and use them as learning opportunities to improve for the future. The same will happen to you. You will fail. But if you accept your failures and use them as learning opportunities, you too will be on a path to success walked by the greatest leaders. Lead by Example People respect leaders who follow through on what they say they will do. If you want to be a great leader, you cannot expect others to do something you yourself would not do. More importantly, people respect leaders who take initiative and do the things they expect of others. To become a great leader, you must roll up your sleeves and follow through on doing those things. By doing so, you'll gain the respect of the people you are leading. They will see that you not only talk the talk, but you walk the walk. Strive for Efficiency and Innovation Great leaders, in addition to leading by example, strive for efficiency and innovation. This means they look for the best solution in the fewest steps. They are able to look at the big picture, figure out where they want to be, and chart a direct path. They aim to find a faster, more cost effective and more ethical way to do something. If you want to become a great leader, you too will have to take these steps. This means planning and goal setting to have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish and how you can accomplish this. Becoming a great leader is more than just telling people what to do. It's about modeling these six key traits and showing the people you're leading that you're able to get results while taking responsibility for everything along the way. Becoming a great leader takes dedicated work and time though. So start trying to implement these keys to successful leadership into your life today. Now.
